I'm embarrassed to ask this, but I gotta since you folks know everything: The last three days I have been nearly unbearably bloated, especially in the upper abdomen. My typical day's food is 2 scrambled egg whites, a 3 oz plain baked potato, two green salads, 6 oz baked or smoked chicken, an apple, and about 2 cups of Roasted Broccoli. I know broccoli is a gas-giver, but are regular salads? I'm not eating salt, my seasonings are only salt-free stuff, balsamic vinegar and lemon juice, and I'm drinking lots of water. The first week on this program didn't do this to me, but I also wasn't roasting broccoli for dinner last week. Could broccoli be my problem? Gas-X and other gas relievers aren't helping!
Keep in mind I've never been a salad eater before. I've probably had 5 salads in 5 years. In the last three days I've had 6!! It's just bagged salad, but could iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots be bloating me so much? I need to find some way to take care of this besides OTC Simethicone! Any ideas out there? Jewel,
Maybe your body is just ajusting to the fiber thing. Could be you did too much too soon. I once brought over a large shrimp salad to my brother who was single at the time and only ate pizza. The day after I had a message on my machine that (I'll put it more politely than he did) he was on the pot all night. Try increasing vegetables slowly. Your poor intestinal track is probably in shock.

Jewel, do your bagged salad mixes contain cabbage? If yes, that might be the problem, because anything in the cabbage family (including broccoli) gives gas, and it's actually worse if the veggie hasn't been cooked.
That's the only thing I can come up with... It's not a fun problem to have, and I hope it goes away soon.

Iceberg lettuce always does this to me. I have found that the greener the lettuce the less likely to have a problem.

Beano is supposed to help for that type of gas. I have not tried it, but if all else fails . . .
I have used Gas-X, and find that sometimes the trick is to take it BEFORE the problems starts, not once it has started.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Yes, my bagged salad does contain a few shreds of purple cabbage, but I don't think enough to matter. It's like three shreds per 2 cup bowl! I think some of it was the broccoli. I did't eat it last night just to check, and there was a bit of difference. Glad to hear that iceberg lettuce does this to others also.
Sorry for the weird questions, but I literally am a Veggie Virgin! That's probably the main reason I got so heavy early in life! As for introducing them slowly, I tried, but if I wasn't eating veggies on this program I wasn't eating, so I jumped into the Produce Aisle with both feet! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif
Of course I also figured out part of the problem...I thought I would 'cheat' a little with some sugar free hard candies to satisy that 'Butterscotch Disk' craving and keep my mouth busy, then I noticed that the main ingredient was Sorbitol sweetener. That stuff bloats me up like a Hot Air Balloon and I forgot all about it! No more hard candies, but at least I won't sit at my desk and gurgle.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I've used Bean-O with success. If only I'd remembered to use it before having beans for lunch and dinner yesterday! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif

The bean-o that I'm talking about is a bottle of pills. You take 1-3 pills after you take your first bite of food.
I have this problem 24/7! I hardly eat any gassy foods, but ANY carbohydtate can cause gas except rice (including wheat which is in everything). I've tried all the gas medications and enzymes (digestive enzymes are supposed to help), and nothing has worked! I am always bloated; some foods even make it worse which is one of the main reasons I like Cooking Light.

The only Beano I have seen is the liquid that you put in your first few bites of food. How would I put that on Roasted Broccoli, just dab and chew before it drips? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif Is there another form? I'm seeing people tomorrow that haven't seen me since my Tummy Tuck surgery and weight loss, and bloat will spoil the 'wow' effect I want to make!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif
