View Full Version : HL/WWSG - Week of May 8th -- HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Greetings friends, both long term and new additions to the community. I’ll start by wishing all mothers and those who fondly remember their mothers on this day of celebration a wonderful and peace-filled day. Things were starting to get a little normal across the land then - WHAM! - a last gasp of winter peeked through. A fairly horrendous storm knocked the East Coast (and I think another one hit the middle of the country) but in general it looks promising for the week to come. Regardless it has been a busy time with our regulars and even a couple peeps from new comers. I hope we keep our spirited discussions flowing this week as in the past couple.
Like I alluded to, we’ve had some decent reports from our veteran HL/WWSG members which is a good thing. In an attempt to “catch up” without over-taxing the opening salvo in this weeks thread I’ll summarize (again) my thoughts from the last week or so that have stood out among the group include:
Family life - Leah getting closer still to her wedding day (just under 2 weeks); Birthdays abounded for Karen‘s DS and Sarah; “bad“ haircuts (Karen‘s DS’s); end of the school year fast approaching across the country YEAH for the teachers too.
SUCCESSES! - Sarah listening to her body to rest a little before her 25k race; Heather reaching the end of the school year; Heather’s services being auctioned off at her school (for $4000 :o ); Laura surviving a driving session with DD in rush hour (maybe that’s stressful living??).
Stressful living - Leah trying to sort out the remaining wedding issues; Sarah selling her house and making an offer on a new house; Heather packing to move to a new apartment; Lisa working through the remainder of her work year and new insurance issues.
Healthful living - Laura doing well with her broken nose and not needing surgery; recovery from my tumble yesterday (what a beautiful abrasion); everybody making their workouts and for the most part eating in a healthy manner.
Missing in Action - Jackie O, it‘s been a while; Jacki; Laura K.
Healthful living this week should include:
Sun - XT w/weights
Mon - Run
Tue - Swim or Bike
Wed - Run
Thu - Bike or maybe swim
Fri - Rest
Sat - Long run (of undetermined distance)
Healthful living - Follow up with the doctor to get into the good podiatrist (he used to be in private practice as a specialist in running orthotics and shoes); work on getting better sleep (more of it).
Short and to the point because I’ve got to fly to the gym but I’ll be back later. I hope that I haven‘t excluded or slighted anyone - that‘s never my intention. Until this evening friends and visitors -
Peace,
Les

Les, it's such good thing you remember everything going on! I'm not sure if I could! I hope that your tumble wasn't too bad. Just how black and blue are you? Take care of yourself!!
Monday marks three weeks of school left. I'm thinking that at least next week will be very, very long. We had another 8th grade teacher leave and I'm on tap to be in the classroom for at least one day. I said I would do it when asked (after all how can I say no? )but I can't say I'm terribly excited. Guess this means I will be taking my tylenol bottle with me! I am excited about the fact that I made each one of my 301 goals for this year! 301 is extra money the people of Arizona voted for teachers to have and is added to each paycheck. The goals have the potential to add an additinal $2200 spread out over next year's paychecks. This is the first time I have made my goals!
It feels weird for classes to be done. I'm at somewhat of a loss as to what to do with myself! I think by the time the second summer session begins I will be ready for class no matter what! I'm thinking about taking some additional classes through another college over the summer, the state of Arizona has decided that I need to be ESL endorsed by the next time my certificate renews. In the long run this works out because each additinal endorsement means more money on my salary base.
I spent the weekend working on gilling out insurance enrollment forms for next year. I think the plan I am choosing will be more beneficial to my situation, but no one can say for sure! These decisions have to last a year, so what ever I pick has to be the one.
Nothing new on the cancer front. My appointment with the new PCP is next Tuesday and hopefully from there things can get started again.
Let's see healthy living goals for this week?
1. The taking it one day at a time seems to be working, so I will stick with it. This includes taking care of myself and listening to my body and mind.
2. I went to the gym twice last week and am hoping to increase the number of times to 4 this week. I feel good once I am done, it's just the getting there that seems to be the difficulty! In the back of my mind I know that working out will help me recover faster from the surgery this summer.
3. Water! OF COURSE.
4. Working on not eating because of stress. Like I did today and made myself sick-yuck!
I hope that all the mothers on the board had a wonderful day!
Enjoy the rest of your sunday.
Lisa

