I know there have been zillions of similar threads, but I have no idea how to search for them efficiently, so please indulge me if you can: A friend of mine in the UK wants to send a gift of cookies or other baked goods to a client in Southern California and is looking for a no-fail source in the U.S. She doesn't have a lot of parameters, mostly that they have to be delicious and make a nice "thank you" gift. Suggestions?

These were featured on Food Network. They are gigantic cookies and they are very good (I'm picky about my cookies and I thought they were great). I've ordered from them twice with no problems.

Carol's Cookies (http://www.carolscookies.com/)

Yummy!

Another one featured on FoodTV awhile back ... www.matthews1812house.com. They started the business to be able to stay at home with their kids. Brownies are excellent.

I sent a box of Jacques Torres chocolates (Jacques Assortment) as a "thank you" that went over quite well.

I'll second the Carol's Cookies. I haven't ever ordered them, but I bought a couple different flavors to try while I was in Chicago and they are delicious! And GINORMOUS!!

I love Baker's Breakfast Cookies! The fruit and nut flavor is wonderful. I see them out and about at coffee carts- but I order a case from time to time to pass out to friends and neighbors and keep some in the freezer

Snookies are great - they even deliver cookies with ice cold milk (in Southern Cal where they hand deliver).

Thank you - I love this!! I have now just added a bookmark folder next to my Foodie Sites called "Foodie Mail Order" and copied all these sites. This will be wonderful for my special foodie type friends:D

We received some Dancing Deer Baking Company cookies for Christmas a couple of years ago, and they were super yummy, similar to really good homemade. (Ours were purchased through Williams Sonoma, but I looked up Dancingdeer.com, and they send cookie packages like you want. The packaging was a silver tin with nice modern graphics, looked substantial and upscale, and the cookies were in good shape.)

The Dancing Deer cookies are yummy! I hadn't thought about those as being mail-order because when I lived in MA I used to buy them at Whole Foods. They're very "pretty" cookies, too, if you're looking to impress with appearance as well as taste.

Not cookies, but I ordered a cheesecake for my mom for Mother's Day from Eli's (www.elicheesecake.com) as per a suggestion posted on this bulletin board. It was the Caramel-Nougat with Snickers cheesecake and my mom said it was devine. She said it arrived packed in dry ice and held up perfectly in shipping. She was very impressed!

OMG, I want the cheesecake featured on their homepage!! I'll be someone's good client for that! :D
Thanks a million, everyone, for the suggestions so far (and keep 'em coming) -- I'm sure my friend will be thrilled to have so many good options. I told her that even though I haven't tried the companies myself, the recommendations are on good authority!

I'm sorry to interrupt the email thread here but I am fairly new to this and don't understand all the abbreviations. Could someone give me a quick dictionary on all the terms used thruout these threads, like ISO and DH and IMHO?
Thanks so much.

Thanks so much. Of course they now seem so obvious and I feel like a total schnook but I just couldn't figure them out w/in the context of what I was reading. I'm sure I will come across more.
Thanks again!

There's a few past threads, if you click the small purple search button above you can search for them. Here's a link to a search on the word abbreviations:

Oprah featured this cake (Florida Key Lime Cake) on her "Favorite Things" episode in 2004:
http://www.wetakethecake.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=28

I thought it looked soooo good - tried to order one for my birthday in December but they weren't accepting orders for some time after the show aired - couldn't keep up with the demand! I need to find a reason to order this cake for myself now - Memorial Day, maybe? :D

There are other cakes on this same site that look good too!

I've had fantastic results with Very Vera (http://www.veryvera.com/index.asp) -- they're located in Augusta, Georgia and make the tastiest and most impressively packaged poundcakes, layer cakes, pecan sandies, and other gourmet goodies.

This is my favorite place to order cakes and goodies for friends who have just had babies -- if I lived any closer, I'd bake a cake and deliver it myself! But if there's any sort of distance involved, Very Vera does the trick. (My personal favorite: the lemon layer cake -- ohhh so good!)

Their customer service reps are also very nice to deal with -- I had a billing problem and they straightened it out cheerfully and efficiently.

(My dad adores these folks, he's practically on a first name basis with them!)

Cheryl & Company (http://www.cherylandco.com/?rfr=11172004&engine=adwords!2397&keyword=%28cheryl+company%29&match_type=) is another company that was featured on FoodTV a couple of years ago and that I have used a few times for gifts.
