We all love CL, and I was curious about what types of food all of you love to eat most. For me, it's probably Indian food. I love the varied spices and sauces. YUM! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I love Asian cuisine -- particularly Thai food. Of course, I also love Italian food as well. Anything spicy!

I'm with Beth H. on the Thai food. I also love Mexican and Italian. Anything with peanut sauce is good.

My specific favorite foods are strawberries, pesto, and sesame noodles (not at the same time, of course!)

That's a tough one, since I really love EVERYTHING! But if I had to pick one, I guess it would have to be Greek. Love all that spinach, feta, kasseri, garlic, olives, etc. etc.!!

OPAAA!!

My favorite would have to be Mexican but also love Asian.

My all-time favorite home cookin' type meal is Beef Stroganoff served over egg noodles. My mom used to let it bubble in the crockpot all day. Yummy yum.

My favorite occasional treat is a seasoned porterhouse steak, thrown on the grill--rare to medium-rare, a fluffy baked potato topped with sour cream, and a fresh green salad with crumbled blue cheese. Mmmm,mmm,mmm...

Favorite summer meals include any kind of seafood (shrimp, littleneck clams, seared tuna, flounder, I could go on and on...), grilled or steamed silverqueen corn on the cob, and tomatoes right off of the vine--oh, and anything on the grill! Oh man!

My favorite luxury meal would be a very heavy whole Maine lobster, drawn butter, and lemon wedges...I proudly don a bib for those rare occasions!

All of the above with some vino, but of course...

oh geez, now my belly's talking to me...c'mon lunchtime!

I got way ahead of myself, huh? I also love all kinds of food. My favorites are probably Japanese, Indian, and Mexican...

Enough of me for now!

Middle Eastern food for me! Just can't get enough hummus, tabouleh, harira, babaganoush, dolma, etc...

I would have to say Italian and Thai -- they both cater well to heavy emphasis of fresh vegetables and herbs, I love the diversity of dishes, and the delicate seasonings are just heavenly-- yum, yum, yum http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I would have to put in my vote for Mediterranean cuisine -- the fresh vegetables, olives, fish, fresh herbs and vibrant flavors really appeal to my vision of the "perfect foods". Summer in particular gets me in the mood for fresh pasta dishes, grilled aubergines and salads swimming in olives and feta!

I would include Tuscan food in this category... and would be sure to state that no meal is complete without a nice bottle of wine! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My two favorite foods are ooey-gooey bad-for-me Pepperoni Pizza and premium Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, and my favorite candy is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I don't indulge in any of those much anymore (sniff....) but I'll make light pizza with turkey pepperoni and eat Healthy Choice Chocolate Mint Ice Cream for a quick fix. Reese's are once a year (Easter Bunny!)but I snitch a miniature now and then.

As for 'cuisine' my drug-of-choice is Mexican, but Asian food is quickly gaining in on the fajitas and Chipotle Chicken Enchiladas! I'm crazy about spicy peanut sauce on noodles, and we've got a Mongolian Grill in town that DH and I try to hit two or three times per month for healthy stirfry. (For all you Seattle-types, we're talking Chang's!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Mexican.

Love Chinese too, but what I like (house Lo Mein) has so much grease and sodium that I feel too guilty about getting it, cause I eat way too much at one sitting!

But I could not live without bread and butter. My most favorite food ever.

It's impossible for me to narrow down one particular genre of cuisine- I love food and trying new things. If the ingredients are fresh and care has been taken in the preparation, I will enjoy it.

What I love most is simplicity and freshness-the European tradition of creating a meal from what is in season and what was available at that day's market- chicken or salmon roasted or grilled to tender, juicy perfection, with fresh herbs; steamed vegetables; mesclun picked from my own garden, a bottle of wine chosen with care and anticipation; a hearty bean soup; freshly baked bread; new strawberries or ripe pears, my grandma's peach/apricot pie.

ohhhh, this leaves me longing for France and for my grandma.....

I can't really narrow this down to one type of cuisine - it changes depending on what I'm craving. But I always love Asian (particularly Chinese and Korean), Italian, and Mexican foods.

My absolute favorite dish, though, is easy - spicy squid (Korean). And the spicier, the better!

Eva, there is a wonderful Korean restaurant in Yakima (of all places)- it is a beautiful, classy place. I had never been in a Korean restaurant that wasn't a take-away in a strip mall- this was lovely. I had an enormous bowl of sticky rice with Korean dates, chestnuts, yams, ginseng root, with a ginger teriyaki sauce on the side. DH had similar, but with a spicy beef and tofu mixed with roe. Plum wine, egg rolls in the most delicate batter, little plates of kim chee. There were so many dishes I wanted to try- we must return.

There are few reasons to go to Yakima, but this is definitely one of them. What a wonderful discovery! If you ever have a reason to be on I-82, this is worth a stop.

My favorite foods/craving (not in any particular order):

Sushi
Thai
Chinese
4 lb. lobster from Mortons
Roasted Crab from Crustaceans/Thanh Long ( I could eat that every day!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I love all other food, but these I actually get cravings for!!

Julie,

Thanks for the info! I've never been to Yakima, but if I ever plan to, I'll make sure to let you know so you can give me more details about this place. Sounds fabulous! My favorite Korean place in Eugene isn't a take-out place in a strip mall or anything, but it's not exactly an elegant dining experience either. It's a joint close to campus, but the owners are super nice and the food is wonderful. DH doesn't like Korean food, though, so I usually wind up getting myself something to go and eating it at home alone on nights that he's made plans.

