View Full Version : Nutrition question dried fruit compared to fresh

Does anyone know if dried fruit retains its nutritional value?
I believe it retains it's nutrients but it is far more caloric so a little goes a long way.

It does retain most of its nutritional value, but in a much more concentrated form. Per unit of volume, it's much higher in sugar than fresh fruit, so, like Sami said, watch those calories. It's also a little harder for the body to digest, due to loss of water content and enzymes.

Wow -- just out of curiosity I put 1/4 cup raw apple, chopped, into Mastercook, and it was 16 calories. 1/4 cup dried apple, chopped, was 52!

That is good to know. I will be careful.
