quick and tasty appetizer

I went to a party yesterday, and this was my favorite appetizer:

Put a room temperature block of cream cheese on a plate. Sprinkle generously with curry powder. Spoon mango chutney over. Serve with crackers.

This was also fantastic as the condiment on a hot dog.:o

The "put some spicy and/or sweet stuff on a block of cream cheese" appetizer has many variations and is always oddly popular. I've always done it with Pickapeppa sauce, and have heard of it being done with pepper jelly.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 block light cream cheese -- (8 oz.) softened
1/2 of a 9 oz. bottle Major Grey's mango chutney (maybe a little less)
1/4 cup coconut
2 small green onions -- sliced on the bias (1 to 2)
chopped salted peanuts

Spread cream cheese in a dish (I used a 7 inch square Corningware dish).

Pour chutney over the cream cheese.

Sprinkle with coconut and green onions.

Chill.

Before serving, sprinkle with peanuts.

Serve with crackers.