All this is making me really hungry. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Aside from the Indian food, one of my favorite dishes is Pad Thai. I loved the food in Italy, but I rarely cook true Italian at home (but pizzas and pastas are a weekly thing). I also love Middle Eastern food. I feel sorry for my friends who only stick to certain types of food and are afraid to try all the delicacies found around the world. How boring!

Both my husband and I love spicy foods. Therefore we love Indian food. Followed by Asian, Italian and Mexican.
Above all though I think we just think food should have clean tastes and be super fresh. And we can't get enough of a good dense, crusty bread.

I have several... Asian, Mexican & Italian. Since we don't eat meat, these cuisines lend themselves to delicious vegetarian dishes with LOTS of veggies, whole grains and/or beans (legumes).

Of course, the four basic food groups:
chocolate, wine, cheese and bread (not in that order.)

I love to try everything and anything and my all time favorite is Country French. We also love Thai, Mexican and a lot of infusion cooking.

foodiedelite, you just described my "food pyramid" to which I was strictly adhering during my recent stay in Paris. The cheese, bread, wine & chocolate was the best I have ever tasted.

At home, I love mexican food, salmon, & apples the best.

I don't think I could pick just one favorite...I love Thai, Indian, Mexican, Tex/Mex, Vietnamese, American comfort food (mac 'n cheese from scratch, etc.), Japanese (esp. sushi, but other stuff, too), Salvadoran, Cuban, Italian, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting right now!

Looking at everyone's lists, I'm thinking, gee, we're lucky to live during a time that people are actually interested in branching out and trying foods from other cultures! How bland would life be if we ignored regional/cultural specialties and stuck solely to what we know?

In honor of that sentiment, I think I'll finally check out that Persian place downtown next week! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

My two favourite cuisines are Italian(I grew up on it and have the butt to prove it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif --my Mom is an excellent cook!) and Chinese (I want to work my way through an entire menu in my lifetime--endless choices and all so good!)

I LOVE black jellybeans, black licorice, fennel and Sambuca--my favourite flavour. I am also addicted to Hershey's York Peppermint Bites--Yikes----I'm..."Getting the Sensation.." http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif

Foodiedelite: Darn...and I've been telling everyone the 4 main food groups were chocolate, nuts, caramel, and any combination of the 3. :-)

My favorite food is definitely any Greek food I've ever had!! YUMMM! (I'm finally in the countdown to our local Greek festival...about 2 more weeks!!!) I also love Mexican and Italian. I usually bring my lunch from home, but if I go out, I almost always go to one of our two "healthy food" restaurants. I'm fortunate to have the only two in my area within about 3 miles from my office.

I could not have said it better! I would have to rearrange the order though - chocolate, bread, cheese and wine. There, the perfect cuisine!

I guess I'd have to choose Indian, but I like so many varied things. When I go to an Indian restaurant, I just DROOL over all the choices, partly because I gravitate toward a vegetarian menu when I dine out.

At home, however, I don't cook a lot of Indian. Our cuisine here is very mixed - just whatever catches my eye! Probably leans toward Italian, if anything.

I don't have a favorite, but do enjoy Italian, Greek, Thai, and Chinese.

I also love salmon, and most fish and seafood (as long as I don't see eyes on my plate), and anything chocolate too. Actually, I love most everything, except for those brussel sprouts.

Lorilei- I couldn't of said it any better than you did about Mediterrean food. If I had to pick ONE type of that would be it. I can't pick just one however. I LOVE Indian food, Asian food and Italian. Oh yes Middle Eastern too. I too feel so sorry for people who won't try different foods. We had two Finns here for awhile and they turned their noses up at anything a little different- except Italian food. They called it all "foreign" food and not in a positive way. I kept my mouth shut but felt it was a rather sad attitude.
My dream is totravel the world-just to eat!! I would love to immerse myself in Mediterrean cooking through travel and classes. I was in Greece 20 years ago and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Boy I am really "chatty" today. Forgive my rambling.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Over the last few months, DH and I have considerably curbed our eating out, but when we do go out it's always ethnic. Our favorites are Indian, Thai, Japanese and Greek.

My name is Jason and I am a Thai addict. Could eat laab everyday (and tom yum, and panang, and green curry hot enough to break a sweat). I'm also getting pretty deep into the Vietnamese scene (pho, bun, lemongrass-chicken with a 15 syllable name).
Great thread Chefbec. YUM!

Everyone is so sophisticated compared to me! I love Italian, thai, mexican too, but I have to say that I really love classic homey comfort foods! Bread pudding is a killer dessert. What's better than chowder with biscuits? Warm chocolate cake, fudge sauce, and ice cream? Turkey and stuffing, Mom's strudel, apple dumplings......

Sigh. That's food that makes you feel loved.

I'm late to this one, but it got me thinking (and now I know where to mail my black jelly beans http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif )about what it is about any type of food that makes me love it.

I think I really like savory food that has a strong central item but a blend of flavors. That's why I really like ethnic cuisine. Indian (chicken tikka masala!), Mexican (wonderful mix of fresh vegetables and great spices), and oriental. Has anyone read Madhur Jaffrey's cookbooks that cover the orient? Wonderful!
