I'm entering a Chili Cookoff!

Just wanted to share that I will be entering a chili cookoff tomorrow. I am using a modified version of CL's All American Chili. This cook off is co-sponsered by Red Gold and it is very small but it will be fun. Wish me luck!

I used to enter chili contests - they are so much fun. I worked for a district court judge and one year when he was campaigning we entered several chili contests. They were sponsored by the International Chili Society and really had rules. Everything had to be uniform size - the judges would take a water glass and put it down in the chili and look to see what it looked like. Needless to say we never did win, but we had fun.

It was lots of fun. I did not win anything though. The winning recipe had corn, celery, and black olives in it and was thick with a layer of cheese and crushed tortilla chips on top. I thought it was more like a dip.

Anyway, the lady who organized the event told me she thought mine tasted best, but she was not one of the judges. And she told me this BEFORE she learned my DH was the gentleman taking pictures for the local newspaper:p

The ICS had very strong rules and the winner qualified to go one to another contest and eventually get to the Big Event in Texas. You couldnt have beans in it...I thought I would add a little flavor and I chopped up some cilantro. One of the judges said "Ugh, its got green things in it." Like it was bugs or comething!

Sorry to hear that you didn't win. But as long as you had fun that's what it is all about!!!! Goood for you for at least entering.
