Hello! Does anyone have a good recipe for sangria? I did a search and found one for white sangria, posted by Vanessa, that I could try. There was also a reference made to a recipe CL had - but not the actual recipe. Thanks ahead of time.

Hi,
This is my fave recipe for sangria.

3/4c simple sugar
2 bottles red wine
3/4c brandy
1/2c triple sec
3/4c orange juice
2 oranges sliced thin
2 green apples, cored, sliced thin
2 lemons sliced thin

Boil water and pour over sugar to dissolve. Cool. Combine all ingredients in a LARGE pitcher and refrigerate, covered, 2 hrs or up to 2 days.

It's very, very good.

As a devoted public schools teacher I find myself waitressing on the weekends -- at the restaurant where I work they use mixed fruit (apples, kiwi, strawberries, melon, oranges) sugar, red wine, triple sec, banana liquore and soda water with ice

We had a mariachi band at school today and as I am listening, I am dreaming of an outdoor cafe with sangrias....I look around and there are hundreds of kids grade k-2.....kind of ruins the fantasy...

Thanks for everyone's ideas. We are making sangria next weekend - if I can decide which to make, so many choices now. I knew I could count on this board for suggestions.
Maybe this little "conversation" will encourage us all to enjoy some cold sangria. I don't know about everywhere else, but it is already getting way to warm in NYC.

Sangria time!!!

Hi there are many versions of sangria. Basically start with some red wine (I like burgendy) Use 2 bottles or 1 big bottle then add sugar or make a simple sugar syrup by putting on the stove same amounts of sugar and water.Let cool.Use about 3/4 c simple syrup I keep this simple syrup in the fridge for daiquiris etc. Add some orange juice between 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup. At this time mixing with wooden spoon you can either add something to spike it. This is your personal choice. In Puerto Rico many spike it with rum. Now you can add vodka, brandy etc its your choice. Be sure and taste. Don't spike it too much that it overpowers the sweetness. Then add chopped red or green apples (with skin), slices of orange and lemon (thinly).Put in refrigerator. When ready to serve you will add about 2 cups of chilled club soda. When serving be sure to scoop up fruit. If you do this early its nice as the fruit gets the taste of sangria.
Some serve sangria over ice but in my opinion since I add the club soda then it would be too diluted.
Enjoy!!!

The sangria I mentioned on the BB was in Gusto magazine
that one has cinnamon and cloves and I believe someone made it and posted on the board it was good.

Ok heres the gusto recipe sangria (featured as part of the Argentinian BBQ)
Serve with ice fileed wineglasses
1 c fresh orange juice
1/3 c sugar
1-750 mililiters bottle merlot or other dry red wine
4 whole cloves
1-8x1 inch orange rind strip
2 cinnamon sticks (3 inch each)
1 orange thinly sliced and seeded
1 lemon thinly sliced and seeded
2 c club soda
Combine first 3 ing in large pitcher & stir until sugar dissolves
Press cloves into rind strip. Add strip, cinnamon and fruit to wine mixture. Chill & stir club soda before serving. Yields:
1 1/2 qts

On the Southern Living site there's a What's New heading that list "Sangria and Shrimp" as the first option. Click on it and there's a Sangria recipe. I haven't tried it but the pitcher of Sangria sure does look good.
