Fish/Seafood Chowder:How do they sell this stuff for $3.50 a bowl

Ok. I have been in New England for nearly 7 months now and and I have yet to have a decent bowl of chowder!!! Today, during a trip to the NH coast, I was again served wonderfully fresh seafood in a broth (?) of milk and butter with no taste whatsoever! No thyme no nothing. I have a mind to start my own chowder stand. Any other New Englanders have similar experiences?

Hi: I suggest trying Legal Seafood's Chowder, available at their restaurants and many stores. Not low-fat, but really good! Also: if you are ever in SE. Mass, Ocean Fresh Seafood on Rte 1 in North Attleboro has wonderful chowder and seafood at great prices. If you go to the Cape, your luck should improve! Good luck, I hope that you can get a decent bowl soon!
