Here's the latest (http://www.boston.com/news/world/europe/articles/2005/03/21/parker_bowles_in_line_to_become_queen/) on Camilla being able to have the title of Queen once/if Charles becomes king. They'll actually need to pass legislation if she doesn't want to be queen.

God save us from that ever happening!

Why then was there such a to-do when the Duke of Windsor wanted to marry a divorcée? Seems to me to be a double standard as Ms Parker Bowles is divorced.

I found a clearer explanation at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morganatic_marriage) . Still think the whole thing is a load of rubbish!

There was an article in the paper about Edward's situation the other day. Here it is:

As for Edward and Wallis Simpson, most everyone accepts the romantic version that Edward abdicated in order to marry his true love because there were no other options. But there were. True, Simpson was twice divorced, and the Church of England would not sanction the marriage. But if Mrs. Simpson had been a more popular choice, there were ways around it.

In fact, Edward's advisers presented him with three options: marry her anyway, marry her but create a morganatic marriage, which would have kept Mrs. Simpson from ever becoming queen, or abdication.

Mrs. Simpson had an awful reputation both here and in England, and no one was exactly championing her cause. Knowing that, Edward chose to abdicate.

Decades later, Prince Charles faces a similar situation. He can remarry in the church because, although he is divorced, the church considers him a widower. Camilla Parker Bowles, his intended, can't because her ex remains alive. So Charles is going for a civil marriage and taking the second option that Edward refused, the morganatic marriage -- a German term for a marriage between people of unequal social rank that prevents the passage of the husband's titles and privileges to the wife and any children born of the marriage -- meaning Camilla will get a title but will never be queen.

Morganatic marriages are not recognized by British law...Charles was simply using a marketing technique to fool the public...Camilla isn't well liked by the British public either. Edward led pretty much the same lifestyle (dating married women) as Charles has done.

But she will according the article above and on the all-news radio station on the way home from work.

In fact, it seems harder for her NOT to be queen if and when Charles becomes king.
