My DH and I are going on vacation tomorrow to Lake Chelan for a week. He's at work, so I'm running around today trying to do some last minute errands. I came home from doing some shopping at Costco and:

1 - my son needed my car to go to work because his car won't start. He was in such a hurry, that he took off before I could suggest that I take him to work so I won't be without a car. Too late---he's gone!

2 - When I checked the load of laundry I put in the washing machine, I found the clothes sopping wet! The spin cycle doesn't work! The machine is 15 years old---I guess I need a new machine. But it decides to break down on the day before I go on vacation!

3 - My kitchen reeks of the carburetor fluid that my DH bought yesterday when he was trying to fix the lawn mower. He must have set the darn bottle down on the kitchen counter before he left for work this morning, and it tipped over and started leaking. The smell is on my hands too and I can't get it off!.

4 - because i don't have a car....I missed my hair appointment. This hairstylist is wonderful..and she's booked way ahead. I really need my hair cut - I can't do a thing with it!

The only good thing that happened today was when I got on the scale - I lost 2.5 pounds this week!

I really NEED this vacation!!

kentgirl,

It will all be behind you tomorrow when you get to your vacation destination...something to look forward to!

I find that when I'm rushing around, getting things ready, things like what you described really get to me and stress me out (like when I went to buy strawberries for a strawberry pie I was making for guests the next night and the store was out of strawberries. They had had tons of strawberries for weeks - argh!).

That's when I take a deep breath and remind myself of all the things that could be wrong or all of the things that are good, and suddenly things don't seem quite so bad anymore. Easier said than done....I know!

kentgirl,

We all seem to have days like that but hopefully not too often. Put it behind you by taking a nice relaxing bath with bath salts or bubbles, light some candles, maybe grab a nice glass or cup of your favorite relaxing beverage and just meditate putting all the happenings of today behind you and look forward to tomorrow. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Have a great time!

The good news is just when you really need a vacation, you already have one planned. Have a great time!

oh, kentgirl, just think that Saturday is now behind you and you get to look forward to a relaxing week in a beautiful place. And the forecast looks great- it's finally warming up.

I'm going to add a pity party http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif My own Saturday was awful. I'm in San Francisco- came here on business earlier in the week. DH, my brother and SIL flew in yesterday so we could all spend the weekend with my brother, SIL, and nephew in Alameda.
Friday night I ate in the hotel restaurant- broiled shrimp and one trip to the salad bar. 12:30 a.m. I awoke vomiting, with a fever and chills, alone, wanting to die! Spent the rest of the night making tracks to the bathroom. I missed breakfast with my B, SIL, and precious nephew, Yesterday by 10:00 am I could finally stand up for more than 5 minutes at a stretch - I made it to the airport to pick everyone up and we headed to my brother's. BY 3:00 I was wiped out again and laid on the hotel bed dozing and sleeping until this morning. I'm still tired, but functional. Good sign is that I am hungry- haven't eaten since Friday dinner!

I am also raring to speak to the hotel manager about food poisoning!

I'm just hoping to salvage some of the weekend today and tomorrow....

Thanks everyone for your kinds words. Just writing that post yesterday made me feel better.

Things have calmed down a bit. I did buy a new washing machine yesterday, and the smell in the kitchen eventually faded (a bit).

We're leaving in about 2 hours! Thanks for your kind words - it really calmed me down.!

Hi. Hope the vacation is great. Things always tend to happen before a trip or a holiday. My basement flooded before Easter this year. And we just ret to NYC. IT was so nice to get away for a few days (& not to see that mess in the basement!). HOpe all works out

So sorry to hear about your food poisoning Julie. It is so awful- especially when you are travelling. I could recount many horror stories from our family.
I will mention one. My husband is an artist and he was having a big opening in a well known Vancouver gallery. We celebrated by first having dinner at one of the city's most well known restaurants specializing in seafood. Ron (my DH) had shellfish. About 3 hours later(at the show) he became very ill- like a trooper he tried to stay and meet people but he spent most of the time in the bathroom. It was awful- everyone was there to meet him. He finally had to leave (drove himself back to the hotel!!!) while I stayed and played the role of the dutiful "hostess". Poor guy! That was 4 years ago and he just ate shellfish again for the first time last week.
Anyway do hope you are better. I hope you were able to let the restaurant know what happened. My husband phoned and they could of cared less!!