I'm a fur mommy, does that count? ;)
Sporadic one checking in (shamed by Les's nice reply on a thread I had). Not much to report here, and this will be short as I'm sweating my knees off (the AC is off for some weird reason... hmmm... maybe I should turn it on?) and getting ready for bed. This will be my last full workout week, so hopefully it will be uneventful and this cold that I've managed to catch this weekend will wander away, unmissed. I'm still annoyed that I've been exercising my fanny off and eating healthy and the stupid scale won't budge an ounce. Stupid scale.
Workout plans for this week:
Sunday: run. Done.
Mon: lift, teach, cardio
Tues: lift/cardio/something energetic
Wed: teach
Thurs: teach, more cardio
Fri: lift, cardio, something
Will be out of town this coming weekend for future mother-in-law's birthday party. Hopefully will eat healthily and not stress when future in-laws ask me questions that will inevitably cause my eye twitch to return.
Sorry this is short, but like I said, I'm sweating here and must go sit near an open breezy window.
Les, how many times a year do you tumble? I didn't read the specifics on this last one, I just seem to recall a similar incident where you thought your bike was a launch pad...
Happy Mother's Day all and have a good week. :)

A quick hello from me as well. The kids all gave me wonderful homemade Mother's Day gifts and were well behaved to boot!!;) We went out to dinner tonight and for ice cream afterwards. DH got me some lovely roses. DS#1 is also quite pleased with his b-day presents. We got him the entire set of Hardy Boys mystery books and a digital camera. Boy was he having fun today!
I had two decent workouts this weekend. We tried to take a walk outside as well this afternoon, but it was a bit windy and chilly here. It is supposed to warm up through the week. Tomorrow I plan on swimming and kickboxing. It's a busy week for me, and I think this will be the M.O. until school is out. DS#1 has Cub scout bowling tomorrow night, an orthodontist appt. Tuesday, Wed. is Daisy's, Thurs is science after school, Friday more cub scouts, and next weekend the in-laws are coming for dinner/visit. I am also volunteering for the next several Tuesday's in the kids classrooms and then there are end of year concerts etc... Speaking of which this Thursday DS#2 starts the 1st grades 26 day count down to the end of the year! They count down from A to Z until the last day of school, so there are things like Bubble day, Gum chewing day etc... through "z" which stands for Zoom out of school!!:D
I hope everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyable Mother's days if you celebrated. Have a good evening.

Hey Lisa it's good to hear from you and it sounds like you're doing ok - I'm glad. I know this will be a busy three weeks for you but I also know you will make it. I like you attitude and sticking with one day at a time - you (and all of us for that matter) really can do nothing more than that. Congrats on meeting a 301 goal - I'm sure the extra $$ will be appreciated. I agree that a class to boost your ESL certification is a good thing - never hurts to be more qualified for your principle job. I have faith that you'll have a successful week. Keep plugging.
And then there's Leah, the bride-to-be. One more full week of workouts then a trip to the VI - Woo Hoo! Busy sweating are you? Sorry to hear that and I'd be willing to trade a little of the cold weather we had this weekend if you'd like - just tell me where to send it. I think taking a tumble is an annual thing since my last spill happened in July last year. The biggest problem with this one is I really was being a good boy and didn't even try to jump over the downed tree, I just had the branch I was balanced on give way and didn't have any way to catch myself. Hopefully this spill won't take me out of business for as long as the last one did. I'll be thinking of you at MIL's birthday. Just remember that it's only a day and you can darn near hold your breath for a day. Besides, by the time the next birthday rolls around you'll be a happily married lady. BTW - I hear you're looking for an escort down the aisle. ;) (Little bird told me.) Hope someone comes to your rescue.
Karen - I'm glad Mother's Day was good and not a terror on your household. 26 days until the end of school - hard to believe it's that far away (relatively speaking). Hope your week is good and everything comes off as planned.
No running today but I did lift, did abs, and stretched today. Felt better than last week especially since the AC was on in the gym. But (luckily or unlickily) it was a "boys day out" this week - just me and my coach.
However, a new development in the spill from yesterday - it appears I may be developing two black eyes to go with the abrasions around my eyes. I can't wait until morning to see what happens over night. Luckily for me I went to the doctor on Friday ;) so I don't have to explain the abrasions and bruising. I hope he would believe my story though. But in all, I doubt that will make much difference in my upcoming week.
Hope everyone is well and that folks come with news for the group.
BTW - I forgot to mention in my recap about Sarah experiencing the community aspect of exercise and running - good for her!
Until tomorrow, I'm off to try and meet one of my goals for the week so until later...
Peace,
Les

