being the control freak (and baking lover) that I am, I'm planning on making my own birthday cake this saturday (for me, and my dad, who's birthday happens to be the same day). I want to make a banana cake with chocolate frosting and somehow incorporate peanut butter also. I'm thinking of cheating with a box mix and substituting bananas for the oil then I'd like to make my own choco frosting, something somewhat light and fluffy, any "best of" recipes out there?? And my next question is should I add layers of a peanut butter frosting or somehow use peanut butter in the batter of the cake or chocolate frosting? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :-)

Thanks,
Sarah

I am far from a master baker, but off-hand, I think it sounds yummy to incorporate the PB in the chocolate frosting-- YUM! A layer of frosting in the middle and then on top. Let us know what you decide to do and how it turns out.

This idea comes from a CL peanut butter brownie recipe, which actually calls for you to mix peanut butter morsels with marshmallow creme and then spread it on top. Since you want chocolate frosting, though, you could incorporate the peanut butter chips into the batter.

I ended up using the yellow cake mix using banana in place of oil, then I mixed peanut butter with some cool whip for 2 layers and topped with sliced bananas and then did 2 chocolate layers with packaged choco frosting with cool whip. Not exactly your truest baking but it was delicious. I attached a picture, not sure if this will work...hopefully it is viewable.

If you didn't have to have the banana in there, you really should have tried one of the best and easiest cakes I have made in ages: Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cake With Cream Cheese and Butterfinger Frosting (http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70118&highlight=butterfinger). DELICIOUS!
