Coming from Texas, I love margaritas! My friend gave me this recipe and I made a funny face at first, but after tasting them.....I am hooked!!
1 can coors light
1 large can frozen limeade
1 can Sprite
1 cup tequila
Stir all ingredients together and serve over ice. Enjoy!!

When I drink beer that isn't micro brewed, I have to cut it with sprite or 7up. Bartenders always look at me like I'm strange..well that's another story.

I think I'll try it.
Cheers,

Karen

The restaurant chain Chili's actually has an amazing margarita called "el presidente" that they serve in its own shaker. Although I think the food at Chili's is just OK, this drink is out of this world - - one of the best margaritas I've ever had, and I've had a lot. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif If anyone is going to Vegas, the "Red square" restaurant at Mandalay Bay makes a great vodka margarita. Needless to say, they're strong. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I will definately try this, I LOVE margaritas! Another fav of mine is the Mexican Martini (taste a bit like a marg on rocks) from Trudy's in Austin. My friends and I have been trying to get the recipe to no avail...Anyone out there from Austin w this one?

Mmmmmm., Thanks Traci! We just finished a dinner of chicken fajitas and these margaritas. I was really bummed because I was all set to make the barbeque chicken pie but I couldn't find the twisty corn bread sticks at my grocery store. So plan B was to make chicken fajitas and when I saw your post I knew that these would hit the spot! They were great, and so easy too.
Thanks again.

OK, ok, I have to step in. Limeade and mixes might work, but the true original margarita has tequilla, cointreau and fresh lime juice http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Beer in your margartitas? I did this once, but only because the frozen margarita machine was so froze up you needed a spoon to drink your drink. The only thing I remember is that I regretted it the next day!

Margrita with beer now that is interesting... I might have to try it. I don't like the taste of tequlia (Bad experience)But I love Coors Light. I drink Coors Light with a lemon wedge. Yummy....

Beth H...I have tried that el presidente margarita from Chilis. I use to bartend there many moons ago, it's the tequlia they use it is a good brand not bottom shelf.

I'm a huge margarita fan! My husband has been making wonderful ones lately. We had always used the Barcardi mixers, but a few years back he started with the limeade (real lime juice sometimes), tequila, crushed ice and grand marnier in place of the contreau. I'm not sure of his proportions, but I know the grand marnier portion has increased!

Beth H... we stayed at the Mandalay Bay last September but did not try the margaritas at Red Square. Did you try the shaker margaritas at the Borders Restaurant? I have to say that they are indeed the BEST margaritas I have ever had. I would recommend trying them if you are in the area. And... this may sound silly to go with a margarita, but the desserts at that restaurant are fabulous as well! They were so beautiful that I actually took picures of them. Margaritas and Chocolate??? Why not????

K
PS... actually we did the margaritas with appetizers and then coffee with the dessert...

ps, for you tequila enthusiasts like me http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif, here is another drink:

Diet COke and Tequila with lots of lime juice! IT is my favorite. I get strange looks when I ask for it, but anyone who tries it agress it is great!

An interesting margarita tidbit...

I spent lots of time in Santa Fe for a previous job, and there is a restaurant there called Maria's which is basically THE place for margaritas. It's been around for 50 or so years or longer. They have a "Margarita Menu" with some 100 or so different margaritas (not fruity ones, but margaritas made with different tequilas, liqueurs). I think the most expensive is $40. Anyway, they make "real" margaritas as Kim stated above, but instead of using fresh lime juice, they use fresh lemon juice and it works! They are awesome and so smooth. They say that the reason why they use lemons instead of limes is because the lemons have a more consistent flavor throughout the year. If any of you are ever in Santa Fe, you must visit! Oh yeah, the food is awesome, too!

Emily

Grand Marnier is EXELLENT...but make sure you use GOOD tequilla with such a good liquor, and I wouldnt mix it like I would the Triple Sec or Cointreau, just put a shot on the top.

Luv2Cook...tried Taco Milagro? Authentic margaritas and AWESOME food (blows Papasitos away!)They also have Tequilla tastings on Wednesday nights.........wanna call in on Thursday??? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Margaritas for everyone in Birmingham.

