I got a bread machine for Christmas and absolutely *love* it. But, I've exhausted the list of recipes that came with the machine (mostly standard white bread recipes), and the great Asiago recipe from CL March issue (yum).

Anyone out there have a recommendation for a good cookbook with interesting and dazzling bread recipes??

There are lots of websites with great recipes. Just think of the flour and yeast companies, and most have lots of recipes themselves.

Some are some not mentioned:
www.kingarthurflour.com (http://www.kingarthurflour.com) (here is the exact link) www.kingarthurflour.com/cgibin/htmlos/00159.4.095295842993193478 (http://www.kingarthurflour.com/cgibin/htmlos/00159.4.095295842993193478)
www.robinhood.ca (http://www.robinhood.ca)
www.betterbaking.com (http://www.betterbaking.com)
www.hodgsonmill.com (http://www.hodgsonmill.com)

Don't think think you have to use a particular brand of flour, just use bread flour.

Also, the local library ususally has a selection of cookbooks. I like to check some out before I buy, to see if I really like the recipes.

Have fun baking!

Susan, I got the book Bread Machine Magic about a year ago and love it. They have a web site : www.breadmachinemagic.com (http://www.breadmachinemagic.com) you might want to check out, I believe there are a couple of recipes there and descriptions of the books.

What size loaf does your machine make? I have a Panasonic and got a recipe book called Electric Bread when I bought the machine. It has some good recipes in it (although most of them do call for white bread flour). These recipes only make a one pound loaf, but if your machine is a 1-pound machine, I will be glad to post my favorites. I also bought a paperback book called The Bread Machine Cookbook V (I assume this means there was a I - IV). It has some good recipes also, and lists ingredients for each recipe to make a 1, 1 1/2 or 2 pound loaf. Let me know what size loaf your machine makes and I will post my favorites from this book also.

I have a Breadman machine. I tried a loaf of whole wheat bread and the paddle was in the bread after I removed it. I had to cut off the bottom portion to get the paddle out and it stayed really hot for a long time. Is that a normal thing with bread machines ?

Have you thought of checking some of the yeast manufacturers web sites. For example Fleischmans or Red Star.

Here's some: www.breadrecipe.com (http://www.breadrecipe.com)
www.breadworld.com (http://www.breadworld.com)

I've used some from Fleischmans.

I have about 4 or 5 bread making books on my countertop right now, all containing a great variety of breads, and all include directions for the traditional hand method, heavy duty mixer method and for bread machines. All of these books are from the library and are very, very good. I suggest checking out your library before buying any books.

I have one I really enjoy and make one Whole Wheat bread in particular twice a week.

The book is by Lora Brody and its called Bread Machine Baking - Perfect Every Time. It gives recipes specific to your type of bread machine. I have only made several of the different whole grain recipes (which is what I bake for my DD), but one day I will get to try some others. I have had good results, but since we have more humidity here, I usually have to add more flour depending on how humid it is on the particular day I bake.

Here is a good site to visit if you have Mastercook. There is a cookbook of bread machine recipes that you can download to Mastercook. Of course there are many other recipes/downloads to choose from.

I have a few cookbooks for the bread machine and like all of them. I tend to use the Bread Machine Magic books the most:

-Bread Machine Magic Book of Helpful Hints
-More Bread Machine Magic
-Electric Bread
-More Electric Bread

I ditto what others have said....there's also lots of sources on the web.

I agree with the recommendations of books - Bread Machine Magic was my first one, and I still use a lot of recipes from there. It has a nice assortment of dough recipes for rolls (sweet and savory), as well as all sorts of other goodies. I have a 1 pound Panasonic that's been going strong for almost 8 years now! Jusy FYI - you can make 1 1/2 pound recipes on the dough cycle in the 1 pound machine, which is helpful when trying out new recipes. I have been trying to make more whole grain breads, and have found that I can take any (2 cup) white flour recipe and substitute a cup of white whole wheat flour and 1 T. of gluten for one cup of white flour, and get great, light results. King Arthur sells this kind of flour - it's a lot better than regular whole wheat flour, with all the same nutrients. I mill my own flour from white whole wheat, and it's great for breads in the machine. Hope you enjoy your machine as much as we do!

Thanks for all the recommendations! I'll be sure to check out those websites. I have an Oster machine that makes up to 2 lb. loaf.

DMOrtega -- my paddle sticks in the bread when I make the larger loaves, too. I take a sharp knife and dig it out. It leaves a hole, but I figure it's better than slicing off the bottom.

Thanks for all of the great websites and tips! The tip that a 1 1/2 lb. loaf can be made on the dough cycle in a 1 lb. machine is especially helpful. The websites are wonderful. Just got a machine this weekend, love it already!
