. . . for Mother's day!

That's all -- just wanted to share my excitement, and I think this is the only group I know that would understand. My husband said he wants a note from me to show to all the people who will give him a hard time for buying me a kitchen appliance for Mother's Day http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Yay!!! This thing is too awesome to be considered an appliance - I don't think an excuse note will be necessary!!! My family laughed when I named it (Bea seemed fitting - cobalt blue, and boy is she a beauty); but when my sister-in-law calls to borrow it, she refers to it by name!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Congratulations and enjoy!!!

Hurray! You will love it! I received mine as a gift from DH too. I couldn't function in the kitchen without it. Gaye

Congratulations! Enjoy it and all the wonderful things you will make using it! I love mine ... my mil has had hers since she got married over 35 years ago... they last forever and are soooo worth the price!

And, while I don't think a note is needed, my dh would probably want one if he bought be something for the kitchen for any occasion!

OH NO! Now I am thinking I might have to buy myself one for Mother's Day. It's as good of an excuse as any and I can always say it's from "the boys". Did I forget to mention "the boys" are my two horses? (I think I've sufficiently justified such a purchase) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

GREAT!!! If you are like me, you will want to non-stop bake for the first few days. I was like the lady on a Lowe's commercial that was baking and cooking from all the appliances she bought - her kids were refusing to lick the beaters. LOL http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif I love it, and although I don't use it all that much, when I do, I am PROUD to have it. When DH asked me where I was going to store it, I told him it was sitting on the counter. When you pay that kind of money, you don't hide it. I have the 6 qt Epicurian. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Congrats, Clairea! I have the 4 1/2 QT in cobablt blue and love it. It's such workhorse and can do all the baking work that you need, from light to heavy. It has definitely helped me to become a better baker.

Either that, or he wants all the treats he knows I will make with it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone. I knew this is the one place where people would understand my excitement. I am getting the 4 1/2 quart Ultra Power, which is what it seems like a lot of people on this board have.

Ooo ... you'll love it! I got mine for Valentine's Day -- kind of payback for giving birth to my first child a month or so earlier.
Mine is cobalt blue but now that they came out with red, I really wish I had that one. Unfortunately, I've heard they never break, so it'll be unlikely I'll ever get the red one.

What color does everyone have/getting?
I saw that Martha had a silver? one. I am waffling on colors, since it will be on the countertop!

I agree..its not an appliance...a vaccuum is an appliance! A Kitchenaid is JEWELRY!

Can a kitchenaid mix a really stiff dough?

Mine is Onyx Black. Although I don't keep it on my countertop, it does match my coffee pot, oven and dishwasher doors so I feel coordinated while I'm baking (at least my surroundings are coordinated). I love mine especially for mixing bread dough.

I must warn all of you (especially Blue Moose), it does well kneading most dough, but last December, I was using King Arthur Sir Lancelot Hi-Gluten flour. As it was kneading, the dough hook just broke in two. I had never seen anything like it. That hook and mixer are so powerful, I was shocked. I had used it nearly every week without this problem.

Also, I had a hard time getting the bowl out after kneading a stiff dough, but I resolved that by using a dab of vegetable oil on the bottom of the bowl. It works great kneading with any other flour (even bread flours) and as a mixer.

Mine is a 5 quart, and it is white. A friend of mine gave it to me as a gift, and originally gave me a 4-1/2 qt. in hunter green (the color of my kitcen). But I know very well those mixers last a lifetime (and then some), and well, I just didn't know if I would still love hunter green 20 years from now! (Remember mustard? and orange? ewww). So I traded it in (and up) for a white 5 quart. I am so thrilled with it. My cabinets are white, and so are the rest of my appliances, so it looks beautiful on the countertop (which is hunter green/purple marble-y speckled).

And AD, I think that was a very unusual experience you had with your dough hook. A KitchenAid is made especially for very heavy doughs, etc., so that must have been a fluke. I hope KitchenAid replaced the dough hook for you!

This is funny! Before my BF got me my forest green one (just like Emeril) for Christmas, whenever I saw one, I would tell him that it is as good as if not better than jewelry. Have fun, you will love it! I have not yet made bread yet.

AD, that was a weird thing to have happen, maybe the speed was a little too high. Regardless, I'm with Grace and hope that KitchenAid replaced it.

Mine is white, but I really wanted a black one. However, I got my 6 qt for $70 off due to a coupon, and they only had white. I was not going to go elsewhere and pay full retail for a black one.

What fun! Mine is almond, and I love it. I've been keeping track in my cookbooks of many recipes I can double, triple, and quadruple in the KitchenAid for holiday baking. What a godsend!

One warning - I tried making pasta dough one time, using the recipe that came with the extruder attachment. It was too stiff, and I burned out part of the motor. Devastating! (I haven't made pasta dough since then, and that was years ago...) After repairs, it now works great on every setting but "Stir", so I use the shield a lot to keep the flour from dusting my kitchen.

Just wondering, what attachments are you folks fond of?

Question: How much difference is there from the KitchenAid Mixer to the Braun multi-food processor & Cuisinart Processor? I have both (the cuisinart is ancient) I am hearing this is very powerful - I make 'batches' of dog food at least 2 - 3 times a week - right now the Braun will only hold the veggies which consist of 1 large sweet potatoe, 1-2 cups greens, 2 applies, 2 cups water - and it's about 2 inches from the top - what do you think. How much US $$ are these things?
Thanks for any input - Elaine http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I almost forgot - I have a Sunbeam MixMaster as well - what attachements does the KitchenAid come with?

Have located a model #KSM90BGH Black - at $379.00 cdn. - think it is called the "Professional" - what is the difference between the "Epicurian" and the "P"? Just out of curiosity - what exactly do you all use this mixer for - I have an old one - much smaller and would only use it for cakes, cookies????? Just curious as I am seriously contemplating purchasing one tomorrow. Thanks. Elaine http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Lanie, the Epicurian is a 6 qt model, and much stronger motor. I bought it only because I figured I would never need to purchase another again. I have a Sunbeam, but I don't dare call it a mixer (it's a toy, I think). http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Anyway, go to www.kitchenaid.com (http://www.kitchenaid.com) to find out all about the mixers. I don't think that 6 qt is available in Canada, because my sister has been wanting one and it wasn't on the "Canadian site" last time she looked. I got mine on sale for abot $280 US, regular $350, so it was a steal, I think.

I use my mixer for anything you would use a mixer for. I was afraid it would be too strong for small jobs, but it works wonderful. KA mixers mix faster than other brands too.

Hi FB! Having run all avenues of my exploring - Caynes has a 5 Qt. Professional, 350 watt motor (white) on sale for $369.99 (you are right - no 6 Qt. HERE) - the 'chopping' attachment is I believe $89.99. For your sister's info go to: www.cayneshousewares.com (http://www.cayneshousewares.com) - they seem to have quite a collection. There is also a black for $10.00 less ????? - prefer that but they are not stating a 'difference' will go there today. Thanks for all the information. Sorry if I seem a bit 'challenged' but I have so many appliances even the 'toy' sunbeam - and definitely is a toy compared to this, that my pantry is pretty much full and screams at me everytime I open the doors.
Thanks, Elaine http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
