Preserving Basil

What's your best technique for making store bought basil last a few days in the refrigerator...or however you do it? And how long can you make it last? Thanks!

For keeping basil you don't want to put it into the fridge. Just keep it like fresh flowers, in a vase on the counter! It lasts a long time and will grow roots, so if you want you can even plant it!

Well, I had two bunches I wanted to last 10 days, so I did as TwinMom suggested. Inside of two weeks some had roots -- just like she said. I'm getting ready to pot mine now.

Thanks, PeaceandQuiet, for posting this. I must have missed it. Do you think it would work for other fresh herbs, like thyme? I'll have to give this a try!:)

Fabulous. And that will make my kitchen smell like basil, which is definately a plus!
