I'll tell you what--I'm having so much fun with all of you! I'm dying to know a little bit more about everyone...
Here's my story. I'm nearly two years married (my hub is getting his teaching certificate in art education), I'm 27, and I live in Morgantown, WV. I work at West Virginia Public Broadcasting--right now I'm putting together a cookbook filled with PBS viewers' and NPR listeners' recipes! Fun stuff. I'm originally from York, PA. I love the color blue--and I feel my best when I'm at the beach...just a little Katie-pie trivia...
Now, it's your turn!

Hi Katie and everyone!
I like your post,as it's so nice to have an idea of the friendly people with whom we communicate...
I am 26, getting married in September & working in HR. I live near San Francisco & love the Bay Area. My other favorite places are Lake Tahoe, Mexico & Paris (I went for my first time last month).
This board has been so fun!

Hi Katie-pie (BTW, I used to live in Athens, O- I love Morgantown and Elkins, WV is one of my favorite places to hike!):
Here are a couple of threads I ran across a few weeks ago- it was so great to read about everyone's lives, aspirations, BB veterans and newcomers alike.
http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/004755.html
http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/002263.html
For some reason, I now get an error message with this second site- I hope it's just a temporary snafu, as many of the BB veterans posted here....it's a terrific read!
I'm Julie, 31 (32 rapidly approaching), married nearly 9 years to an incredible guy who is a junior high/high school History and French teacher (he's a farmer at heart!) We're both natives of Washington State, but our married life- until we returned to the Northwest last summer- has been spent in Africa, Colorado, Ohio, and Illinois. We've been chasing careers, grad school, until we realized that we belonged at home. The travel bug bit us early- we've both lived in France (at different times- we met in a French class in college http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ), I've also lived in Japan (teaching English), and we went as newlyweds to Chad, Africa to become Peace Corps Volunteers. The love of our life is our mutt, Lucy, the world's most adorable dog.
I'm thrilled that we've been able to do so many wonderful things, and to have lived away (far away!) from home- I'm truly ready to settle down. We've got another move ahead, as DH is looking for a teaching job, but we're back in Washington State to stay. We're hoping to start a family very soon.
I telecommute from home- I work for a U.S. university based in London- and I travel about 7-10 days/month visiting our affiliate universities in the Southwest and West Coast who send students to our university on a short-term basis. Heck of a lot of fun!
My passions are the out-of-doors, writing, music, reading, cooking, learning-trying new things, constantly challenging myself, being in my 30s (so glad to say goodbye to the 20s!, languages, and most recently, this BB!

Hi everyone! My name is Christine, I'm a 32 year old SAHM married almost 8 years. I have 2 kids...Emily 3 1/2 and Gabe 6 months. We also have 1 dog & 3 cats. I don't have much time to cook, bake or read, but those are the things I like to do. I spend a lot of time on my homemade dog biscuit business, which I do from home. I also like to do crafts, some of which I sell. Oh, I live in Minnesota. Nice to meet all of you! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My name is Pam, and I'm nearly 39 years old. I spent the first 30 years of my life in central California, but at 270 lbs, 95-105 degree weather 7 months out of the year made central California one of the worst places to be! I said goodbye to family and friends, sold everything I owned except for what I could fit in my car and moved to southern Washington State. I had a friend who offered to let me stay with him until I found a job and a place of my own. I was there 10 months, then on my own! I went through a few 'transitional relationships' with some no-good types, went through a really traumatic period that my Grandmother called 'being tested', but eight years after I left California I'm married to the most romantic, funny, kind, gorgeous, courteous gentleman that ever lived. I don't care what you women say, I got the best guy in the world. How many husbands out there don't have to be to work until 10am, but still get up at 5am to make his wife's breakfast, lay out her vitamins, prepare her travel mug of coffee, and warm up her car before she goes to work? He's mine...
We both work fulltime, I'm in Industrial Food Equipment and he works for the Associated Press. We're childless by choice, but have two canine 'children' we've adopted. Riley is a 20 lb mutt that looks like Chewbacca on all fours. Can't even see that he's a dog most of the time, looks more like a tribble. Sasha is our newest Siberian Husky. She likes to talk to me while I'm on the phone...sounds like a 4 year old with a mouth full of Bubble Yum! After years of wondering when I would get mine, I finally did.
I'm the most obsessed John Denver fan you'll ever see, and I love country and 80's music too. I'm crazy for lowfat cooking, and DH is crazy for trying anything I put in front of him at least once. He and I love antiques, and love crawling around in dusty warehouses and old barns looking for stuff. I'm into Antique Kitchen Items, he into Animation Art, primarily Hanna-Barbera. This man called me at work almost in tears when he'd heard that Bill Hanna died a month or so ago... Mostly we love being together!
I'm one of those women who is truly blessed and doesn't forget it for a minute! Grandma was right, I was being tested. Nice to know someone Up There says I passed! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I'm Eva, I'm 27, and married since last August to Che, my college sweetheart (also my Bonfire Buddy, for those of you who are familiar with Aggie traditions). And speaking of aggie, my username is a reference to my glorious alma mater, Texas A&M University, Class of 1994 (whoop!).
I'm an attorney, DH is a career student working on his second bachelor's degree and planning to start grad school next year. We were transplanted in Oregon in 1996 when I decided to go to law school, and as much as we love the NW, we'll always consider Texas our "real" home.
We're also "childfree" (childless by choice), and our family consists of us, our 3 beagles, a cat, and a bird.

