I am making the chicken biscuit stew and was wondering if I could use turkey instead of chicken. Will it taste strange or be okay? I could whip up some chicken but I would need to do it quickly. I was hoping to just use left over turkey cutlets.
Thanks much!

Because you said you needed help quickly I thought I'd respond. I can't remember if I have made that particular recipe but many times if I substitute turkey for chicken and there's any kind of liquid mixture, I'll add some chicken bullion (Spelling ?) to the liquid. Just thought that might help in some way.

Thanks, Elizabeth. The recipe actually calls for chicken broth. Do you think that's enough to make it taste okay? How do your meals turn out when you substitute turkey for chicken? I appreciate the quick help! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I can't think of any time I've substituted turkey for chicken that hasn't been acceptable. You said this was a stew recipe, right? Why don't you put it together and taste the stew? If it doesn't taste "chickeny" enough for you, add some of the chicken bullion (I wish this had spellcheck)! I bet with the chicken broth you'll be fine.

I've never had any problems with substitutions! Turkey tends to be a little bit drier, so as long as it's in a liquid base and you don't overcook it I'd say you're fine. The chicken broth will help immensely! Be careful of the buillion, it can be very salty!
Anyone else have an opinion?

Jewel, thanks for bringing up the salt issue. I totally forgot about that.

No problem, I use either chicken or turkey in all poultry recipes.
Just finished a 15# fresh turkey from Pavillions (Safeway) Manorhouse brand.
You won't believe the price.....they had cases of fresh turkey that they thought would sell for Easter, but they didn't. So the blew them out at $5.00 each. Too big for my freezer, so I cooked it. Of course I gave half of it to my unmarried sons http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif!
