I came to a shocking conclusion yesterday. I quit smoking 7 months ago and yesterday was almost as hard as the 1st day!! I could'nt get onto this site all day and my craving to smoke was so bad that I realized I must subconsiously(sp?) use the BB to help with the cravings ( besides loving it for the wonderful people and advice of course http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif) So please, oh please, CL, never have problems again, my sanity depends on you!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif LOL

Fingers and mouths busy my friend, that's what it takes! Worked for me! Keep it up!
Sure thing. Stick with us and we'll have you drinking instead of smoking in no time flat!

Erin,
Its been 2 1/2 years since I stopped smoking and 3 years for DH. I will tell you what helped us get through it. Now don't laugh! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif When we had a big urge for a smoke we would have a cigar handy and just take a puff....don't inhale....just a puff or two helped curve that urge. We did this for about a month then the need was not there any more. We got through it finally after so many times trying to quit. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif We are smoke free and glad of it. Our noses are very sensitive to the smell now and we can smell a smoker a mile away. Of course I gained 25 pounds and hubby maybe about 10. But the doctor said she would rather see the weight gain then the smoking. Good Luck and DON'T GIVE UP! Drink a lot of water and eat fruit too.

Erin,
Crosswards became the thing I needed something to distract me. Once I started thinking about it, I would become so obsessed
that I couldnt think of anything else I needed some kind of distraction.
Although had I had the BB 10 years ago when I quit I might have been tempted to go for Gail's suggestion ALCHOL!!
I cant believe I still crave a cigarette today, especially when I'm on the phone.
Hang in there!!!

How the heck do you guys not crave a smoke when you drink?!?!(that is if you are an ex-smoker) I love my beer and wine but it's a sure way to kick in the need to puff away for me. O.K., NOW I WANT A BEER!! (sorry for shouting)
Thanks to all for the support and ideas.

Erin- It has been 11 years for me, my last one was the my wedding day, hadn't smoked for 7 months and had my last one then. DH said he wouldn't marry me if I didn't quit, and he meant it!! I agree that there are certain times and activities that "stimulate" the urge to smoke- I had to stay away from my smoking friends for a short time- fortunately I told them ahead of time that I was out of commission for a while. Not a day goes by that I still don't miss it! I smoked two packs a day AND ran 2 miles a day!! Go figure. At least I know my lungs are much clearer today!! Keep up the GREAT Job!!

Today is 11 days since my last cigarette. I've been a light smoker for more than 15 years- more than half my life, gross! Amazingly, it hasn't been as hard as I thought, especially since I have been working out 4-5 times a week, I think that is helping.
However, today I went to the Inman Park Festival in Atlanta, lots of arts and crafts, jewelry, etc, and I was at a booth with some interesting stuff, and I bumped into an easel with a framed print on it and I knocked it over and the glass shattered.
I had to pay for it, almost $200 after negotiating.
I really wanted a cigarette then. I was really upset. The print was not even secured to the easel or anything!! And I realized that I hadn't really craved one that bad since I quit. Even when I have had a couple of cocktails. I wish I knew why I am not craving so bad, but I bet the 20 or so pieces of gum I am chewing every day helps. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Dana...$200 ouch!!! I hope you at least like the print. I know that stress is a sure way for a need to smoke, I'm sure your work outs help a great deal with this. Are you chewing the nicotine gum or just regular gum? The nicotine gum upset my stomach a lot so I stopped using it. Keep it up though and most of all keep busy. Being bored is the worst time for me. I also have smoked more than half my lifetime and although everyone says the craving never goes away, at least I'll still be around to find out!!

I've been smoke free for about six months and have never felt better! I agree with the nose being more sensitive to smoke - I can smell it from a mile away. By the way, pen caps are my replacement (I know, not a very attractive habit either). I gnaw on pen caps all day long. Whatever works!
