I was wondering if anyone out there was planning a Survivor Finale Party? If so, what are you serving and any unusual ideas you will implement into your party theme?

I wouldn't exactly call it a party. Just DH and I sitting at home with pizza, glued to the TV for 3 solid hours of Survivor! And not CL pizza, either. We're getting the dripping-with-grease, bad-for-you, take-out stuff! It's my splurge for the week.
(isn't it sad what I have to look forward to in my life??)

Wouldn't rice be the most appropriate food choice? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

If that's the way you're gonna go, don't forget the chicken feed -- you can make your very own Kucha corn at home!

My class is having a Survivor mini-party in school on Thursday. I have an activity where they have to rate a list of items in order of importance to them on a deserted island. The kids are bringing in treats (no bugs, though) and if I'm lucky, we'll get to vote somebody out of the class! (Kidding...)
Anyway, I'm pulling for Colby as that's the name of one of my dogs!

Of course....we trade off weeks at our friend's houses. This week is at Litty's, she is Indian, and is planning on making Indian food YUUUMMMMM!!!!! (Last week at Michelles...she is Mexican and n=made tostadas!)

Just had to mention, even though I've never watched the show, that I went to high school with Keith Famie, before he became a famous chef!

Very cool, gobluem82! That's at least two of us who have Survivor "connections" then, because I went to high school with Kimmi (aka Berle, which is what I knew her by in HS).

I will be sitting in my hotel room in Seattle watching the grand finale. This is both good and bad. I would rather be at home. But, my DB doesn't watch TV and makes fun of me watching Survivor. During the first Survivor finale, he and a friend who came over watched the finale with me, but made fun of it the entire time.
I am going to have to tell my manager that I cannot go to dinner with her because I have to watch TV. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
We had a party last year and my co-worker made a cake shaped like a rat. It was fun. We had tiki torches and all dressed in survivor fashion (ok, except for the bandana tops and bathing suit bottoms). I wore a (faux) snake skin skirt. This year we're all going to a local pub/cinema to watch it on the big-screen and have pizza and beer. A radio station will be there having contests. I am sort of disppointed that its already pretty obvious who's going to win but at least its a nice person this year...-amy

My DH has a grad school class tonight and made me promise to tape it (and not watch it). We're planning on watching the tape tomorrow night. Wonder if it will be possible to not know the final outcome until tomorrow (even thought it's pretty obvious... at least he's awfully good to look at http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif) .
uh-oh, Schuh. I think one of us has the day wrong. Im on the east coast if that matters, but to my understanding, Survivor grand finale show is tomorrow nite which is Thurs., May 3, at 8 pm...we better settle this fast!-amy

You guys are SICK!
LOL
I actually never watched either survivor series until last week, when my Survivor addict parents came to town, and insisted!
However, now I just have to see the finale..
Try this one on for a wierd survivor night: Since both my boys will be gone on Saturday night(Cinco de Mayo) I planned a Tres de Mayo family night for Thursday instead. But I forgot that my DH is scheduled for his vasectomy on Thursday....oh well!
So, we'll watch Survivor, with DH sitting on ice, eating Cinco de Mayo food... and drinking a Margarita!
I can't wait to hear DH's comments about "surviving" the procedure!!

I LOVE Survivor. We did not have TV when the first season aired, but my husband and I have been addicted to Survivor II. We aren't having a party. Actually, my husband has to work late at the hospital, so I am taping it for him. It will just be me and my cats rooting for Colby!
Have any of you bought or looked at Keith Famie's cookbook, Famie's Adventures in Cooking (or something like that)? It was planned before he even got onto Survivor, so it isn't a gimmicky type book. I would be very curious to take a look at the recipes next time I am in the bookstore!
Schuh, whew! I was worried there for a minute. You know how you plan your week to the nth degree and one wrong move can screw up your whole game plan? I'm a mom too, so I know what you mean about the geraniums in the cranium. Yes, Colby is a hottie, even with the weight loss. I loved Elizabeth. There are people here at work who think the whole thing is scripted. It figures, they're the same people who bought into the whole y2k thing, even built shelters! Have fun tomorrow nite!! amy

Colby is certainly a handsome man. Has he mentioned a girlfriend? He's really close with his mom. I'm leaning toward Tina being the winner. Hope I can get the baby (14 month old) in her crib and husband has something to do so I can watch the finale in peace. Just in case, the VCR will be taping. Enjoy your Survivor parties.

