Well, we just got back from Cancun and had a fabulous time. The Moon Palace was beautiful and all inclusive, which was nice. Great pool and double jacuzzi! I was disappointed in the food, but we kept searching out the different restaurants and found some food that was decent. The best meal was breakfast. Great huevos rancheros!

I have to say that the trip to Chichen Itza was the highlight of the trip. Although it was a long ride (2+ hours), we had gotten up early and I slept much of the way (and didn't miss any view as it's all just green). They won't be allowing people to climb up "the big one" too much longer, so I'm glad we had the chance.

Although I didn't get Montezuma's revenge, I did find that I had some stomach problems (not sure why as all the water I drank was purified). Or maybe it was just all of that great fruit I ate!

Bought a book on Mexican food. I'll let you know if I make anything really good.

Anyway, it just took me forever to read over the past week's threads, so now I'm all caught up! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Welcome back. Sounds like you had a great trip.

We went to Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum, Playa,
Cozumel several years ago. Did you get to see the evening show at Chichen Itza? It was much larger than we anticipated. Surprised they are banning climbing on the "big one"--perhaps a concern with liability?

Ahh the Moon Palace - isn't it nice place - we went there a little over 2 years ago - it had just opened - great spot! Happy to hear you had a good time.

I'm laughing about the not letting people climb up the big one comment. The last time I went was probably 5 years ago and our guide said the exact same thing!! Maybe it's fear of liability from all the people that climb up and then have to come down on their butts.

They are stopping the climbing due to deterioration of the pyramid steps. We climbed both the inside pyramid and outside. Whew! It was over 100 degrees! We did not see the night show, although I did see pictures and it looked like it's beautiful.

Karen, we also laughed about "climbing the big one" when they mentioned it! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Too bad you missed the beautiful...Isla Cozumel(island of ...)!! Cancun is nice, but way over commercialized. We got back from a resort in Cozumel almost 2 weeks ago and had the most incredible food ever, including muscles every day, (I could list forever all the incredible food!!!)! I am sorry to hear your food wasn't too good! We had lobster, tons of seafood and everything else you could imagine as incredible, we loved it!!!!!!!!! Next time, try Cozumel!

Jeanne, we were in Cozumel 12 years ago for our honeymoon. Yes, it's lovely there. We went snorkeling and loved all the great fish there. I agree that Cancun is very commercialized. Fortunately The Moon Palace is far away from downtown. As for the food, I wish I'd seen some lobster! I made a real Mexican meal last night at home. It was much better than anything we had in Cancun! The recipes were from that Mexican book I brought back. When I have the time, I will post them.