Kim, I am from Texas but live in Phoenix now. It is impossible to get a marg here that is not made with sweet and sour mix!! Yuck!! So it's homemade or nothing here. The mango one sounds great. Not too sweet??

FYI, I travel to Mexico frequently and have learned that there they make margs with a product (to my knowledge not available in the states) called Controy. A bastardized version of Cointreau I guess and much less expensive. So the next time you cross the border I suggest buying a bottle -- Betsy

If there's one thing that can draw me out of the lurker's corner it's a good margarita.

Sal, you mentioned my favorite. I spent an hour at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Cafe last spring, and his mango margaritas are fantastic. I, too, went back the next day.

Baby A's in Austin is good, but mostly for industrial-strength margaritas. For the ultimate margarita experience in Austin go downtown to a bar on Town Lake called the Cedar Door and order a Mexican Martini. Then the next day go out to the Iguana Grill and get a Green Iguana (frozen with Midori). Trudy's, Chuy's, and El Arroyo make a good one as well.

But for great frozen margaritas at home, dust off the old ice cream freezer and try this:

1 large can frozen limade
1 small can frozen lemonade
4 large canfuls of water
1 cup tequila
1 cup triple sec

Dump it in the ice cream freezer, smack your lips for 25 minutes, then enjoy!

I never thought a margarita recipe would get such a response. I love margaritas and am going to try some of these. Personally, I love cointreau in mine as well.

ama47369- I grew up in Houston but have spent a lot of time in Austin. My mom lives in Kerrville and my brother went to UT. We always started our weekend trips at Baby Acapulco's. Those margaritas are pretty good. I think it is the atmosphere more than anything else!! I live in New York City now and have found two GREAT tequila bars. One place served the tequila shot followed with a bloody mary spicy tomato drink.....very good. If anyone is in the city and wants to meet and try these places out, let me know.

Well cheers everyone....and be careful with the hangovers!!!

O.k. you guys are driving me crazy with the margarita talk! I am from Texas and have been in Australia for 4 months(moved here temporarily) I miss Texmex and margaritas! Traci and Thisnthat--I think the week my husband and I get back to TX we will have to go to Chuy's, Trudy's and Baby A's! Funny that I looked at this thread for the first time after one too many margaritas last night at a place here called La Paz . . .they have wonderful mango-flavored ones. Anyway, I was just wondering, Emilycat, how did the margaritas turn out with Grand Marnier? Also, where do you like to go for margaritas in Atlanta? I remember drinking so many I was sick one time in college at this place in Buckhead called El Toro--gross but fun!

Actually, I haven't made any yet...I was just curious, because I have Triple Sec, and wanted to avoid having to buy a lot more alcohol (mmm...my liquor cabinet isn't exactly bare...)
Anyway, I'm not usually much of a margarita drinker, because I hate Mexican and Southwestern food (I know, I know http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ), and those are usually the best kinds of places to get them.
I make daquiris frequently enough at home the traditional way, using simple syrup, lime juice and rum...I find any excuse I can to use my shaker set! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

the best margaritas I've had were at a restaurant called La Margaritta - what else http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif in San Antonio, Texas. We were there for a week and went there for dinner at least twice. I'd go back to San Antonio, just for that restaurant, although I'd go earlier in the year than June (hubby had a conference to go to then). I absolutely loved the place.

Here's one that takes the guess work out of measuring.

Margarita's for a Crowd

1 container of frozen limeade, thawed.
Using the same container, measure;
1 container of triple sec
1 container of tequila
3 containers of water

Mix in a large pitcher, serve over ice. These are very addicting.

My recipe is exactly the same as yours...beer, tequila, & limeade, no sprite.

Ever try making one with limeade, tequila, and an egg? Makes it really frothy (what the beer does in the other recipe) and slightly creamy.

Chels, as for the tequila I don't know. But I know you will agree with me that the best margaritas would have to be at Joe T's in Fort Worth and the "mambo taxi" at Mi Cocina in Dallas and Fort Worth.
