I just have to share this ---
Last night I went to the early (6:30ish) showing of Mr and Mrs. Smith. On the way to the theater I rounded a curve in the road and came snout to van with the biggest moose I've ever seen! He was so handsome! Huge with a multi-pointed rack. He just stood there! I thought - wow - it doesn't get any better than this...
Then! On the way home I decided to take a different route. Rounding another bend in the road was a female and two young moose crossing the road. The mom made it across first. The youngsters stood in the middle of the road for a few minutes. Then after they crossed, mom and babies stood in the meadow, about 15 - 20 feet from the road. When I looked over at them the entire meadow was glowing with fireflies!
So I saw this beautiful image of moose, two babies, in a field aglow with fireflies, with a silouette of mountains in the background. I wish I could have taken a photo, but know there is no way I could have captured that moment.
When I called my mom to tell her, all she said was "you went to the movies by yourself??!!"
Anyway, what a spectacular and special scene! I just had to share.

Very cool! DH and I often go driving to look for moose. Last year we found a mama and brand new baby right next to the road. It was so cute!
Thanks for sharing!

How cool!! I've always wanted to see a moose up close like that, but I guess it won't happen as long as I live in the "city". ;)
Thanks for sharing!!

Not a moose anywhere near these parts, but I feel the same way about nmy deer and rabbits. I haven' seen any fireflies in ages. They used to put on a show for me everynight when I lived in Dallas (before I got married). DH has never seen them, and I don't think either of my boys have either. Must have been a wonderful sight.
Hope you liked the movie too.

How exciting! Gosh I know you wished you had a camera. What a beautiful scene it must have been. Years and years ago I lived in Limestone, Maine for a little over a year. The moose would walk through our back yard like dogs. My husband was in the AF at the time and stationed at Loring and he worked on the B-52's and they would get on the runway all the time. Thank you for sharing. It brought back some nice memories for me.:)

Wow, sounds awesome! When I used to travel with my job, I always loved visiting New Hampshire. If it didn't get so darn cold there, I would have moved there in a heartbeat. I never got to see a moose although I was always on the lookout...

Loved your story. You may not have had a camera, but I got a good picture!
And- very funny what your Mom said!

What a beautiful "mental photo" you shared! I always thought that it would be great to have a camera attached to you, in some way, to be ready for spur-of-the-moment photos.
DH and I were biking this morning and in front of us I saw, on the side of the path next to the woods, a smallish animal. Golden-retriever sized. When we got closer, we saw that it was a tiny fawn. Wobbly legs, white spots, and all. He walked (unsteadily) back into the woods as we watched. I would have loved to have a camera attached to my shoulder then. :)

I loved your story. Most of my really good friends know that I have two creatures that I really want to see some day - mooses and whales. That may be one reason I'm so attracted to New England. :D I would love to see the sights your described!!! Thanks for sharing.

Very nice and thanks for sharing. We are headed to Canada on vacation and one of my biggest hopes is to moose while there.

I've never seen a moose or any fireflies in person.
Are you ever scared that one will leap madly in front of your car, and you'll hit it?
All through AZ and NM we saw signs warning us of elk. I drove all tensed up, convinced they were waiting behind trees to leap in front of my car to our mutual deaths.
