I have started to cook quite a bit with Cooking Light and need some new appliances. Do you recommend that I buy a Duet Blender- Blender and cusinart in one or should I buy each separately?
What brands/models do you prefer?
Thank you.

Hi Igable!
I have not had a blender for about a year now (gave to daughter) after purchasing a Braun CombiMax650 - it does everything - personally speaking, absolutely no need for a blender - even has a very easy juicer attachment that just drops in.

I like having lots of different appliances as I use them for different things (if you can afford them, of course). I have a Kitchen Aid food processor, a Cuisinart blender, and also an immersion blender which I love to use right in the pot when I make soup. I like crushing ice and making drinks in the blender, and I love my food processor for everything else. Plus, if you're doing a couple things at once, you don't have to start cleaning! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
Oh, and welcome to the BB!

I have a combination blender/food processor and I love it. It's not a Cuisinart, it's a Kitchen Aid, but it's just what I need. The food processor is only a 3 cupper, but since it's only DH and I that seems fine to us! I don't ever use a processor to chop veggies, I prefer to do that by hand. I may break down and buy a Mandolin for that task eventually, but I don't like the processor for veggies. I think I use the blender attachment more, but it's nice having that processor attachment when I need it! It also takes up a lot less space, and in my teeny kitchen that's a big plus! It also cost us only $49 at Bed, Bath and Beyond! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I guess when you get down to it it all depends on quantity. When I first started to cook it was just the two of us and so I bought the smaller 7 cup Cusinart. I recieved a blender as a shower gift and to be honest with you have only used it about 3 times in the 13 years I've been married! I do have a Braun hand blender and it gets a lot of use. Anyway because I now have 2 kids and I entertain often I recently went out and bought the 11 cup Cusinart (cursing myself for not buying it from the beginning). So I really think if you plan on taking cooking seriously you're better off getting the large food processor and a separate hand or immersion blender.