Well my birthday and Mother's Day ended up being a bust, but there's always next year. (There's a vent thread out there somewhere if you want details)
Saturday I ended up running 8 miles, did nothing on Sunday. Didn't make it to the gym this morning either, no energy after spending most of Sunday arguing with DH. I'll get back into the swing of things tonight or tomorrow.
Made the carrot cake from May CL yesterday for my birthday/mother's day cake to take to moms only to have it fall on the floor. Never thought I'd be so glad to see a monday!
Les - I thought the same thing as Leah, seems its an annual thing with you and the ground!
Leah - Thanks for checking in. Don't worry about that nasty scale, you're gonna be beautiful!
Back to work~

Sarah - Sorry your birthday and Mother's Day was such a bust. I did read the other (vent) thread. Sorry DH has been such a putz (sorry to offend any who speak Yiddish) and I won't stand up for his actions but I will stand up for my gender and say that all men are not that unthinking, although the actions of a few outweigh the good actions of those who do the right thing because it is the right thing to do (that's really hard to follow but I think you get my drift). I guess I learned early how to act as a gentleman and a considerate husband/son/brother (thank you to all the women and good male role models in my life too).
Now off my soapbox.
To a lighter topic - I hope you did get back in the swing of things today. After this weekend you deserve the best day of the week today.
In the long run I'd say there weren't have any detrimental effects on my running from this weekends extravaganza. Oddly (or not) I've gotten more comments at work than I did yesterday but that's to be expected figuring these folks see me 5 out of 7 days a week. But I digress... I had a better run this noon - probably the best in a long time. Just a hair over an hour and probably about 7.5 miles. Felt good to get a faster mid-week run in especially since I did decent weights yesterday and 15 miles on Saturday.
Good and calming thought for everyone and until later...
Peace,
Les

Blick. Grumble. Cough. Cough.
I have an explanation for the sweaty knees, at least. Went to work this morning and promptly got sent home to the doctor when they heard my impressive cough I'd been practicing all weekend - guess they were jealous? Doctor was not jealous, but kind, and prescribed lots of drugs and announced that I have bronchitis. Yuck. So I have 10 days worth of antibiotics and 11 days before I hop on a plane. Oy.
So no workout today for me other than blowing my nose and grumbling. Slept most of the afternoon and am headed downstairs to eat something and take some more drugs and go to bed. I don't have time to be sick!!!!
Okay, now I'm going to scan Sarah's thread and send kind thoughts to her and to Les's eyes and Lisa's body and to Karen's kids who will hopefully continue the good behavior.
Codeine here I come!
Night all,
Leah

Sarah-Sorry your mother's day was a bust. Boys will be boys! I hope this week is better for you.
Les-Hello racoon eyes!!!! Just tell everyone, "You should have seen the other guy!!" or "My wife could not control herself" etc.... or something else along those lines if people keep asking about your "war wounds" from the weekend tumble. Glad you made up for it with a good run.
Leah-Yikes! The big day is coming up fast now! How exciting. I agree with everyone else....don't fret over the numbers. Just enjoy this time. And I hope the in-laws don't revive any eye twitches for you. My in-laws are visiting this Sunday as well.
I had an excellent swim this morning, and also managed to make it to the store for a whirlwhind trip to gather up the weekly nonperishable stuff before heading over to kickboxing class. Later this week I'll go back for fresh veggies etc... My bag punching and kicking session was also a good one. DS#1 had his Cub scout bowling tonight, and enjoyed that very much. Tomorrow he is going on a field trip, and wants to bring his new camera(b-day present). It is all labeled now, and he had the "responsibility" talk so I'll cross my fingers it makes it home(and in one piece). Tomorrow he also has an orthodontist appt. Should make for a fun afternoon. I'm just planning on a swim as I will be spending the morning at DD's classroom for center time volunteering.
Have a good evening everyone.

