A friend of a friend is going through another round of chemo for Hodgkin's disease and the doctor has recommended that he try a raw food diet at this point. My friend is trying to find some appealing and appetizing raw food recipes to make this a little easier for her friend. I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has any recipes or recommendations for where to look for good raw food diet recipes. I certainly appreciate any suggestions you can make.

A restaurant that I go to often is a raw food restaurant. Besides having great food, they also have a lot of literature and information about the raw food way of life and just food in general. Here is a link to the restaurants website, which also includes recommendations on books to read and other sites to visit.

I do not have any specific raw food recipe but I have been trying to incorporate more raw foods in my diet and in the process I have found that a great way to do this is using sprouted beans. It is super easy to sprout beans at home and they provide an excellent source of vitamins and protein (e.g., sprouted lentils). I try to have one raw meal daily, usually a big salad made of greens, sprouted beans, tons of veggies (e.g., grated carrots, grated beets, bell pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, etc.), fresh herbs (parsley, basil, chives, etc.) - all drizzled with some dressing and maybe sprinkled with nuts. This is quite filling and extremely nutritious - yummy too :)

Just curious: this thread is almost three years old - any particular reason for its resurgence?

I've been on a raw kick and did a search for any threads about raw foods.

i never did post this here, but did on a separate thread. misplaced my 3 copies of the recipe, looked here for it and saw this, so...
i made this again for today's breakfast, since our brunch isn't till 3pm. this should us us pretty well with maybe just a snack in between. it's also gluten-free, and we're getting into trying some of that to see how it effects the hubby-man's IBS.
if you haven't tried this, do. it's so tasty and easy. i just soak the raisins for an hour before bed and then refrigerate them and their soak water separately. the oatmeal soaks overnight, softening so that it is not hard at all, yet still has a slight chewiness. it's processed till smooth anyway.
we halve it, using one apple, one banana which each get half thrown in to be blitzed and half chopped to be thrown on top-- then we like a handful or so of berries or oranges.
you don't use sugar or milk, so it's vegan as well, and it's plenty moist and sweet, believe me.
My favorite energy breakfast:
Living Oatmeal (4 servings)
2 C oats groats (steel-cut oats, often called Irish oats-- such as McCann's) *we use Bob's Red Mill-- equally excellent, 2-3$ less!
soaked 8-12 hours in cool water, rinsed and drained
1 1/2 C raisins, soaked 1 hour in water to cover, save soak water
2 c chopped fresh fruit such as bananas, apples papayas
1 tsp ground cinnamon
In food processor, combine oats, raisins and their soak water, and process until almost smooth. Add 1 c chopped fruit and cinnamon. Pulse 30 seconds to blend.
Transfer to individual bowls, top with the remaining fresh fruit and extra cinnamon if desired.
***Mari's notes-- we love this! it needs no sweeteners or milk. Our favorite mixture is half a banana and half an apple blended in, the rest on top with the addition of strawberries or peaches. You can also add some raw almonds that have been soaked overnight like the oats, then rinsed and drained, though I like them best soaked for a half hour.
This recipe originally appeared in Vegetarian times, June 1998, the author is Renee Underkoffler.

Hi Blondette,
I have a very simple Raw Kale Salad on my blog that doesn't take a minute to make, and it is so very health supportive.
Here's the link:

I call it "Sorta Raw Kale Salad" but only b/c I toasted the macadamia nuts. You can leave them untoasted (just as good) and it's 100% raw.
My favorite raw book is "Living Cuisine" by Renee Loux Underkoffler.
My best to your friend...
