All right, technical geniuses, I need help.

Up until yesterday, if I wanted to open 2 Explorer windows (like Mapquest in one and the venue I want to go to in the other), I could do it. Today, I can't. If I click a hotlink, it sends me, but not in a new window  I installed Yahoo IM. That must be what the problem is. How to fix it??

Sarah,

Try this:
Inside of IE, click Tools | Internet Options
Click the Advanced tab
Uncheck Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts (under the Browsing heading)

Does that change it back?

No Mary, it didn't. Thanks.

I've sent an email to Yahoo.

Any other suggestions?

You should be able to right click and select "Open link in new window" provided you are wanting to open a link in a new window.

Whether or not a link opens a new window or not is programmed into the link itself. As AD said, though, you can always right-click on the link and CHOOSE to send the target to a new window.

Even when I select open in new window, it closes the other window.

I think I may try my ISP tech support.

Thanks! Keep the suggestions coming!

Another thing that affects "new window" is pop-up blockers -- pop-ups are, after all, new iterations of the browser. If you installed a Yahoo toolbar, then it might come with a pop-up blocker that needs to be turned off.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. It's started working again  I've no idea what I did, but maybe I won't do it again :)
