I am leaving Monday for a trip to Prague to visit my sister. I used frequent-flier miles to get the ticket and with all the layovers I will be traveling for nearly an entire day. Any ideas for healthy and tasty snacks to pack? I eat almost anything, except mayonnaise.

You can't go wrong with Pirate's Booty!! I also love the mini rice cakes or popcorn cakes. Satisfies sweet and crunchy or salty and crunchy depening on which flavor!

I'm also heavily into lean protein, so I always pack Beef Jerky in the convenient economy size! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Here's some ideas I found, watch out for the other passengers, you'd be amazed at what people on planes will do for food!

Vegetable sticks with a small container of salad dressing for dipping
Trail mix, cheese sticks, fortune cookies, dried fruit, fruit leather, nuts
tortillas chips with a small jar of salsa
small bags of popcorn
pudding
fruit yogurt
sunflower seeds
celery sticks filled with cream cheese or peanut butter and raisins
fresh fruit
pretzels
crackers-plain or sandwiched with peanut butter or cheese
yogurt-covered raisins
carob-coated raisins
granola bars

I sometimes pack a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, on toast so it won't get mushy, and cut into quarters so I can eat just a piece at a time.

I use natural peanut butter, of course http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif, and just a light smear of jam. What I really want during those extended trips is the bulk to fill me up, and the life-sustaining protein.

Cheers,
Phoebe

Dried fruit. I'm so into dried fruit right now. We have several kinds in bags in the cupboard. DD likes it too, but have to ration her since her system isn't as tolerant to it as mine LOL!

I like to bring, bagels w/cream cheese, grapes, granola bars, chex mix w/m & m's added to it to curb my chocolate fix and always bottled water.

Have fun on your trip! Ann

I enjoy dried fruit and nuts(unsalted mainly) together packed in zip lock bags.

Can't think of anything else to add to what has already been posted except don't forget to drink plenty of water while flying! Enjoy your visit with your sister and be sure to let us know how the trip was!!

Love the "convenient economy size" of beef jerky suggestion Jewel http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif . You are too funny!!

Thanks for all the great ideas. I hadn't even thought of most of those things.

Jessica - on a slightly different note, most airlines actually offer a choice of meals on flights where they do serve a full meal. Many offer vegetarian, kosher, and other special diet meals but you have to call ahead and reserve one. The last time I ordered a vegetarian breakfast I received a lovely fruit platter, while my seatmate got some sad-looking warmed-over omelet thing. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Just a thought.
