Has anyone tried these? I'm tempted...very tempted...it seems like such a good idea for long horseback rides in cool weather, but since they're $89 I thought I'd ask first.

I don't have the jacket, but DH & I both have the vest (older style - ours are several years old) and we love them for cool weather activities. We always wore them under snowboarding jackets for extra warmth on the slopes, and we wore them this past winter when we took rowing classes out on the lake for wind and cold protection. Personally, I think they're great and very versatile. When DH worked for the fish & wildlife department in Oregon and spent 12 hour days in the field in the cold, rainy weather, he always had his on under a Gore-tex jacket.

Also, FWIW, REI has an excellent return policy, so if you decide you don't like it, even after wearing and washing it, they are happy to take it back.

Thanks! I'm glad you've had a good experience with them. Think I'll go pick mine up this afternoon... :D

Windproof fleece is awesome stuff!. You get soft, comfy & cuddly with the windproofness of a hard shell jacket. Fleece by itself is warm but when there's a breeze it goes right thru the fabric. If you need water repellant too, check out the soft shell jackets. REI is having a big sale starting today... but you probably knew that.

Yeah, unfortunately the fleece I wanted wasn't on sale. I bought it anyway. And I did get good deal on some nyon capris for rafting. :)