What a fun way to get to know everyone! Well, as you can tell by my user name, I am Patsy. I am originally from Kansas City, Missouri... but, moved to New Jersey when I got married 4 1/2 years ago. The transition took a bit of time, but now I am pretty settled in here and we bought our first home last summer! No kids yet, but we definately want 2 of our own at some point. We are both 30 and will be 31 this summer. I have been working on my undergrad degree in finance for the last million years (so it seems) and will finally finish in December of this year! Yea!
I love to cook (love this board because I have even more incentive to try new things), take pictures, go to the shore... favorite places to travel are Martha's Vineyard, Disneyworld (so far - there's time to discover many more)... and Kansas City and Phoenix to visit family.
I believe we all have the perfect dh or so in our own eyes... so, I won't tell the rest of you that I have the best in the world... but he is for me! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
My real name is Maureen. I am 43 and have two daughters ages 20 and 18! Hard to believe. I am a substitute teacher after many years as a stay at home mum. My husband Ron is an artist. He is actually quite well known for his wildlife art and prints of his work can be found in galleriesthroughout the U.S. and Canada.
I love having him work at home. He has always played an equal part in raising our girls.
We are very involved in track and field here in Victoria. Wouldn't you know it neither of our girls like to run! They are both very artsy which is just fine with us.
We became vegetarians about 12 years ago after reading John Robbins book "Diet for a New America".
I love to read, travel, coach, and laugh! I really appreciate the great sense of humor everyone has on this BB.
Oh yes I love to cook!! I use to make just about everything from scratch (down to ketchup etc.) but I find now that I am out working and more involved in the community I have given some of that up! I still love to bake bread etc. but am not above buying from the bakery.
We live in Victoria, B.C.- paradise on earth in my humble opinion. BTW I have the best DH!

Hello everyone!
I was reading all these interesting stories and felt compelled to tell my own. As you can tell from my user name, my name is Sara, I'm 25 years old, and to be married next summer.
I grew up in the Adirondack mountains in New York with my mother who insisted on cooking everything light. After 'rebelling' against lowfat while in college, I have recently returned to light cooking...it turns out mom was right. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
I am now living on Long Island with my soon-to-be DH and our two cats Zipper and Nikita. I love cooking and am excited I discovered these BBs. Everybody seems so pleasant.

Hey, Katie-Pie,
What fun that must be to be putting together a cookbook like that!
Jewel- surely you've had enough struggles to enjoy that gift of a DH you have, he sounds almost as nice as mine!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I am 42, live in the greater Seattle area, with my DH of 2.5 years, two boys ages 15 & 17, one best yellow labrador (oh, good dog!!) who insists on the addition of garlic powder chicken broth and yogurt to her kibble, one cool kitty, three horses. I love music, mostly jazz, like to play the piano, cook, read, ride horses and fly fish http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I am a Regional Director for a large Medical company- used to be a practicing R.N. and travel about 10 states for work.
Nice to see some other Washingtonians and Northwesterners here...Hello neighbors!
I'm sure that's enough about me..someone else's turn.

05-01-2001, 05:07 PM
Hi, I'm Patty. (Tiger is my last name, not a nickname!!) I'm 34 and have been marrried to a great guy for 9 years.
We love children but were told after much treatment we would never have any. During the adoption process we found out I was pregnant! After a very difficult pregnancy which included 5 months of complete bedrest (wish I had a computer than) I had our son 3 months early. He was only 2lbs but a fighter. They gave him 48hrs to live. After 7 weeks in intensive care he came home at 4lbs. The first year was tough but now he's a healthy 4yr old boy. And needless to say he is our life!
I'm an x-ray tech but gave up my full-time job when my son was born. Now I work about once a week as a mammographer. I consider myself a full-time Mom.
I've always loved to cook and I enjoy this website because I get to enjoy my passion. I'm able to cook and stay healthy and slim.

I love reading all of these.
My real name is Barbara. I was raised in Northwestern Washington State, moved to Seattle when I was 18 and stayed there until I was 30. I met my DH when he was stationed with the US Coast Guard in Seattle. We got married and moved to Port Angeles, WA for nine months and then moved to NYC, Saugerties, NY, Newport, RI and now Honolulu, HI (all in the last 8 years). Life is a virtual whirlwind.
We put off children until I was 37 and now have the most wonderful two year old girl that we can't imagine life without.
I love to cook and have had the opportunity to attend both the CIA weekend classes and weekend classes at Johnson & Wales in RI.
My husband is a sailor at heart and is always at sea, whether its days, weeks or months. Life is challenging at times, but in four years it will come to an end and we will settle someplace in Washington State - a place which we both love to no end.

Hi, my name is Susan (one of three trillion on this BB). I have been married for almost 22 years, have three great sons (20, 17, 14). My DH "retired" March 1st or changed careers, as he likes to put it. He went from Mechanical Engineer to Gentleman Rancher. We have 132 acres with cattle, horses, a donkey (trying to produce a mule...), ducks, guinea fowl, and JoLee (a year old Australian shephard/blue heeler mix). We recently suffered the loss of our 2 yr old lab/greyhound pup, Roxi, but she was the greatest dog and I value the time I had with her. We live in a very rural area of Texas (closest town is pop. 260) and we own the only beer joint in town. Open every Friday and Saturday, our weekly entertainment(and a definite tax loss)! I volunteer at school, am the president of the local C of C, and totally love my life!

Elizabeth,
Having been raised a city girl all my life, I never imagined that I would be here! I had been on a horse once when we bought this place just 2 1/2 years ago and now I have two babies (a 3 yr old gelding and a 1 yr old colt) eating out of my hands and running to the fence whenever they see me! Amazing! Of course the cows run the other way, no trust there!

Good one, Katie-pie. My name is Rebecca (duh) and I'm 44. I live in a small town outside Philadelphia (have lived around this area all my life) and have been married (this time) for almost 12 years to a truly wonderful guy who is 6 years younger! We have two boys (9 & 7). I sell Pampered Chef during the week and sing at weddings/Bar & Bat Mitzvahs on the weekends. I'm in the process of recording my first CD (of all original songs). This has been a 25 year dream for me, and I'm really excited about it! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Okay, here's me. My name is Julie obviously, and I live in Ft. Lauderdale on a 50' sailing ketch. I'm 45 and originally from Richmond, VA where I met my DH. We were introduced by a mutual friend because I wanted to model and he owned a film production company. Eventually I went to work for him as his producer. That was 20 years ago. We're now semi-retired and preparing to sail the Bahamas and Carribean. We never had children but he has a daughter from his first marriage. She's like a daughter to me and is about to have her first child. It's a boy and due on my birthday next month!
I love to cook and I love animals.

