For those who made this cake, do you think it would be ok to sub a buttercream frosting for the cream cheese one or would that be too sweet?

This cake looks great, but I'm really not a fan of cream cheese frostings.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I think a buttercream would be... yucky, but I hate buttercream, especially the American-style fat+sugar ones.

Actually some kind of caramel or burnt sugar frosting would probably be good, though sweet too.

I've made the cake twice now, and dropped the sugar in the cake part both times by about a third. It was still very good, and that might balance out a sweeter frosting, too.

What about frosting it with just plain whipped cream, and not bothering with the cream cheese part? That would be, I think, excellent. Personally, I feel the whole cream cheese frosting WITH whipped cream is a bit unnecessarily much anyhow.

Ooh, whipped cream - didn't think of that... hmm, that might work out... thanks!
