Big surprise.

The news showed an interior shot of her home - OMG. Quite a pigsty.

I wish that Wendy's hadn't had to be dragged through the mud before the truth came out. Their business has dropped. Hopefully it will recover now.

So do we know where she got the finger? What a freak.

That whole story is just plain creepy. "A well-manicured nail on a finger tip" .....eeeee.

Even though I suspected something like this, I still think I will always have a little trouble eating Chili from Wendy's. I hope that Wendy's sues her, because she really dragged their name through the mud, and I can't even imagine what it has cost them.

Plus, now they have at least one squeemish customer (through no fault of their own...)

And another one - me. The chili was about the only thing I enjoyed at Wendy's. The last time I took the kids, I couldn't even think of ordering it.:(

I read someplace -- when they were just wondering if she'd faked the incident -- that it was thought to have come from the body of an aunt of hers who'd died recently.

Which is just utterly sick. What'd she do, stand there at the visitation, carve it off and tuck it in her purse?

As far as I know, they haven't ID'd the finger. I heard that they knew that it couldn't have come from Wendy's (or any of their vendors) since it was not "cooked".

That footage of her house reminded me of that one show called "How Clean Is Your House?" (or something like that). It was absolutely disgusting!

Here's another article on it. Apparently, she has a history. I don't think I want to see her house.

She may not have any assets for Wendy's to recover any damages from, but I do hope they will see both pressing criminal charges and a civil suit as necessary to deter her and others who abuse the process (remember the woman who filed a claim for a staged incident at a Walmart sale, getting trampled over a VCR or DVD player?). It's also a necessary step tp protect their name and reputation, counter bad publicity, etc. The fact that the lady might have to declare bankruptcy under a new law that won't let her get off so easy wouldn't cause me to loose sleep.

So, in the face of all evidence that this was staged, you are going to abandon a good company anyway?

Wendy's is by far the best of the burger joints. I worked there in college, and I can tell you that the food is made from actual ingredients there in the store. The hamburger is regular fresh meat like you would buy at the supermarket, and made into patties there in the restaurant -- they are not processed frozen pucks. Same with the boneless chicken breast, both the grilled and fried. In fact, nothing in the restaurant is frozen other than the fries (and the frostys, of course). I also appreciate their efforts to offer healthier items in general, not just in terms of basic food quality but in terms of calorie/fat content.

So, support your local Wendy's. If you still can't deal with the chili, order something else.

It can't be helped that people get an image in their head when they look at fast food joints from this. Yesterday was the first time since the incident that I've stopped for FF. It wasn't Wendys. I can't bring myself to that, yet. Even so, I just about gagged on the wrap and ended up just eating my fries. I am not going to apologize, I think it's human nature.

I do want to edit to agree that Wendy's is one of best FF places. I do root for the home team but gross is gross.

They said on the radio that the Wendy's up here (at least) are going to be giving away free Frostys. San Jose police were going to hold a press conference later today as well regarding this.

I just checked the paper...the frosty offer is only in the Bay Area

Wendy's made two announcements before the arrest Thursday: Bay Area Wendy's will give a free junior Frosty to customers dropping by on Saturday and Sunday, and the finger didn't come from them.

They really should have given away chicken fingers! :D

(come on, I know I'm not the only one who thought of it...)

I believe people will do anything after some woman cuts off someone's finger and sticks it in her chili. My little bit of faith in humanity is gone.

I just think most people are way to squeamish in general, but that's another thread. It never occured to me to steer clear of any fast food, even Wendy's, in the wake of this. I guess I just worked in the restaurant business too long to see one incident -- even if it WERE true -- to be anything more than a single, isolated accident in a single location.

I think I'll go to Wendy's this weekend and order me a nice big bowl of chili, just because :D . Actually, I'll do it to support Wendy's...

:D I thought about this last night in the drive thru line. I wondered to myself if any of the chains would change the name from chicken fingers to ....what?!?!?! :D

tongues?? :D Really, nothing but strips, sounds that appetising...

What I don't get is that cutting off some dead woman's finger is only considered grand theft. Really, there ought to be more charges...desecration or something...

Y'all are probably too young to remember the poison-in-the-Tylenol thing, but I was positive at the time that Tylenol would never survive. But we all buy it now, so any bad publicity can be overcome. I've never had Wendy's chili, but this wouldn't stop me from eating it if I wanted it. I just hope the talk shows won't all book the idiot woman who started the whole thing. She shouldn't become a celebrity, but probably will.

According to the news report I heard on the way home, she was arrested for grand theft regarding a mobile home and the attempted grand theft for the Wendy's hoax. Obviously, more charges will be filed if they ever figure out where the finger came from (I would think extortion at the least)
