View Full Version : Sephora lip gloss and cosmetics?

I've seen Sephora brand lip glosses and cosmetics ads in a few magazines lately and the products have all looked so good that I doublecheck to see the brand and it's always Sephora.

We have a couple stores in our area but I haven't had chance to make a special trip yet to check them out.

Does anyone use this brand? Their lip glosses looked especially appealing to me because I never wear lipstick (don't really like how it feels) but I'm looking for a gloss with a bit of color that's not too sticky.

Any particular product recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

TIA!

Loren

I love Sephora!!! I have used their lipsticks and lip gloss. Their lipsticks are somewhat "dry" feeling but they do stay on for a long time. The lip gloss I used came in a tube with a sponge tip applicator and it stayed on forever but was definitely sticky. They let you sample everything there so I would still go and try stuff on before you make any purchases.

Loren-

OMG! The excitment you have yet to experience! Sephora is the funnest store. It is like a candy store for women! You can try on everything (I can't explain why it is more fun than regular stores, it just is!) I think because every single color has a sample and the salespeople let you play.

I used to go to one during lunch hour, and I would come back to work, garishly painted. Glitter, etc!

So fun! Go- you won't regret it!

I have never seen a lip gloss that wasn't sticky to some degree, but I thought I'd put in a plug for my favorite lip gloss, Bare Escentuals, which Sephora carries:

I rarely wear make-up, and even when I do, I just don't care for lipstick. I do wear lip gloss everyday, because it's the least I can do for my bare face. :o

I own the BE lip gloss in Nude, Sheer Cherry, and another color that I think has been discontinued (it looks like the Sheer Violet but I don't think that's what it's actually called - it's old, one of the first BE things I picked up). Love them, love them, love them!! :D

Not a gloss, but I thougth I would throw in my recommendation of Burt's Beeswax tinted chapstick. My DD who can't stand any gloss, loves these because they give a little color and feel good.

Yes!! This is me!! ;) I'll have to find the Bare Essentials line!!Thanks Eva!

And Laura, tinted chapstick-like stuff would be nice too. I've never seen Burt's Bees stuff. Where would I find that?

I find the tinted chapstick at Whole Foods here and amazingly enough, Borders (but they don't always have the tinted versions).

Oh, definitely definitely go to Sephora. Sooooo much fun!

As for lip glosses that aren't really sticky, I actually really like the lip gloss duos made by Cargo (which are also sold at Sephora). Just go and have fun. Plus, the people who work there can usually help you find the right color and product for what you're looking for.

Bath & Body Works. Though I've tried the tinted lip balm from Burt's Bees and just a warning that the color on the lid can be wayyyyy off from the actual color. I bought a wine tinted one...that comes out bright old lady fuschia. Its been pretty much unused in the bottom of my purse ever since.

But I do heart Sephora and their lip glosses, they're great.

Loren, I think in our neck of the woods the Sephoras (and I don't know where they may be located other than the Burlington Mall) don't carry the Bare Essentuals line in the stores: You'd have to purchase online. I think you can get Burt's Bees on Drugstore.com. One thing about lip gloss....I like them too and have tried several different brands and many of them chap my lips something wicked. Guerlain in particular does a number on me. Anybody else have this issue?

They now carry Molton Brown!!!!! I had to restrain myself from throwing my arms around and bear hugging the saleswoman who pointed that out to me last weekend. :D

My favorite lip gloss is from Prescriptives. They aren't sticky and go on easy. I'm a beauty junkie and particulary like Bare Minerals, but the Prescriptives lip gloss is the only lip product that I have ever used up and/or ever purchased a second time.

Oh - that's too bad! I was looking forward to trying them before I bought. According to their website, Sephoras are in the Burlington Mall, the Prudential Center Mall and Chestnut Hill Mall (I think). There were only 3.

Chestnut Hill does not carry BE. Prudential does. I am not sure about Burlington, but you could call and ask.

Sephora is coming soon to Natick!

I am 99% sure that I saw BE last time I was at Sephora in the Burlington mall.

Several months ago I was at the Pru Sephora and they were renovating. I asked about BE and they said that although they did not have yet, after the renovation they would be carrying it. I don't think Burlington had BE, unless they've added it recently. I'd call 1st to be sure.

And BTW, I like Clnique's lip gloss http://www.clinique.com/templates/products/sp_shaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY4901&PRODUCT_ID=PROD727, although I haven't tried many of the others mentioned except Burt's Bees, which I did not care for (love their cuticle cream though).

Is Bare Minerals from Prescriptives?

I'm glad I started this thread! Sephora sounds like a really fun place and I have other options too for less sticky lip gloss!

Loren,

Bare Minerals/Escentuals are a separate line, not affiliated with Prescriptives or any other line.

Thanks Eva!! There must be a zillion kinds of lip gloss out there. It was just funny to me that of all the magazine ads I read while at the eye doctor's, the ones that looked the best to me ended up all being available at sephora.com.

Maybe I can do some experimenting this weekend!

Sorry, I guess I wasn't as clear as I could have been. Prescriptives is a different line and I find it at Nordstroms. I know that QVC carries some Prescriptives products, I'm sure they would have some lip gloss on their website.

Here is a link to the Prescriptives website. I get the Lip Shine. Now let me say, that I think the color swatches are not the greatest on the computer. The color Dandelion looks like a pink on the color swatch, but it is really a neutral/nude looking color. Very strange. There is also a store locator on the site if you wanted to check it out in person.

I had to reply to this post because I was in SD Monday and made a special trip just to get to Sephora (in search of a Vincent Longo lipstick I cannot find anywhere else.) I get there, and apparently they no longer carry the one shade of lipstick I buy. I had a girl loking for about 20 minutes to find me a similar shade but they had nothing even close. (And this is not some outrageous color, just more brown undertones than most of the colors out there this season.) So yesterday, I checked their web site - no luck (and an e-mail to them confirmed they no longer carry it.) However, I did luck out because an internet search found that www.drugstore.com has it for the same price (and no shipping charges).

Don't you hate it when everything you love gets discontinued? A friend of mine loves Lavender Flowers from Bath and Body Works and that got discontinued a couple years ago. Funnily enough, it showed up in stores over Christmas in the sale bins so she stocked up. Then there's always Ebay!

Gracie, Sephora carries tons and tons of brands, as well as their own line of products. If you see something in a magazine and it says it's available from sephora.com, it doesn't necessarily mean it's Sephora's own brand. Just a heads up in case there was any confusion.

Oh! Well! That does add to the confusion!! :D Thank you for the heads up! I'll be back at the eye doctor Friday so I can pay more attention to the product names in the ads. They only have a few interesting magazines so it'll be easy to find the one I had.

But I still can't wait to go to Sephora and play!
