Of course, you'll have to lower the fat and calories by making the proper substitutions...like lowfat milk in the pudding, lowfat topping...
Let me know if you try it and like it...It is an absolute favorite at my house and at church. People ask me to bring this dessert whenever we do a potluck!
Combine 2 large packages vanilla pudding and cook according to pudding direction except that you also add 2 lemon slices. Cook until thickened. Remove from heat, remove lemon slices and add 2 tsps. almond extract. Mix well. Cut 1 pound cake into 1/2 inch thick slices and put a layer of the pound cake in a 13X9X2 dish. Cover with half of the pudding. Repeat cake mixture and pudding layer. Refrigerate overnight. When ready to serve, spread whipped topping over top of dessert and garnish with the chocolate shavings of two large size Hershey chocolate bars. This recipe is so absolutely YUMMY! Hope some of you try it and let me know what you think!

This sounds really good. Could you substitute angel food cake for the pound cake?

You know, I am not sure.....but I will tell you this....the recipe is soooooo good the other way....that there is no way that it could be bad with another kind of cake....It has to be good. If you try it let me know!

My mom makes something like this using Entenmen's fat free chocolate pound cake cut into cubes and layered with chocolate instant pudding, cool whip and crushed heath bars in a trifle dish, it is so good and everyone thinks its really fancy!

jmarie,

this sounds really good, but i have 2 questions:

1st, do you really need to use cook pudding or can you use instant?

2nd, if you use the cook pudding do you need to let it cool and for how long?

thanks for the recipe Ann

I have only used the cooked variety and I put the pudding on the cake, hot....it kinda soaks into the cake. Then cover it with saran wrap and store in fridge overnight. Good luck! Let me know if any of you tried it!