I like the rice idea. Should I serve, let's see is it 5 spoonfuls per person.
I've decided on Shrimp on the Barbie (recipe from Outback Steakhouse) and Rice, of course,
and some Foster's.
We're just having a few people over. Our guess is Tina will come away as the winner.
Colby is quite a charmer. Texans must be very proud. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
On Keith's Cookbook, think I'll pass on that. The poor guy can't even cook rice!LOL

Hmmm. I don't like Keith all that much, but I am certainly not judging him poorly based on the rice! He was named one of the best new chefs one year by Food & Wine and owns several restaurants. I am quite sure he can cook well!

Foodiedelite...
That still leaves the question....who gets to scrape the pot? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
I think Tina deserves to win, myself. But I was wrong last time.
I had no idea that Keith was that good of a cook. I guess when you only see someone cooking rice, that doesn't tell you a whole lot about their culinary abilities.
I, too, am now addicted to Survivor. I feel a bit ashamed , too, like I am standing in front of a group saying "My name is Sue, and I...... love Survivor"! I actually got hooked on it because I like the show CSI, and I would turn on the TV about 15 minutes before that began. Well, I started watching the end of Survivor then when everyone gets voted off. Soon I was hooked. Now on Thursdays I tell my husband he is in charge of our daughter so I can watch the show and get my fix. I don't even watch TV really, so my husband gets a kick of out seeing me like this, and he actually is getting into it, too. He is rooting for Colby, because that is our last name, although it isn't spelled like that.
I liked Elizabeth, too, and was bummed to see her go. I am rooting for Tina to win the whole thing.

Absolutely love Survivor! My daughter and I started watching it right from the very first episode of Survivor I. We were immediately hooked. Of course, my husband just makes fun of us but he too starting watching in self-defense so he could keep up with the Survivor conversations that my daughter and I were having.
Not having a Survivor party on Thursday. We did have a "Survive the Super Bowl Party." We invited people over to watch the Super Bowl and then Survivor (the first episode of Survivor II). Everybody had a good time but I'm afraid a few of my friends thought I was crazy as they watched me intently (and seriously) watching Survivor!
Good idea with serving rice on Thursday.

Browneye, you crack me up! What I wouldn't give to be at YOUR party neighbor!!
I watched the first Survivor to my husband's distaste, and this year I made him watch with me. He is totally hooked! He's working late tomorrow night, and he wants me to tape it and wait to watch it with him over the weekend. Nu-uh!! I'll tape, but I'm watching it at the same time! I may be wrong, but I'm pulling for Tina in this one. In my opinion the lady has surprised everyone! Of course, in the first Survivor I was pulling for Kelly right up to the bitter end when the idiot won.
And if Colby wins I'll just look forward to a cover of People magazine suitable for framing... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

My DH and I are addicted, too! Of course we get everything a week or so behind. But they showed the next to last episode last night and we will see the end our Friday night! Can't wait! We think Colby deserves to win!
You think he can act? I sure could stand to see him on the big screen more often!

Ok, I was going to keep quiet on this thread, but I'm really surprised at how many people are rooting for Tina to win. Doesn't anyone think she was out of line for instigating the search of Kel's backpack?
Personally, I've been rooting for Colby since Day One. It sure helps that he's a hottie, but aside from that, he won me over the minute he whipped out his Texas flag.

Hey, Jewel,
You're invited over any ol' time.
I'll save you a piece of Margarita Cheesecake for after your surgery...

