I bought red onions at the farmers market that still have the greens attached. Can I do anything with them? I'm thinking I could use them in recipes that call for leeks, but I'm not sure.

I would use them but probably not like leeks. I think they'll be much hotter. Maybe as a garnish for a dish where the red onion was pretty dominate?

I'd chop them up and use them like scallions.

Okay, two votes for scallions (that was my first thought but they are so big and long so I went with leeks). Anybody else care to guess?

Another vote for using like scallions, however, you might want to check and see if the stems are tough - if they have flowered or have buds on the end they sometimes get rather woody.
