Hey, I was reading the tell me about yourself post and was so excited to read that other ppl know about The Dancing Outlaw! One of my Mom's good friends gave us the tape years ago and I have some how managed to lose it! Anyway I think it has got to be the funniest thing I have ever seen. I am dying to find the tape, but at this point I am thinking it is long gone. Do you know if it is possible to buy one, and if so where could I find it?
Thanks for your help!

Oh Lauren...you're too late. Bummer. We can no longer sell the tape legally. I'd do a search online or maybe JHolcomb can help you out!
So many people are sad that we ousted Jesco!

I can't remember where I bought the tape, but I'll rack my brain. It wasn't too long ago-maybe a year and a half. Katie-pie, when did you stop selling it legally (I hate to think I bought an illegal copy!)? I am so happy someone else knows the joy that is Jesco. My dad can't watch it- he thinks it's too depressing-reminds him of the people and places where he grew up. But as for me, I've gotta go get me a double-super buzz.

Shoot, I hope I can find a copy! That is so funny that your Dad can't watch it, mine can't either! He thinks is it is so sad. I will try to do a search on the internet and see what I come up with.
Thanks for y'alls help!

Y'all have piqued my curiosity. Who is Jesco? And what's his story?

While I think that Jesco is a phenomenon that must be experienced to be understood, I'll try to describe him. Jesco is this guy from the backwoods of West Virginia.Boone County to be exact. Let me just state at this point that not everyone in West Virginia is like Jesco! I hope there are very few people in this world like him. Anyway, this man (maybe Katie-pie can help me with the director's name) did a documentary on Jesco that aired on West Virginia Public TV. It was about Jesco White and his very disfunctional family. Jesco himself is described as "the last mountain dancer," a talent he inherited from his father who was killed in a family scuffle. Basically, the video consists of Jesco arguing with his wife/ex-wife Norma Jean, who thinks Jesco is alright, but that his other two personalities, Jesse (who is really mean) and Elvis (yes, he idolizes Elvis) are too much to handle. There are several death threats from both parties. There are also several shots of him dancing, accompanied on the guitar to the tune of Wildwood Flower, by Waddie, who looks to be around 100 years of age. His mom comes on to talk about Jesco and her late husband and some other things. There are also some shots of a family gathering where "muddin'" seems to be the order of the day. And don't forget those descriptions of "double super buzzes" from huffin' gas. That's Jesco the Dancing Outlaw in a nutshell, I guess.
Maybe I'm really sick to think that this is funny. Somehow, though it is. I just can't help it. Like I said, though, my dad thinks it's too depressing to watch because it reminds him of people he grew up with.

Lu Lu, there's a Jesco fan club web site at http://members.home.net:80/jescopage/index.htm. You can link to film clips and a message board.
