View Full Version : ISO: Old Recipe from Bon Appetit

Now I promise this won't become a habit, after all this IS a Cooking Light BB! However, I have lost a favorite old recipe from way, way back in Bon Appetit.
It was a recipe for homemade rolls, perhaps egg rolls with sesame seeds sprinkled over the top. You made the dough then put the rolls in a round pan, set it on a rack over a pan of boiling water and covered with a towel. The point of this was for quicker rising time.
These were so easy and delicious, and I have searched high and low for my clipping. Now that I have MasterCook, I'm getting my recipes SO organized!
If anyone has this, please PLEASE share!

I have a lot of older Bon Appetit magazines, do you know generally when it was from? I could look if you gave me the general time frame. Have you tried their recipe finder?

Hi Laura, thanks for the quick reply! You aren't going to believe this, but I think I can only narrow it down from '81 to '86...I used to subscribe when I was first married and clipped this recipe. It was so good and it was one of those "never fail" recipes.
I have posted in the Epicurious bulletin board and have searched allrecipes.com, Arielle's Recipe Archives, and the Kitchenlink site.
Thanks a million for even offering to look into this. I know it's a tough request!

Ummm...you know what??
I was just looking at my collection...of cookbooks and such...and I think this recipe may have come from Cooking Light! I have the March/April issue of 1990 (had one of my recipes in there!) and I'm beginning to think it was in the Recipe Exchange (reader's recipes) during that time period.
Does anybody know if I can access CL Indexes from, say, '88 to '90?

Hmmmm..... I am not sure mine go that far back. I will try and look this weekend and will let you know if I find anything.

I know, it's a stretch, but thanks for your efforts. I may contact Cooking Light and see if they have any way to find a recipe from 12 years ago!
Wow...that was weird. I just got a message that says:
Sorry, we have flood-control activated. You cannot post within 60 seconds of your last post (or something to that effect). Never saw that before!

I have the CL Annual Recipes cookbooks from 1986, 1987 and 1988. Checked them all, but no recipe like you described. I didn't start getting the magazine again until around '93; I'll try to check some of my newer old CLs. Good luck!

Barbara, thanks so much for your efforts. I would have sworn it would be in 86 through 88. Well, we are narrowing it down! Thanks again.

A note about this message:

There are people out there, who believe it or not, would possibly want to ruin our boards with spam, commercials, ads, etc. The system they usually use sends a barrage of messages out all at once. Flood-control (as you saw) stops people from posting more than one post per minute which combats those spam attacks that would be quite annoying to our users.

Makes sense to me! Thanks for the explanation. We certainly don't need any spammers 'round here! =^..^=

Mamasue! Yes, yes, yes, it's me! I'm on my way there soon. She said she had one that was SIMILAR to the one I requested. I still need to contact CL and ask them if they keep records of recipes from old past issues. Old like maybe 15 years ago??
Thanks for reminding me!
