Don't apologize for not knowing. MasterCook is software made by Sierra. It has been around for a few years and comes in different versions. The latest is 6.0 and you can buy it with CL recipes on it (mine doesn't have it) but you can also enter any recipe to it and do the nutritional analysis (it's based on Mastercook's calculations not necessarily CL's so sometimes there are differences).

Mastercook is a group of software programs put out by Sierra. There is the basic one, one specific to CL recipes, others have Betty Crocker featured, and there is a collection that includes both plus others. In addition to the recipes themselves, you can create your own cookbooks, cut and clip other recipes into or out of the program, use menu planning, grocery lists, nutritional analysis, etc. It helps make our addictions more managable.

Do any of you belong to a group that shares typing of the C/L recipes for import into MC. I would like to know if you find them a help???

I'd like to know if there is a 'trick' or secret to buying MasterCook. I've seen it at Costco, but never looked at the price, but I've also seen them on Ebay, 'new and sealed' with CL included for less than $20. Is this a good buy?

I'm also not that computer-literate, and wondered how easy it is to use once DH installs it for me! If its a tough program it'll be a waste on me! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif

Joyce, I belong to a list that types up recipes monthly, around 8 of them....it is great. Each month an assignment is posted and you can then import everyones recipes...You'll have each months mag. in MC for the low price of typing a few recipes! The one I belong to is for MC 5.0 and 6.0 users...it is MCCL@yahoogroups.com

Jewel, I think it has been mentioned on a previous thread that Target had the current CL version of MC selling for 19.00 and that includes a one year subscription to CL! It takes some getting used to, but the software is fairly easy to use and with such great help on this bb I know you'll get all your "????" answered. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Thanks for letting me know. Now I won't feel so lost when I see it mentioned.

I bought version 6.0 at Costco and it came with a $10 rebate ... I think with the rebate and the free subscription to cl, the total cost is $14? Can't remember, but I thought it was a very good deal. The rebate is through Costco, so I don't think you can get that low of a price anywhere else from what I have seen.

While on the topic of Mastercook, does anybody receive the daily recipes from them? I subscribed (free) to this a couple of weeks ago, and noticed that some of the nutrition analysis is really off. Let me find an example of what they sent:
