I'm never sure whether to put a restaurant review under great food or other stuff, but I decided to put it here.
Divine Desserts Cafe
Wow!
If you're in San Diego, make time to go to Divine Desserts for lunch. It's a lovely little oasis in a strip mall. The atmosphere in the cafe was very peaceful, and the mother/daughter team that own and operate it are so nice!
When we arrived, we were brought homemade rolls to munch right away. They were just right. We noticed that the soup of the day was green bean. We couldn't fathom what that would taste like, and we were brought a sample. It was a very light consomme type broth made of potato and (I think lemon). Floating within the broth were paper thin slices of green bean. We immediately ordered bowls and ate every drop.
We also had half caprese sandwiches: fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, avocado, spinach, pesto, and smoked salmon. Delightful!
We took home desserts and baked goods to last the rest of my stay: coconut custard tart; bread apple pudding with champagne sauce; strawberry, raspberry, and mango tart; chocolate chip cookies; apple muffin; and blueberry muffin. The tarts and the bread pudding were outstanding. The cookies were a little too soft for my taste, but that may have something to do with me carrying them around in my pocket at Comic Con. I liked the blueberry muffin better than the apple, but both were good.
1/2 soup and 1/2 sandwich are $6.95. Dessert slices are $4.50.