Hello, all: I'm Linda. I'm 34 and live in Chicago. I'm originally from Northern California. I got married a year ago at the end of May to a wonderful man who is a musician and writer and makes me laugh (and laugh and laugh). I am currently back in school to get my bachelor's in history and teaching credential. In my former life, I was a struggling actress in New York and after that worked in the education department at a theater which gave me the idea to become a teacher. I grew up in a large family (five kids) that loves food and passed that passion on to me. I also love to read and ride my bike (when I have the chance). My husband and I love to travel, particularly to places where we can hike, ride our bikes, etc. Our favorites so far are Vancouver Island (probably helps that we were on our honeymoon when we went there) and Seattle. It's so great to meet all of you!

My name is Melissa (Missi was a nickname in high school and college) and I just turned 26 (on Monday actually). I'm orginally from Evansville, Indiana but moved to Lake Tahoe, CA (you can come and visit anytime Dearamy!) almost 2 years ago. DH and I were married in January after being together almost 5 years. He will turn 33 this year. Our "children" are two cats-- Dino and Rigby, but I would like to have children someday (just not sure when!). I am a family counselor at a non-profit agency and run a mentoring program where I match some of the children that are having problems with adults in the community to be "big brother/big sister" to them. It is truly rewarding work. DH is a manager at a restraunt at one of the resorts here. I love to read and cook and hike in the summer (no skiing for me!) and have recently got into studying wines due to a food and wine pairing class I'm taking for fun at the community college. I love reading everyone's stories and feel that I already know all of you better!

How wonderful that you get to call Lake Tahoe home! I spend quite a bit of time up there (Tahoe City) in the summer (or at least I have been-I went from college to being a teacher with summers off-now I get 2 weeks off per year total). My next trip will be for a girls weekend two weeks before my wedding in September.

Hi,
I'm Lynn. I've been married for almost 36 years (anniversary is coming up on May 28th). We live in Connecticut, where I've lived since I was 7 and have recently moved to Manchester, near Hartford. We bought an old house and are refurbishing it, slowly. I can't wait until we get to the kitchen, it has a large pantry and a sink! LOL No cabinets, no counter tops, nothing. I did bring a stove and some tables though. I have three grown daughter, one here in Connecicut and two in Florida, and three grandsons ages, 4,3 (in May) and 3 (in June). I love cooking and have recently begun cooking healthier. This board has been such a help and it's so nice to meet you all!

Curleytop, I just wanted to say you're an inspiration! I'm 37 years younger than you and I can't run a half block without feeling like I'm going into cardiac arrest!
I pray daily that I will have that type of happy, healthy, fun-filled marriage and long life. Prayers to you and your family also.

point: there are great writers on this board! Everyone's story is so interesting! My name is Amy, I'm 35, live in Raleigh, NC (welcome-soon, Jen!) and I have taught for 9 years at the largest state psychiatric hospital in NC. It pre-dates the civil war! My M.Ed. is in Behavioral/Emotional Disabilities and I love the middle-school age kids. I love my job, second only to my family. I have a wonderful husband of 8 yrs. and 2 sons, 3 and almost 6. We have a lot of fun together. We are either at work/school or we're together. I love to cook, read, walk, laugh. My dream is to travel when we retire. Or sit on a beach, golf, and fish (better learn to golf...). Also, I am lucky to have many old and dear friends and a super mother who is the grande-dame of southern cooking.

Hey everyone -
I missed out on my opportunity to "sign in" the last time we did this - the thread just got too long - so I'm happy for another chance. My name (obviously!) is Kelly, I've decided to stay 35 (only because I can't seem to always remember anymore exactly how far over 30 I am!), we've lived in Houston now for 3 LONG years - but my heart is still in San Diego. Contrary to the other posts, I'M married to the most fabulous man in the world and have the most adorable pets EVER! My DH and I both now work at Compaq, his job brought us here, but I "retired" from the Big 5 consulting world about 3 months ago, and joined the ranks in IT management. I miss traveling, but it's nice to be home to cook dinner more often - and thus have found this BB to be invaluable. We are also "childless by choice" (I like that phrase Pam!), but Samantha, our 6 year old American Eskimo and Napa (the "QUEEN) our 13 year old Himalayan kitty help compensate - AND we get more sleep than our friends who do have kids!
In addition to our love of cooking, my DH and I are passionate wine lovers and generally plan vacations around visiting various wine regions. I am a reformed runner having had 3 foot surgeries in the last 2 1/2 years and have had to find other ways to work off my aggression. So we've taken up biking - my DH rode the MS150 from Houston to Austin the weekend before last - what an inspiring group of riders that was! I'm dealing with residual issues from my last surgery and wasn't quite up to 180 miles...
I've sincerely enjoyed learning more about all of you and am continually amazed by how very diverse this group is, but how we have all come together due to a common interest. Cheers!

