I love garlic, so I just eat as much as I want and chew lots of gum. I don't know if there is anything you can do to avoid the garlic breath.

Garlic breath comes from eating raw garlic, for the most part. I have heard that there are people that "retain" the garlic and it permeates through their body. They could eat it one day, and reek of garlic 2 days later.

Once garlic is cooked, it takes on an entirely different flavor. However, to get rid of garlic breath, you can chew a bit of parsley.

Since when is garlic breath a problem? Hubby and I consider onion and garlic to be a 'food group'!

And I know that if I run out of my favorite cologne, if I ever want to get that man going all I have to do is rub a cut clove behind each ear....ah, romance! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

I understand that a bit of chocolate helps with garlic breath. This may or may not be true, but I swear by it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif!

Oh, the joys of garlic breath!

Garlic, garlic, garlic fair
When I eat you, people stare
Garlic, garlic, bulb odiferous
I like you much on vegetables cruciferous.

Seems to me that if everyone is eating garlic that no one notices the garlic breath... so pass me another helping! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

But seriously, if you're /really/ looking for a couple of good ways to rid yourself of evil garlic odor:
Three remedies for garlic breath: Eat fresh
parsley, chew on a coffee bean, eat a bowl of lime sherbet. (from 1,001 Secrets of Great Cooks, by Jean Anderson)

The issue is-- as I see it-- not how to avoid garlic breath, rather how to avoid people who don't like it!

'Fraid I'm with Jewel on this one. Dab a little garlic behind the ears and hubby will follow me anywhere...

But if you really feel you must, the natural chlorophyl in parsley is supposed to combat garlic breath...

The taste of garlic makes me sick, and I taste it for about 48 hours after eating it. I also smell it in my body and even... (believe it or not) the commode! I have also smelled it "releasing" from skin or something of people at my house during their sleep. Personally, I can't even stand to eat anything made with much garlic.

http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gifPoor AD I am so sorry to hear that! My DH always asks, "Is there garlic in this?" I never tell him that there are three cloves, just answer "Yes!" We love it so much, we grow it!!
A day without garlic is like a day without sunshine...

Okay, here's the secret! After you chop your garlic, let it sit for 10 full minutes before adding it to your recipe. This is supposed to keep you from having garlic breath, but more importantly, it is better for you medicinally. Something to do with it having contact with the air. Also, if you see that little "sprout" in the center, it is the most pungent and I've been told by a chef to dispose of that part.

Hey guys,
Well- they say to get rid of garlic & onion odors on the hands while cooking- you can rub your hands on the stainless steel sink or bars made for the purpose. So- do we dare somebody to try it with their tongue? LOL. Lemon, sage, parsley are all things said to help, too. Me, I just enjoy it and encourage everyone else to stink, too.

If they'd just sell garlic toothpastes and gum this wouldn't be a problem...

Garlic is great on Pizza as well. At work, we use to order a pizza with a thick crust, double cheese, and fresh garlic!!!! It sure is a way for the boss not making you stay late. Tasted like glorified garlic bread!!
