View Full Version : Anyone try the waffles in May 2001?
I've never tried soy flour. It doesn't sound appetizing, but it may be. Anyway, I would think if you wanted, you could just substitute an equal amount of all-purpose flour. The texture may be slightly different though. I know I've had success replacing whole wheat flour for an equal volume of white flour.

I was thinking about trying these but was wondering whether I should invest in the soy flour.

This is my third time trying to send this so hopefully it works!
Actually, I haven't tried any of the May waffle recipes because my DH has been experimenting with yeast waffles. We discovered them while staying with a friend a few weeks ago. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to post the recipe. If you can get past the mild "beer" smell. they've very fun and tasty. And of course, they don't really have any alcohol in them!

I haven't tried the waffles, but HAVE used soy flour in recipes -- quite frequently. Whenever I make pizza dough or rolls, I usually substitute in about 1/3 soy flour for regular flour... The flavor is not at all offensive, and the soy helps to give things a "crispy" crust (just be careful about overbrowning in the oven).
Since you can buy relatively small bags of soy flour (or very small amounts if you buy in bulk), I would encourage you to try it out. It's a good way to get a bit of soy in your diet...

Same with me - I haven't tried this yet but have used soy flour to add protein. I would definitely buy it and try it. Then let us know how they are!

Because I am allergic to wheat I use soy (combine with other flours). I agree with Lori you can get a small bag and try it. It will give you a nice crust and the flavor is not bad either.

I can only find soy flour in fairly large bags in the health food section of our supermarket. Where do you find it in bulk? Also, how different is the taste of the flour? I've smelled soy milk and it smells terrible.
I don't mean to be too fussy here ... I just have so many ingredients around that I've only used for one recipe and want to cut down on that.