You're on Browneye!! And I want that recipe!! I should take this moment to add that I expect Colby to win, and I have been rooting for him since Day #1...but there's a bit of a women's libber in me straining to get out, saying that Colby is a big, strong, (pant! pant!) Texas man, and he can easily do some of the things that women were never even expected to do! Tina has really come through in the pinches. I think I'm also still rooting for 'female' since Kelly got gyped in the last series. I honestly hope Colby gets it, but it wouldn't bother me at all if Tina came through! I just wouldn't be framing her People Magazine cover! And Aggie? yes, I do remember the backpack incident, and I don't believe that was right. BUT our big, strong, rugged (pant! pant!) Texas man stole coral from the Great Barrier Reef, too! So, he's a big, strong, rugged, handsome NAUGHTY man...someone hold me back! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

UNLESS the coral was already dead, which it appeared to be from just the quick glances I could get of them. That was my first thought, too, so I tried to check them out and they looked like bleached-out coral. Who knows, though - I could be wrong. But at least he was well-intentioned about it and maybe just (hopefully) ignorant. Plus, he's such a hottie!

Aggie, that man could present me a dried-up dead pig's snout with a ribbon around it, and as long as he smiled that big Texas smile when he gave it to me I'd never let it go... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Too bad he's gonna drive such a lame car!! They won't let him back into Texas with that ugly thing, will they? No place to put the gun rack! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

I was invited to a party, but I don't think I'll go. I have to FOCUS! I didn't watch the first Survivor and felt totally out of it. So I watched it in re-runs and loved it. This time I watched it from the beginning.
I think Tina will win. I like Colby too. But I won't feel too bad if he doesn't win, he has won everything else!

Might I suggest serving some cheese with that rice... let's say, Colby cheese?
(Is this a lame first post or what? I've been reading these boards for a month now, enjoying all the food talk. It just took Survivor to draw me into the conversation! I love the show too, and knew I had it bad when I couldn't resist the special People magazine devoted to Survivor. I just wonder if future shows will continue to have as much appeal as the first two.)

AGC, sorry -- I had a brain cramp. It's tomorrow night, which is when my husband has his class. I guess I skipped a day in my brain...
They say you lose your mind when you have kids...
But do we agree that Colby is quite easy on the eyes? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

You have given me yet another reason to rant today (that's 2 in one day- how lucky am I?) I am the biggest Survivor freak! I started having parties and people over but became annoyed by all the distraction (hello, can you say obsession?)
Anyway, DH and I will also be glued to the TV hootin' and hollerin' at everything. You should have seen us the night Jerri was booted. The neighbors must have thought we won the lottery by the way we were yelling. We've even got a friendly wager going on as to the outcome. The winner gets their favorite homemade meal prepared in whatever clothing (or lack of) they'd like the chef to wear. I took the long shot and went with Keith winning this thing, DH picked Tina but we let our cats choose Colby. Anyone think we'll be making tuna for them Friday????? Ha ha ha ha ha....

Welcome aboard, sapphirestar (love the name -- would love to hear what's behind it). LOL from your Colby cheese suggestion.
And since we're mourning the losers, I was really bummed when Roger got voted off. I thought he was a great guy -- he won my heart when he was scared of heights and swimming and came through with that challenge early on.
While I in theory would like a woman to win, I just can't get enough of Colby ... I try not to drool too much when I watch the show with my DH!

I am so glad to read all these posts! I am the only one I know who watches Survivor and I always felt like a loser. I had to put my claim on the tv 2 weeks ago, and now my DH is whining because the Mavericks are on at the same time. Too bad for him. I got hooked on the first one, wasn't planning to watch this one because the show is so consuming. However, since Colby went to Texas Tech and so did I, I felt like I needed to support him. I don't think he is going to win though, my vote is for Tina. Yes, she has played the game in a sneaky way, that is what you have to do and at least she was semi-nice about it.

I am another former non-tv watcher who is now totally hooked. I love the idea of Fosters Beer tonight. I'm also going to jokingly serve my SO a few teaspoons of rice, then I'll pull out the peanut sauce recipe that's getting raves this morning--I think I'll make it with shrimp.
Have fun everybody!
