I found a recipe for Sweet Potato Cake in one of the annuals. It is also in the recipe finder. It calls for a can of unsweeted sweet potatoes. I have searched but cannot find any such product. All I can find are cans of sweet potatoes in syrup. One of the reviewers in the recipe finder said that the cake didn't work with fresh sweet potatoes. At any rate, this sounds like the perfect product for a sweet potato fiend like me, when the real deal is looking bad in the produce section.

Has anyone seen this on the shelves? If so, where do you live? It might be a regional thing.

I am in MN (next to Fargo) and get them here. They are called vacuum packed. I love them for use in muffins, etc.

I find sweet potatoes canned in syrup to be absolutely vile. I don't know that rinsing them would take all that yuckiness out.

I wonder why the fresh sweet potatoes didn't work for this recipe. It seems that if you bake them until they are tender but still firm and then cool them. It would be ok. I haven't seen the recipe so maybe I am totally off base here.