I'm glad I said that because I was worried that I had been "turned" by the evil side (don't go to the dark side Luke). IMO DH should be severely chastised and reminded Family Life is a group effort. You had every right to be furious with DH and I got more and more upset as I thought about the whole ordeal. Still hoping you had a good day today to offset the weekend.
Leah - YUCK!! Bronchitis 11 days before you leave for your wedding - not fun and that's not the way it's supposed to be done. ;) But if yours is like LW's bronchitis attacks she doesn't have an appitite. Not my recommended diet plan but - in a pinch... Rest well and get healthy so you can be the beautiful, blushing bride you should be. I hope the meds don't really wipe you out between now and then either.
Karen - I've had lots of discussions about my war wounds including the scrape on my left shoulder (posterior) and right knee (don't ask it will only make your head hurt). I had lots of fun with the wounds too - people really didn't believe the cause and I did sell it so well. One day of sanity down and a day of insanity to come. I hope DS#1's day goes as planned and his present comes back in one piece. Enjoy DD's class tomorrow - I know you will.
I think that's all the news that's fit to print. Pleasant early-May thoughts and sweet dreams for the gang. Until tomorrow may each and everyone have peace.

Les - Thanks for your words of wisdom and a male perspective besides "suck it up". We had a nice discussion last night and I think (hope) we're on the same page now. Nobody every said marriage is easy. Your workouts sound like they're getting better and better, glad you enjoyed your "mid-week" run on Monday.
Leah - Sending you get well wishes your way! Don't worry, you'll be fine in no time.
Karen - Have fun in DD's classroom and I hope DS comes back with his camera!
Last night took Lily for a speedy 30 min walk as the storm clouds were moving in. It never did rain but she freaks out a storms and was not the easiest talk to walk with last night. Did 60 minutes of cardio this morning at the gym and planning on weights tomorrow.
Weighed myself today for the 1st time in a long time and I'm 3 lbs below my goal weight:eek:! Problem is I don't feel any different, I was hoping those 3 lbs would come on my lower belly - oh well.
Happy Tuesday

Just got a call that a couple wants to make an offer on our house, meeting tonight at 6:30!!!

Sarah - It's great that you are getting an offer this evening on your house. Hope this one comes through - that will be one less thing on your plate. I heartily agree that marriage has been anything but easy - fun and exciting certainly but never easy. And looking back at the past 21 + years Kathy and I have had our share of misunderstandings, our share of discussions, and more than our share of good times. Over time things work out for the best. Sorry about the weather last night and I hope that your cardio workout went well this morning. Weight loss and gain are really weird. In fact I got a line from another mailing list that may be of interest. The article was from a recent MedicineNet.com bulletin entitled Weighing In on Scales: Find Your True Weight (http://www.medicinenet.com/guide.asp?s=nl&k=fwm0505&a=46824) - it confirmed a lot of things I already "preach" and it's nice to see information from professionals that goes along with my gut instincts.
Another run today - I just can't pass up fantastic weather. Temps in the middle 60 with a fresh breeze off the bay (read cool). Did just under an hour (but I forgot to start my watch at the beginning) and felt wonderful. I need to go and start wrapping up so I can head home. Here's to a great Tuesday and remaining fantastic week.
Peace,
Les

This will be short as I've already taken my codeine dose for the night.
Codeine is freaky stuff, as I found out last night. I went to bed early last night, and when DF joined me, I launched into a rambling discussion of whether he wanted to be on my health insurance policy once we got married because I have dental and he doesn't. All I really remember from that is him saying repeatedly, "honey, we'll talk about it tomorrow, okay? No really, tomorrow. We don't have to talk about this now..." And I continued discussing things while asleep, quite loudly apparently. Woke up grumpy because a grumpy DF yelled at me to be quiet in the middle of the night.
Oh well. He's out of town tonight so no one to enjoy my high but me. This bronchitis is kicking my butt so I'm trotting off to bed now, at the ripe hour of 7:45 pm.
Night all!

Sorry about that. Codeine almost sounds like my experience with Percocet (more later). Sorry neither of you slept well - funny thing about major depressants like codeine etc. they don't always make you sleep well - sleep yes, sleep well maybe. Sleep sounds like the thing you need to knock the bronchitis out so listen to your body and enjoy your rest.
My Percocet story (actually LWs but it's about me). I had two wisdom teeth pulled many years ago. The dentist prescribed Percocet to relieve the pain. Anyway, I took two (as ordered) and proceeded to lay on the bed for about 6 hours babbling. Kathy like to say that she's now met a blithering idiot - me on Percocet. The funny thing is she said the conversations weren't about anything in general nor were they that coherent - but they were VERY verbal and downright humorous. Glad I take a joke so well.
I hope to hear good news from Sarah and where is Karen? It's not like her to miss an evening. ;) No more news from me regardless. Now listening to my "mom" I'm headed to bed.
Until morning - peace,

