I was thinking about having the kids make their own individual pizzas tomorrow night. My question is do you use sauce in a jar and if so what is your favorite. If you make your own sauce can you share the recipe. The kids may have friends so I will need something not too spicy. If you have something very yummy and spicy I can make a separate batch.

this is a very good recipe. you can't taste the anchovy. it is ok to leave it out though. you can also cut back or leave out the red pepper flakes and it is just as good. I use a bit less honey, but it depends on your personal taste.

Val this sounds good. I will leave out the anchovies. You do not need to cook it?

no. no need to cook.
I love this sauce and make it every time we have pizza. I don't put honey in at all, but do put in the anchovy paste; you can't even taste it. It's a great sauce and very forgiving in that you can alter it to your taste preferences.

Since you asked about canned sauce also, my favorite by FAR is Chef Boyardee. I can only find it at Stater Brothers though, they don't carry it in all the big grocery stores.
Thanks for the recipe Val, I made this yesterday and am planning on using some for pizzas and freezing some as well to have on hand for future recipes. It is great, I made it as written minus the anchovy paste which I didn't have on hand, but I would add if I did, had plenty of tomato paste to use up for this thanks to Sam's Club.

Val your pizza sauce was a huge success. I was not too sure about the honey, since I do not like the taste of it, but used it anyway. I also went a little light with it. It was great. My husband said it was the best pizza sauce he ever had and he has had a lot of pizza. Kids ages 6-13 ate it up and the pizza party night was a hit. I did leave out the achovy paste since the kids were watching and I was afraid it would be a turn off. Thank you for sharing.
We've bought Contadina and the Kroger store brand pizza sauce to have on the shelf for instant pizza sauce. The kids like both of those. I haven't made this one -- probably because of the honey and anchovy paste. I don't think my kids would like the honey , but I bet the anchovy paste's saltiness would go over just fine -- as long as they don't see it going in first. ;)
