View Full Version : Turbo Diet 2nd Week Weigh In!

Well, week #2 is over and I'm trying REALLY hard not to be disappointed. I lost 3 lbs this week. I know I couldn't lose 10 lbs every week, I'd dry up and blow away from malnutrition, but seeing 3 lbs didn't fluff my panties enough to do the 'Naked Happy Dance' in the kitchen with my husband this morning. Sad thing, is I think he was waiting for it! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

Still, 2nd, 3rd and 4th week were supposed to net 2-5 lb results so I guess I'm right in the middle. This diet is SO much easier since I found the Balsamic Vinegar/Lemon Juice mixture to use as a Salad Dressing. It's something I'm going to use after this diet is over too! I can handle two more weeks on this thing, as long as the dressing holds out!

Had to go to the Thrift Store yesterday and buy a few new work tops since my old ones were getting baggy around my new waist ( http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif ) and I had to go to a party on Saturday and cook Mexican food for 12 people for four hours and I took my meals with me and didn't indulge...and that was hard since Mexican Food is my Drug Of Choice in my Food Addiction. The party was a reunion of the co-workers in my old job that ended in December and they hadn't seen me since my first surgery in January AND the 20 lb total weight loss since then. They were amazed! Someone remarked how I had cheekbones again! Guess that remark alone deserves a Naked Happy Dance, huh?? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif Two weeks and 13 lbs down at the halfway mark! Yippee!

Congratulations! That second week is always a disappointment after the first week. Keep up the good job!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I realize 3 pounds doesn't sound like much but just think, you've lost a total of 52 sticks of butter! That's pretty impressive! Hang in there.

Ummm.. 10 pounds a week sounds a little unhealthy. Three pounds a week is a lot of weight to lose. Most nutritionists only recommend losing about a pound a week for long term weight loss.

Not to rain on your parade, I wonder if this is a safe diet. Was this recommended by your physician?

Gaye, it is simply Balsamic Vinegar and Lemon Juice combined! I can't have sodium in ANY form (he shook his finger at me this morning for sprinkling my potatoes with low sodium chicken broth...) or sugar either, so it's just the two ingredients. I don't measure, but if you have an empty soy sauce bottle (with shaker top, that's what I'm making it in!) I fill nearly all the way to the neck with Balsamic Vinegar, then pour the lemon juice to fill the neck. Sometimes it's a bit too tart, but I just pour a bit out into a cup and use some more vinegar!

I am totally hooked on this dressing. I baked 8 chicken breasts yesterday to use for these salads! I shred 2 oz (about a half cup) of chicken into my salads, and with the new dressing, YUM! Totally refreshing with no aftertaste or oily residue. Jeez, I sound like a commercial! "It'll clear up that unsightly dandruff too!" ( http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif )

Jewel,
I read on your previous post that you welcomed any questions or comments - I hope that still stands.

I commend your weight loss and your adherence to such an awful diet. I just want you to think about a few things.

Most people can only lose 2 lbs of FAT per week (even with exercise), anything other that that is probably muscle and water. Since you are restricting salt and carbs you probably have lost a lot of stored water and carbohydrate. But, if you have lost only 3 lbs of muscle, that is 240 calories per day that you no longer burn. If you have your tummy tuck and resume your normal eating habits, that 240 calories x 365 days will be 87,600 calories that you can't burn in the next year. This equals 25 pounds of weight gain (3500 calories in a pound).

I point this out because this EXACT thing happened to one of my friends.

Lisa

Jewel -- Congratulations on your weight loss! I think that 13 pounds in the first 2 weeks is wonderful! Is the Balsamic Vinegar/Lemon Juice mixture simply those 2 ingredients, or is there something else in it? I am trying to lose weight also and really hate most low fat salad dressing. This sounds like a good alternative. Thanks. Gaye

Lisa, thanks for the feedback. I just wanted to point out that I am not restricted on all carbs. This is NOT a fad lowcarb diet. I have potatoes twice a day, sweet and russet. I eat apples, pears, green beans, asparagus, green salad at least twice a day, lean meats and most vegetables that aren't too sweet, like onions, peppers, tomatoes, etc. I'm just restricted from salts and added sugars, as well as dairy and processed foods. According to my doctor, this is probably the healthiest way I've eaten in 20 years! I'm actually a bit lactose intolerant, so taking dairy out of the picture has made a big difference!

I'm taking 1500 mg of calcium per day, as well as a good multivitamin and a Super B-Complex. I drink at least a half gallon of water per day, and I keep my blood sugar up eating every two hours or so.

I know that the first week the majority of that 10 lbs was water, but it made very little difference to me in ways of motivation. I feel better right now than I have in years. I'm exercising, cardio and weight training, and I have a lot of energy! I'm sleeping better, and I don't seem to tire as easily. I think a lot of that has to do with no dairy and no processed foods. At my former weight, which was 100 lbs heavier, I lived on processed foods. You couldn't get me to eat ANY veggies, rarely even corn and potatoes unless both were smothered in butter and/or gravy.

I also know that when I go back to my 'regular life' I can't go back to my old eating habits, and I also know that some weight might come back on. This has been a learning experience for me, and with a little help from an Angel or two I won't NEED to go back to the old habits because I'm finding I like the new ones too much! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Just wanted to explain that I know this isn't a lifestyle type eating plan. I think if I did stay on it for a few months it wouldn't be unhealthy, as long as I took my vitamins and supplements and was varied in my foods and nutrients. I just food too much to stay this way! It wasn't meant to be a way of eating for life, only for a short period of time. Thanks for your support though! I know you're meaning well, and I also know you're right about the muscle thing. That's why I'm being so careful. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

We are proud of your determination and your realization that this is a short term solution and wouldnt be healthy in the long run....some would be tempted to stay on it!

YEA!!!

Kim, there is NO chance of me staying on this program longer than I have to! Sure, I'm eating well and feeling good, but I'm being deprived of peanut butter, soy sauce, and my nonfat sour cream! Three of my favorite things in the world! The day my parents get here two days before my surgery is my last day 'officially' on the program, and once I have the surgery it's not like I'm going to be whipping up those Chipotle Chicken Enchiladas, although I'd love to... I'll probably stick with a lot of what I've learned, like eating salads with chicken and that yummy balsamic/lemon dressing, and eating small meals every few hours. Really makes a difference! Thanks for the cyber Atta-Girl! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Jewel, you are too funny! Keep up the good work, it won't be long now. Just think how your Naked Happy Dance will look after the tummy tuck. I'll be so jealous... my tummy will still be floppn' in the wind! (along with the backs of my arms, my behind... etc.)

Hang in there buddy...