I'm still here! Just a busy evening with the kids yesterday, and DH gone all night at a business mtg. I took DS#1(along with the others) to the orthodontist yesterday after school. Then for some cheap entertainment, the kids wanted to see what a car wash was all about!;) So we officially washed the winter off my minivan, and the kids were entertained. After dinner, homework, and playing outside, we read lots and lots of books before bed so I was pooped. Each of the kids wanted a different book last night, so I read a seperate one for each of them, put them to bed, mellowed out in front of the TV for an hour, had my nightly bowl of cereal and hit the hay by 9:30 pm!! Not quite as early as Leah, but then I did not have a bronchitis/codeine high excuse! Anyway, I did have fun with DD's class yesterday and also got in a nice bike ride in addition to my swim.
I 've already done my swim this morning. A very good one, too. The pool is quiet again this week, but the water temp. is cooler(but not in a bad way). It was getting too warm there for awhile, so now I'm more comfortable. It's the older folks that start to complain with these temps. You just can't pleae 'em all! Later this morning I'm going to kickboxing.
Leah-Sending you anti-bronchitic thoughts!!!!!:D :D I've been known to be the "blithering idiot" on meds, too. Is that some indication of our disinhibited side/personality???
Sarah-Can't wait to hear how things went with the house! Let us know when you can. And congratulations on the weight loss. That's fabulous!
Les-Interesting article. DH and I have solved this scale dilemma by not owning one, and avoiding them altogether. He weighs himself at work periodically if he's curious. I get weighed once a year at my lady doctor visit. Periodically, I say maybe we should buy one, but unless weighty issues become a problem for me, I'd rather keep it out of the house....nothing to mess up DD when she hits those critical preteen/teen years(I hope). Besides, if necessary, they have a scale at the YMCA.
Hope everyone's day is a good one! It's hump day!

Karen - Wow! I hope someday Ella finds the carwash that entertaining, right now she hates it!
Les - Still got to get over the find your true weight, looks interesting. Wish I had gotten outside for a run in the wonderful weather, storms today so it was a gym day for me.
Leah - I'm a babbling idiot on codeine as well - gee, something else we have in common;). Get well!
The house offer was less than we are willing to go so we're working on our counter offer. We have more people coming to look at the house tomorrow so I'm not to worried, but would also like to put this all behind me.
This morning was a lifting day. I tell you, I'm just do the motions and really not into anything right now. The 25K is this weekend (storms predicted:() and then I might take all of next week off just to refocus my workouts and new goals.
Have my post-Cinco de Mayo Supperclub tonight, can't wait to eat;).

Sorry about the house offer but you sound positive about progress in other areas so that's good. I hope the next offer is more in line with you asking price. Personally I'd not lift within a week of any race that I've trained to do well at (as opposed to one that just happens to be on the schedule as I'm building for my "final" race.). I'd concentrate on getting to and through the 25k then worry about other workouts next week or the following.
Healing prayers for the "codeine lady" as the big day approaches.
I had a decent bike ride today after work - that seems to be my MO for after work workouts in the summer. If I go out midday then I run but if I go out in the evening I ride - but I can't complain yet. And it was looking at mid-80s aparent temp when I started at 6:20... now that's more like the Norfolk I've come to know and love.
Wonder how Karen fared today too... I think all the news that's fit to print so off to bed for another exciting day.

No workout this morning, and boy was I bummed. I set the alarm but forget to turn it on:o. I woke up at 6:20, just in time for DH to hit the showers and make it work on time. I really wanted to have a nice slow run in today and chit chat w/ the other going to the race on Sat so we could figure out our car pool plan - oh well.
I actually have been feeling pretty awful for about a week and a half and just can't seem to shake it, so maybe it's for the better. I'm still very conjested and have no appetite, must be where the 7 pounds went.
Dropping of our counter offer tonight, send good vibes our way.