Hi everyone. I am fairly new to this board and new to Cooking Light-loving it! However, I do cook light on my own. My name is Amy and yes, I do love olives. My cat is named Olive too! I am 29 and live in Delaware, about 45 min south of Philadelphia. I have a BS in chemistry and work for the GORE-TEX fabric company where I do warranty work. I really enjoy my job, but have decided that my passion lies in creativity. I have known this all my life but, I finally have decided to do something about it. I am taking classes in graphic art and will start web design in the fall.
I am married and getting ready to celebrate my 5th anniversary. My DH works at Gore too. We both love the arts. DH is really getting into photography. I like to paint and make gifts, as well as cook, and read. I also love the beach which is where I grew up. It is about 100 miles south of where I live and we try to be there every weekend in the summer.
I am intrigued by those of you that live in San Fran or the Pacific NW. DH is dying to move there. I love the area too, but I am hesitant to leave our families and friends. Also, I am concerned about the cost of living in San Fran or Seattle.
Anyway, I am looking forward to much more chatting in the future!

Well, I suppose I am one of the youngest on this board....I'm 18. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif But, it doesn't really matter because I love cooking and I enjoy reading advice from all of you guys. I guess I am more of a lurker--I don't post too much, but have been reading the boards for quite a while. I am from CA and enjoy spending time with family, rhythmic gymnastics, working out, playing raquetball, and lots of other things too. I'm currently in my first year of college (have no idea what to major in), but still live at home with my parents (and at this point would not even consider moving out http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif).

How nice to hear more about you all, although I feel as though I know you. I am pretty new to the BB, but have been "cooking light" for quite a while. I've been married almost 35 years. DH is with a computer company here in Seattle and there are some boards that talk about him (and bash each other in nasty terms), so this one is especially nice.
My name is Dottie and I am a librarian and I love it. I did lots of cooking while at home with my two girls (now 26 and 29) and had a big garden. We've lived quite a few places, but love the Northwest and its wonderful variety of ingredients and cuisines.
I really appreciate the tips and reviews about recipes I plan to make. Because I'm often at work late, DH can follow the CL recipes and start dinner. He loves it when I tell him that the CL BB recommended more garlic!

Hi, My name is Mary Ann. I love this board! I get so many good tips & ideas for nice things to cook - actually too many nice things to cook since I don't have the time to spend in the kitchen as much as I'd like. I am 46 and live in Virginia Beach with my (very best) husband and 2 cats - Lilly (named appropirately after a hurricane) and Katie. We enjoy our backyard garden where we try to grow tomatoes, cukes, peppers and basil primarily. I have been going to WW for a while - lost over 20 lbs - and using lots of CL recipes to help me on my way to healthier eating. Thanks to everyone for sharing ideas and your opinions. This is really great!

It is wonderful to meet you all. I am pretty sure I have posted on one of the "old timers" threads, but will tell a little here. As I am sure you can guess, my name is Gina. I am soon to be 35, and live just west of St. Louis with my SO, Brian. I work for a small, federally funded agency that is housed within the Univ. of Missouri in Columbia. I spend my time at work providing technical assistance and conducting trainings on laws that affect people with disabilities. My SO is an airline pilot.
Aside from working, I spend my time cooking, running, gardening, and traveling. I also love flying and have taken flying lessons. My only child is a 12 year old calico cat, who is considerably more human than cat-like. Gina
Hi everyone.
I'm Pat. I'm 43 years old, married 13 years with 4 year old twins. I live in Minnesota.
I was just laid off my job as a computer systems developer (the company is moving our headquarters to Bolder, CO) and am looking for a job.
I'm just getting back into cooking. With having the twins, I've been too busy surviving to take the time to try new things. I do a lot of freezer/make ahead meals where I freeze several weeks - to one month worth of meals so that I can avoid the busy time after work.
I love this bulletin board.

