Loved it! What a fun movie. I thought they did a very nice job.
I don't think it would be as enjoyable to people who haven't already read the book, though.
A fun way to spend the afternoon.:)
editing to say that the resident KnitWits will appreciate one of the scenes...:D

I heard it reviewed on no fewer than three radio programs this afternoon - all positive. Haven't read the book myself, but I know DBF is looking forward to the movie.

It might not make too much sense if you haven't read the book. There are some details that aren't explained in the movie, but you understand if you know the book.
Enjoy!

Is the book the same name as the movie? I know DS really wants to see it, so maybe we should try to get hold of the book first.

Yes, the first book has the same name as the movie. There are 4 books in the trilogy.
No, that's not a typo.

Yes, the first book in the series is called Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. There are more after that, but the movie corresponds pretty well to the first book.

Thanks. I just put a hold on it at the library. Several copies, but they are ALL checked out. Figures!

What is the book/movie about?--other than the galaxy--I got that point.

Life, the Universe, Everything, parties, flying, poetry, cocktails, towels, and really wild things.

It's sort of like a cross between Spaceballs and Monty Python. Very goofy.

And that goes on for four books???? Can't quite see it, but now I'm curious. I'll have to at least get through the first book!

Actually, there are 5 books in the trilogy :D
And the movie was a blast, but I do agree that it's alot better if you're familiar with the series.
And at least 90% of the people in the theater where I saw it yesterday had their towels with them
So long, so long, so long and thanks for all the fish :D :p :D

That's if you actually want to count the fifth book... http://ellis.dyndns.biz/users/chinwag/emoticons/negative/yucky.gif

DD and I went to see Hitchhiker's Guide with friends yesterday and had fun. I don't think you necessarily have to be familiar with the books to enjoy the movie. I read the first two books when they were published and DD has never heard of them (she's 11). I highly recommend it to anyone. :)

Actually, the movie isn't technically based on the book.
First there was a radio series in England.
Then there were some books.
Then there was a tv series on the BBC.
There was a computer game (or two).
Now there is a movie.
They were all fun, all slightly different, and all based on the same story.

Well, I'm the odd one out, but I really thought the movie was awful. Just not my taste.

I think it's going to be a love it or hate it kind of thing.

All of the nerdy boys read the books when I was in grade school(which was 20ish years ago)and I was really shocked to see it being made into a movie now. I confess though that I've never had any idea what the books were about. Maybe I should give it a try.

Dh picked up this book in the airport on the way to vacation. He said 2 things, first, hated the ending (not realizing that it was a trilogy) and that I would NOT like it. This, the man who took me to see Mars Attacks for our 18th wedding anniversary. :p He was so lucky dinner was wonderful (and I had had plenty to drink) :p
That said, I borrowed the 2nd in the series from the library and he enjoyed that. Looking forward to the rest, or at least, says he has to read the rest.

DD age 13 and 2 friends who had all read the book and loved the book saw it yesterday. All 3 of them hated it and thought it was a waste of (their) money. Maybe if I'd paid for her, she would have liked it better!! :D :D
However they were all prepared to love it and don't pan too many movies. FW that's W!

Kristine, I don't think you are odd :D I also saw the movie this weekend. I had not read the books. I didn't find it particularly difficult to follow, but, really just thought it was okay. There were a couple cute/funny parts. But, I thought a lot of it just dragged on and I felt like it should have been a lot funnier.
