My daughter got an Easy Bake Oven for her birthday - the kind that cooks with a 100 watt light bulb. Though we cook together often, she does like to cook for us with "her" oven. The oven came with a couple of cake mixes which were pretty awful. I was wondering if anyone had any better alternatives. Besides being almost inedible, the Easy Bake replacement mixes are very expensive. Has anyone tried slice and bake cookies in one?
Thanks muchly.

My sister and I used to make regular brownie and cake mixes in our easy bake oven. (Just be forewarned, it makes a LOT of them, and you end up standing around "baking" for a long time!) But maybe you could somehow measure out half the mix or something, and cut the recipes in half. I just remember we had LOTS of brownies! It was one of my favorite toys ever. I know if I ever have kids, I'll be the one playing with it, not them! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Oh my you brought back memories! I didn't know they still had these things around (I don't have kids). I remember as a kid that I made some kind of cake and added WAY TOO MUCH salt. It was awful, but I remember my dad just smiling and telling me it was really good! LOL http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I had posted the same question on another BB, and believe it or not, there is a Web site which has Easy Bake Oven recipes. I'm at work now; later tonight I'll post the URL.

I had to laugh when I saw this thread. As I child, I always wanted an Easy-Bake Oven, but never had one. I mentioned this to my MIL recently, and a couple of weeks ago I came home and found a box addressed to me from Amazon on my front porch. Inside was -- you guessed it -- my very own Easy Bake Oven! I have two small children, so I am sharing it with them, but even with all my "grown-up" kitchen toys, I still have a ball using this. For me, it works out well that the mixes aren't good -- the kids don't mind (they eat it anyway) and that way I don't eat what we make http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

How cool, I didn't know that they made them anymore! I wanted one as a child but never got one. My Dad used to buy me the little baking sets with the cake mixes, pans, frostings, measuring spoons, etc. I loved them!

robinf - I ran a search on Google for "Easy Bake Oven Recipes" and came up with 17 pages worth of results (cakes, cookies, brownies, biscuits etc.). You might give that a try if none of the CL BBers have recipes to recommend.
My experience with an Easy Bake Oven was 30 years ago http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif but I can tell you those mixes were indeed awful. I used to make a cake every evening to present to my dad as he walked in from work.... he finally told my mom to STOP buying those cake mixes. (I was also impatient and the cakes were probably not fully cooked either!) Such fun memories!

I gave my granddaughter an Easy Bake for Christmas, so this thread caught my eye. I just did a search for Easy Bake Oven Recipes on google.com and came up with tons of them.

I have a 6 year old BOY who loves his Easy Bake. We also had to get the Baskin and Robbins ice cream maker for his birthday this spring. What I am looking for are ice cream recipes for this one. Any one have a clue?
I used to want one of those too! So, I live through my neices (I bought them one). http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif I did get to experience using one though growing up since a friend of mine had one. So I wasn't totally deprived! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Great timing! My 4-year-old son is getting one for his birthday (from my friend who is an ardent feminist and no doubt partially to bug my traditional husband). Anyway, I'm sure he'll love it. Glad for all those links!

OMG - I got one when I was five and I loved to cook in it. I can hardly wait until DD is old enough - three more years. Last weekend she was "helping" me roll out pizza dough on the counter.

I'm sorry for not responding sooner, I could not connect to this BB for the last two nights, but it looks like you got plenty of help. I'll have to check into some of these other URL's myself!
