View Full Version : Funny story
Well this isn't funny haha or anything but I had to share a little incident today.
As many of you know my DH is an artist. He painted wildlife very successfully for many years but a couple of years ago he started doing landscapes which have also been well received.
Anyway one painitng had been in the gallery a long time. Most of the paintings sell within a month but not this one.I think it hung on the wall for 7 months. Yesterday DH brought it home and we were going to keep it.
The gallery called an hour ago and said a guy from out of town had seen it on the website and came especially to the gallery today to look at it! Of course it wasn't there. I rushed it over and he bought it onthe spot!
Just kinda of strange...but in a good way!

HA! I love it!! Congratulations to Ron! I say take anything down that hasn't sold in a month.... :D Make it look like they're hard to come by..... :D
Thanks -it is just such a coincidence. This guy flew to Victoria from Calgary and came straight to the gallery to see that painting. No phone to call to see if it was available or anything. He was coming here to golf as well I should add.
Gallery owner said she is sure he will be buying more in the future.
And our car was in the shop so I had to walk to the gallery carrying this huge painting....well worth the effort though. :)
Definately will keep that strategy in mind.

You wouldn't want to share your dh's website with me, would you? I'd love to see his work.

Kima, cool story- and congratulations on the sale! You and your DH sound like you have a very interesting life!
You can check out some of his latest work at www.theavenuegallery.com
If you google Ron Parker wildlife artist you can see many many pics of his wildlife work.
Yes living with an artist is interesting- The income goes up and down which is the hard part for me as I am a born worrier!. I am very fortunate though in that Ron has always been at home so was an equal (and enthusiastic) partner in raising our daughters.
Many of my friends say they were very happy to see their husbands head off to work each day but we know no other way of living...my daughters now realize how lucky they were! They thought all dads were home all day!

Okay, I think I'm in love!
Oh I know, it's not right to say that(!), but I don't mean with your husband- just with his paintings!!! They really struck me. So beautiful!!! I can see why he is selling so well. You must be very proud of him.
BTW, I love art, but I'm a worrier too- I understand what you said about the ups and downs financially- I would feel the same way. Actually, I do, given my and my DH's current situation! But I digress. I truly can see how someone hopped on a plane to come buy a particular painting. Kudos to you and DH!!

I love Seabank at Dawn and Island at Dawn. Absolutely beautiful!
I'm with you on the living with an artist. It's a little less stressful for us, because we don't have kids.
We try to live just off of my income, and use his for extras (like dental work, glasses and entertainment). Then when he's out of work, we don't panic.
We live primarily off Ron's art. In the 80's the art market was insanely good so we were fortunate then.
We have been rich and we have been poor and yet we have always been happy no matter what. Neither of us are materialistic people- even when money poured in we lived exactly the way we do now (except we took three trips to Hawaii back then!). We have seen other wildlife artists spend lavishly on cars, jewellery etc,. only to have gone bankrupt when the market turned.
I should point that the Kluane painitng is no more- Ron wasn't happy with and has since removed the orange balls (Yuk) and the painting sold ages ago.
Thanks for your kind words-I'll pass them on to Ron! :)