I'm going to try to make this brief tonight as I am nursing a doozy of a sore throat....Sarah and Leah must be virtually spreading the joy!:( Anyway, I did get in a good swim this morning and a good kickboxing class, but then my energy level took a nose dive. I made it to Costco to pick up some chicken for the weekend to roast(the in-laws are coming, and unfortunately right about now I DON'T feel like cooking!). I wanted to get strawberries as well for shortcake, but they had none:( . I'll try again tomorrow as I have to go out to get the rest of the food for dinner(potatoes, corn, salad veggies etc. ) Let's hope my throat does not morph into a major head cold, so I can enjoy the weekend company, too.:(
Enough of being a downer....
Sarah-Sending positive house selling vibes your way!
Leah-more antibronchitis vibes to you!
Les-Sending you anti-germ vibes so you don't come down with this virtually contagious entity, too!:D

Thank you Karen for the anti-germ vibes - that's all I need right now, to get sick. I'm fighting enough of the pollen etc. right now that I'd be less than amused to get really sick too. I'll try to figure out how to put up a virtual barrier to stop the flow of germs into the healthful living thread. Good that you got your workouts in before you started feeling under the weather. And I hope you find Strawberries for this weekend.
Sarah - Positive thoughts for an accepted counter fooer and getting healthy before your race this weekend.
And to Leah the blushing bride to be... I hope your codeine is doing the trick and letting you heal up.
I followed my MO for the day -- I didn't get out at lunch and in reality I didn't want to do anything when I got home except veg but I did get a 45 minute bike ride in. It was weird, I spent most of the time riding back and forth on in my neighborhood (strees run East-West and dead end into the water on both sides) and the whole neighborhood is bordered on the north by a river so it was pretty amazing to get almost 5 miles in without leaving the neighborhood. I was happy to get the ride in and now I'm looking forward to probably resting tomorrow - even though Saturday won't be that difficult (as long as I avoid the trees this time ;) ).
I guess that sums up my day and evening - busy week all around but I think we can almost declare it a done deal. So until tomorrow and Friday!
Peace,
Les

Sniffle. Sniffle. Cough.
Sick one checking in. Am still waiting for these antibiotics to fully kick in and heal me. :( It's been kind of a yucky week of feeling like crap. And it's really put a damper on my diet and exercise goals of the week - I've squeaked in workouts Wednesday and Thursday but am definitely not feeling svelte and excited about next week. I'm excited, but kind of sad that my body just doesn't seem to want to be teeny. Oh well. Must stop looking at bridal web sites and bridal magazines with teeny tiny women in them because clearly it's given me a complex.
Checking in early this morning before I head in to work, hopefully to get more accomplished than I have so far this week. Work motivation has been in the toilet, as being productive does not seem to go well with blowing my nose and coughing every five minutes. Blick.
Whine, whine, whine. Sorry.
Hope everyone has a nice Friday.

I'm still not feeling 100%, seem to change with the hour. Got in 45 minutes of light elliptical work in this morning. I'm planning on doing the 25K tomorrow, hoping the storms that are predicted come after the race.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and are feeling better by monday!

Hi all.
Still here.... amidst chaos and boxes. Moving is really... awful. Blegh.
I'm off from work today, went to my new school this morning to sign a contract and do fun paperwork. It was fun to go knowing I'll be working there (as opposed to interviewing) and its something to look forward.
I'm still getting my early morning workouts in... although I did turn off the alarm today. :) It was too early! But I'm pretty proud of that... with all that's going on right now I feel achieving 4-5 workouts a week is quite an accomplishment!
Really not much going on - packing and work is keeping me busy/exhausted. Hope everyone under the weather feels better soon, Enjoy the counting down Leah and definitely put away the magazines! You'll be a beautiful bride.

Well, the sore throat is persisting today, and my head is beginning to feel full, so it looks like a spring "bug" is blossoming.:( Anyway, a good swim helped a little this morning, and I rode my bike a tad over 10 miles after breakfast to try to get my gears in motion. Then I went out in search of strawberries for Sunday's dessert(hopefully my tastebuds won't take a vacation, too, with this crud!:( ). Anyhow, strawberries were either nowhere to be found or way too expensive. Not sure why??? But I'm going to dessert plan B for Sunday. Also corn on cob was icky looking and expensive this week, too so we are also implementing side dish plan B for Sunday's dinner with the in-laws(I'd personally rather just make reservations this time around, but MIL prefers to have me cook). Besides DS#2 has a b-day pty. that evening, so I guess staying in might work out for the best.
Weekend will be biking/abs/weights for me provided my head is not too full etc... Saturday I'm going to have to do some baking for Sunday. DD has a b-day pty. Sat., and DS#2 has one on Sun. The boys also have Tae Kwon Do which they missed last week, so we'll go this weekend. DD will have to miss swimming, however, because of the b-day pty. Today I booked parties for both DD's b-day and DS#2's b-day at one of those "play" places, so I have to compile the guest lists and get those balls rolling. Especially for DS#2 since his will be mid-June; DD's in July.
Sarah-Good luck this weekend!
Leah-Feel better soon!!
Heather-Congrats on the contract signing, and getting in those workouts. Good luck on the move.
Les-Wishing you a good Sat. run with no tree stubs, branches, rocks, or any other hazardous trail debris.
Have a good weekend everyone,
Karen