Hi! This is fun! I am a relatively new regular visitor to this board but have been subscribing to CL for about 10 years (I think almost as long as they've been around) I have hereditary high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease, so like to cook light whenever I can. Plus, my husband can enjoy the benefits as well!
I am 32 and married 7 1/2 years to my college sweetheart. We live in Sugar Land, TX which is a suburb of Houston. We have a precious 4 1/2 month old baby girl and I am truly enjoying being a stay at home mom with her. It took us a long time for her to come, so I am glad that we are fortunate enough for me to stay home. Before she was born, I was the marketing director at a bank and have worked in various media/publicity/marketing jobs before and since then. I do some marketing contract work for my brother-in-law's business now.
Our "furry" children are a Norwegian Elkhound dog who will be 10 this year and a 1 year old, CRAZY tabby cat!
When I'm not cooking (and I do get to still do that--she "luckily" takes good naps), I am scrapbooking which is my major passion!
Brenda T. :-)

Hi, I'm Kathryn, 34, married for 12 years to my college sweetheart, no kids, 1 adorable cat. Currently residing on the CT shoreline, but a Virginian by birth and still consider it "home". I work as a university administrator but am also looking to make a career change to a more creative field (hi olive 101 - looks like we'll both be studying graphic and web design this fall!).
I've been a CL subscriber for about 8 years but really began "cooking light" as a lifestyle about 2 years ago. This board is a great way to exchange ideas with others who enjoy healthy cooking. Nice to meet you all!

Hi!
I am 28, single, live in Atlanta, originally from Long Island NY.
I am a meeting planner/catering director for the largest power company in the south. I do more work with emails than person-to-person that is why I am able to check in here so often!
I love cooking, although since I live by myself I don't do it much-- that is why I am so psyched for our first Supper Club meeting on May 19!! I also take yoga and a pottery class.
I have a cat named Misha that I love so much!
HI! My name is Emily. I am 22 years old and live in Mississippi. I will graduate from college next week which I am very excited about! I love to cook and am addicted to this website. I learn something new everyday! I also enjoy working out, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.

It's so fun to find out I having OTHER things in common with some of you!!
BosunsWife - my husband is a Coastie too!!
KValley - I lived in Athens, OH too (earned my BS at OU)
Chefbec - I'm also a Pampered Chef consultant!
Hi everyone!! My name is Michelle, but everyone has called me M. since high school. I'm 28 and originally from the suburbs of Cleveland. I've spent the last 10 years moving between Athens, OH (college); Kodiak, Alaska; San Diego, CA; St. Pete (area), FL; and I am moving to New London, CT next month! I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 6 years - he's an officer in the Coast Guard...that explains the moving.
I'm currently a Pampered Chef consultant & SAHM with 2 boys: ages 2.5 and (almost)1.
Once upon a time I wrote ad campaigns & marketing material. I'm starting work on my MS in Communication Theory at UConn in the fall.
"Sk8ingmom" comes from when I first started posting on BB's. I was pregnant with my first son & figure skated competitively until I was 5 months pg! Now it just refers to my love of skating (been doing it since I was 3) & my habit of rollerblading around the neighborhood with the kids in a jogging stroller!
I mostly lurk on this board since I have a hard time keeping up, but I love it!

Katie,
How weird! I live in Morgantown, WV. I just finished my MSW. I work at the Health Sciences Center. I am a program manager at the Office of Drug Abuse Intervention Studies. I am 1 of 3 people in my office who subscribes to CL.
I'm 32, married almost 8 years. My husband is a counselor at an inpatient substance abuse program for teens (and is not happy about it). Both of us cook. We also take dance lessons.
I am both appalled and amused at the Jesco White phenom. We really don't need more people to reinforce stereotypes about WV. I have to say, I do get a kick about how often WV turns up on the X-Files. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
