DH and I are headed out to the Portland area of Oregon in a few weeks to spend some time with friends, and we would like to do a day trip here and there to wine country. So far on my list of wineries to visit are Ponzi, Adelsheim and Archery Summit. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

thanks!

Since you're going down to the Willamette Valley, I'd recommend Sokol Blosser & Domaine Serene.

Sokol Blosser has a nice tasting room and makes some very good, affordable wines.

Domaine Serene is gorgeous. They make some of the higher end Pinots. You'll need an appointment for a tour and tasting.

My brother's wedding and reception was at a winery/resort called "Edgefield" near Portland (Troutdale)..

It's very.... unique... apparently it used to be a retirement community, and has kept some of that... atmosphere...

Internet search resulted in the discovery that the whole complex is named McMenamins, and Edgefield Winery is incorporated w/in...

Nice place to spend several relaxing hours...

Didn't McMenamins buy up a lot of old buildings in Portland and convert them into pubs/restaurants?

Dunno. I'm not familiar w/ the area...my brother just moved there.

But it was a great place for a wedding reception... and would make an enjoyable, relaxing experience, I am confident.

Yes, they did. I think they have converted one or two into hotels too but most are pubs.

Yes they did, I do not know how many but there is quite a few. some of them are old Movie Theaters, they have replaced the seats with benchs with ling table in front of them so you can go get your beer & pizza and eat while watching a movie, usually older ones but a bunch of fun. The other parts of the building ia a restaurant, and a small pub area. They also converted an old school into several restaurants & pubs as well as a few rooms you can rent, kind of like a B&B. I have not seen that one yet, my DD just moved to Portland and took us to one the last time there. It really was fun.

OK about the Wineries, a great one is Duck Pond, very good. When you arrive in Portland you can ask anyone, they really are pretty much all around the City. Very easy to find and only about 20-25 mins away.

There are also some great micro brews for beer tasting as well.
Enjoy
Kim

Oooh thanks for the tip on Duck Pond - a close in winery would be a good choice on days we don't want to stray too far. I've been to Portland once for a short weekend and sampled some of their beers, so we're looking forward to doing more of that too. Lucky for us there is a huge beerfest the weekend we get in :) My favorite Oregon beer (so far) is Rogue :) Hoping to tour that brewery as well!

You're talking about my hometown, girl! I grew up along a country road outside Dundee, OR. Almost every afternoon for years, I rode my horse around the vineyards at Archery Summit and Sokol Blosser. Both are beautiful, and I've been back to try their wines since. Definately worth a visit. Duck Pond has a tasting room in downtown Dundee; I believe their bistro provides a nice lunch (haven't been there myself, yet, but I do like their wines.)

Yes, McMenamins does have a number of nice pubs in attractive older buildings around the valley.

Another micro-brew pub recommendation: Golden Valley Brew Pub in McMinnville (about a half hour's drive down Hwy 99 from Dundee, which is the heart of the Willamette wine country. Good food, good beer, good atmosphere. :) I'm jealous!

Don't know where it is located but my husband has discovered Whitman Vineyards wines that are from the Willamette Valley and really likes them.
