Hi everyone,

The Natural Ovens website is back up and running, and more user friendly.

I've never ordered anything, but gosh, it all looks and sounds so good!!

Can I ask what your favorite items are?

Mmm... We're fortunate to have Natural Ovens products right in our grocery store here... They have the best high fiber bagels in the universe. The brainy bagels and sundried tomato varieties are my favorite!

The carrot muffins are also great! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

These bagels look so incredible -- I just can't justify spending $10 on shipping!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif $15 is pretty hefty for 2 packages of bagels.

Maybe I'll try making my own whole-grain blueberry bagels.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

I thought "natural ovens" sounded familiar. We get their stuff on the shelves here. But then, I saw on the website that the bakery is in wisconsin. I guess I need to try it before I blast outta here (2 years from now, that is). Thanks for bringing it to my attention -- rye bread and low-fat carrot muffins, here I come!

Makedah, I just saw on your profile that your a grad student in Wisconsin...is that UW-Madison? I went to school there, and was just there last week-end visiting...had lunch at the Union, hung out at the Terrace, went for a run along the lakeshore path out to Picnic Point...it's so beautiful, I forgot how awesome the campus is!! Enjoy it while you're there!

I'm with you EmilyCat. I hate the high shipping charges for some of these places. I just was over at the King Arthur Flour website and was beginning a massive shopping spree and noticed that my shipping charge was almost more than my purchases. I noticed in the "fine print" that they only ship Priority to Hawaii. I cancelled that order but fast. I only had $16.00 worth of items in my basket and my shipping was over $13.00!!!!

I do go to school at UW-Madison. I've been running for a year and just started running on the lakeshore path in April. It's wonderful! I don't like Madison, however. But I will try to enjoy the path (and now, some Natural Ovens bread) while I'm here!

Not to make this a post on Madison, but I'm sorry you don't like Madison, Makedah! Is it too big? Too cold? Too liberal? Those are the objections I've heard in the past. I'm sure it's a different experience as a graduate student than as an undergrad. I hope it becomes more bearable with the natural ovens bread. Try the Bagels Forever Bagels, too...the "Hole Wheat" ones cheer me up! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My politics are to the left of liberal, so I don't find the city too liberal. I lived in Tampa before I got here, so it's not too big. It is, however TOO cold. And frankly, too white. There are things to like about Madison, so I'll try to focus on that for the time being -- the trails, Penzeys (which I live down the street from), the huge farmer's market, and now, Natural Ovens.

I actually live behind Bagels Forever! That means I can open my window, inhale, and tell you when they're baking blueberry, cinnamon-raisin or garlic bagels. They FINALLY started making "everything" bagels (with salt, poppy seeds, garlic & onions), which makes ME happy! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

How far across the country are Natural Ovens products available in stores?

As for the shipping from Natural Ovens, be sure to check all shipping methods. I don't know where everyone lives, but when I first placed my order, the shipping came up to $13.00. I didn't realize the default shipping was 3 Day. I checked the ground and it was much less, don't remember exactly how much. It is worth it to me, I order a bunch at one time and freeze them. I live in SC, they are not available here as far as I know. I sure wish they were. They are very low in points for WW.

Lynn,

The reason I have to spend that much is because I live in Georgia -- if I used the longer shipping time its shelf life would be up by the time it arrived -- and I would not be happy with moldy bagels. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

I know what you mean about distance. I live in SC and it makes it here in 3 days, usually by Wed. I am probably taking a chance ordering ground. I guess the first time they come moldy, I will learn my lesson. I don't blame you for not paying the extra shipping. That is a lot of $$$$$$$$. BTW, I am from Ga. and still consider it home! I visit my grandparents in Columbus often and drive through Atlanta when I do. I love it!!!!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

O.K. Makedah,

If you live near bagels forever and penzey's, you must live somewhere near Hilldale mall(I think that's the name...it's been a long time since I've been to Madison.) I'm sorry you don't like it there, but I can't disagree with you...it's cold(especially if you're originally a Floridian! I went to Madison for 8 years(undergrad. and Med. school, and I loved it!). But then again, I'm originally from Milwaukee, so I'm used to the cold!! Well have a bagel on me(or for me!), and enjoy what you can while you are there!

As far as shipping goes...I live in PA and I pay $8.00 for ground shipping...This means the stuff was baked on Monday and reaches me around noon on Thursday...I was a bit skeptical at first, thinking everything would be stale or mouldy...but I've been ordering for months and have never had a problem.

their cookies are absolutely wonderful! Big filling cookies. My favorites are the ones with carob chips and the ones with raisins.

i recently discovered natural ovens, and i LOVE everything i have tried!

my favorites are the english muffin bread (maskes great toast) & the hearty grains & onions bagels.

the 7 grain w/herbs bread is also good, the pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are allright as well (better warm).

i know a lot of you have been incorporating flaxseed into your diet to get omega-3, well their products have omega-3 plus a good amount of fiber.

an example:

1 slice of 7 grain herb bread has...
225mg omega-3
70 calories
1g fat
0g sat fat
0mg cholesterol
70mg sodium
16g carb
4g dietary fiber
1g sugar
4g protein

not bad huh?

I used to order quite often when we lived in Pa...and was lucky enough to find a natural food store in a neighboring town here in South Florida that actually stocks most of the products...the "brainy bagels" and waffle mix are our favorites!

Sandy,
you can find Natural Ovens bread if you trek down to Ann Arbor. They have it at Whole Foods and at Hiller's. I frequently see their truck headed for Whole Foods in the morning when I'm on my way to work.

WOW! I bought a loaf of the Multi-Grain" bread yesterday and I am hooked! I had never seen it before. Two slices are 10 g of fiber. That along with 14 g of fiber in Fibre One and I am set for the day! I just checked the receipt - it was $3.49 a loaf, but worth it. :)

funnybone,

Isn't it just the best bread! I have an order coming tomorrow...my freezer will be full of bread/rolls/bagels...our local store doesn't carry all our favorites, so I had to start mail order again...