Just popping back in to gloat. After 2 years on the boards I've finally figured out how to give myself an avatar. Yippee!
Now off to shower and cough some more. Happy weekend all. :)

Woo Hoo! Leah, you're one up on me. I still haven't figured out how to give myself an avatar but I haven't put that much thought to it either. I second Heather too, you need to put those magazines down. It sounds like you are feeling a little better today which is a good thing. I hope your weekend isn't too stressful and that you have a great remaining few days before jetting off to your wedding. Did you find anyone to walk you down the aisle?
I think moving, especially at the end of the school year is always hard Heather. But you sound like you're on top of it and it hasn't put you in too funky a mood. It must feel nice to know where you'll be teaching next year - especially in this day and age. I hope you enjoyed your sleep in day too.
And a good albeit tired report from Karen again this week. I bet the prices on fresh produce are being driven by (1) lots of rain in places that the veggies grow and (2) the cost of gas. It will be good to have a back up plan because I bet you're going to have troubles locating good and low priced produce this early in the season. Two birthday's this summer - you're truly a trooper. I hope your weekend is as sane as it can be.
Now for my attempt of the evening - I'm going to try and post an image in this post...
My football picture (http://www.snapfish.com/viewsharedphoto/p=177131116040763870/l=48158008/cobrandOid=1000111/otsc=SYE/otsi=****)
...Drat it didn't work and I need to move on so I'll go with something I know.
Folks had asked about what I looked like before -- and this is a picture I use as an object lesson at work. I'll have to give you that picture was taken in Sept/Oct 1980 and I did have a cast on my right leg from the top of my ankle to the top of my thigh.
Back to the regularly scheduled thread. I rested today in preparation for some sort of workout in the morning. I'll run at least 12 miles and may ride my bike for some number of more miles. Luckily no wind or rain predicted this evening so... maybe no trees down on the trail. :D
Until morning folks - have a good weekend.
Peace,
Les

LOVE THE PICTURE, LES!!!!!!!!
And that facial hair!!!! What a man!:D
Sore throat is gone, but head is full now. However, taste buds are still functioning!!! 'Cause heaven forbid I could not eat!!! In my book, that is a crisis! I LOVE to eat!!! Anyway biked 10 miles this morning and did some abs but no weights....still not feeling 100%. Fortunately this seems like a mild head cold so far, but a nuisance nonetheless. DD had a blast at her b-day party. She came home with a bag AND a face full of "play" makeup(looks like $.10 woman of the night :p ). But she is having fun, and I love that she is so "girly." I mean I grew up with three brothers, and she has 2 brothers, so the girlishness is a refreshing change! Anyway, cakes are baked, chicken is marinating, so I'm in good shape for the in-laws tomorrow. They are due at or a little after noon, so I'll bike in the morning.
Happy Sunday to all!

Aw - shucks. :o Now you've gone and done it. Not bad for a 17 yo kid huh?

Sorry the sore throat has precipitated into a stuffed head. Luckily your tastebuds are still hanging in there. :D I hear you about the girlish daughter. I'm sure my mother was very happy that my sister was not a tomboy considering she had two older (6 and 8 years older) brothers who didn't spare her anything - nothing permanent but still... I hope you have a good time tomorrow with in-laws. What did you come up with for dessert and sides? Inquiring minds want to know.
A good day for me workout wise. I ran 12 miles this morning at the trail without issue or incident. In fact the Virginia State Parks Department went so far as to cut up that nasty tree - boy was it big. After my run I ended up doing 9 miles on my bike shepherding the remaining runners in. Later I rode a little more (about 7 miles) to LWs work so we could leave from there for our date (needed to go shopping for gag gifts for my bosses departure). The date went well - a good dinner at Ruby Tuesday's but the shopping was a bust. It seems the K-Bee Toys at that mall was closed when they remodeled this past year (tells you how often I go there  ).
Other than that, I'm thrilled that the weather held out today - no rain so I could get a lot of yard work done between rides.
I guess that'll be a wrap for me for the week - on to next week and a new thread.
Peace,
Les
