View Full Version : Peppadews???
There was a post on the boards a few weeks back about peppadews, and I can't find it with the messed up search function! I found peppadews today at WHole Foods and wanted to try them out tonight...I didn't write down the recipe or the original poster's name. Does anyone remember that thread to know what was in them???
this new format will take some getting used to!!! I posted the one on trying peppadews... I had bought them at whole foods as well... I didn't really have a recipe per se... I mixed together a small log of goat cheese, some piave (or you could use any sort of hard italian cheese), a bit of garlic, lemon juice, and salt and pepper... threw them in the oven only for a few minutes (they seemed to heat pretty fast and the skin almost began to blister) to heat through... mmm.. I think that was all I threw in there! I hate when I don't write things down.... anyway, I hope you really enjoy them, I though they had such an interesting taste, they were a great find!!!!
YAY! Thank you so much! I knew it was some type of cheese but just couldn't remember. I'm heading to the kitchen now! They smell great so I'm really excited to try them! :D
These were really good! My goat cheese was bad, so I used cream cheese instead, and parmesan instead of piave. I could see a million different variations as possibilities. They baked for about 10 minutes. The contrast of the creamy filling with the piquant bite of the peppers was great! This was easy, yummy, and unique, and we will definitely make these again!
I'm so glad that you happened to be on the boards yesterday, Lys, that was an incredible coincidence!

I didn't know what a Peppadew was so I went to their website.
Read this:
PADEW™ PIQUANTÉ PEPPER
The name PEPPADEW™ is a registered trademark which cannot be used as a descriptor (for example "PEPPADEWS" is incorrect and "PEPPADEW SOUP" is also incorrect) as this is a violation of our intellectual property rights and thus damaging to our brand.
Those delightful and delicious peppers that so tantalise all our tastebuds are called Piquanté Peppers (pronounced pee-can-the) and they, whether whole or as a sauce, are only available under the PEPPADEW™ brand. This is because PEPPADEW INTERNATIONAL has international growing rights for Piquanté Peppers and nobody else can grow them.
We are striving to drive media and consumer awareness of the fact that only PEPPADEW INTERNATIONAL grows and bottles Piquanté Peppers under the PEPPADEW™ brand.
PEPPADEW™ Piquanté Peppers are the first new fruit discovery since the Kiwi Fruit (and that was 26 years ago!) They're delicious, they're unique and they were discovered right here in South Africa! Only PEPPADEW™ has real Piquanté Peppers, so don't settle for anything less!”
Using PEPPADEW™ PIQUANTÉ PEPPER In Recipes
1. The generic name Piquanté Pepper must be used in the recipe title (as below)
2. The trademark with the specific product from the range must be used when indicating indicating ingredients (e.g. 150 g Whole Hot Peppadew™ Piquanté Peppers).
3. In the method, the generic name Piquanté Pepper must again be used. See recipe example below.
Piquanté Pepper Tortilla Soup
Ingredients
1 kg large tomatoes, chopped
4 tblsp vegetable oil
1,5 litre chicken stock or canned chicken broth
1 tblsp ground cumin
150g Whole Hot Peppadew™ Piquanté Peppers
2 tblsp chilli powder
1 cup Corn Tortilla, cut in strips
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tbslp chopped garlic
1 tblsp chopped coriander
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 avocado roughly chopped
Method:
1. Sauté onions in a large saucepan in oil until transparent.
2. Add tomatoes and piquanté peppers and cook, stirring until softened.
3. Cool and then puree in blender or food processor 4. Return to pan and add the rest of the ingredients, except tortilla strips and cheese
5. Simmer, stirring occasionally for about 30 minutes 6. Add tortilla strips and heat about ten minutes.
7. Serve with additional tortilla chips, cheese and avocado
8. Season with mild or hot Peppadew™ splash on sauce.
Rules
1. “Peppadews” (sic) can never be used to generically describe the product. There is no such dish as a peppadew soup. The soup would be called by its generic name which is Piquanté Pepper Soup and this soup is made with PEPPADEW™ whole Piquanté Peppers.
2. PEPPADEW™ is always used as a trademark and then in conjunction with the specific product (e.g. PEPPADEW™ whole Piquanté Peppers) except when referring to the name of the company (e.g. PEPPADEW INTERNATIONAL has launched a new range of products).
3. What is fantastic is that food editors can include Piquanté Peppers as a generic and truly South African product in any recipe to add spice interest and flavour – please contact us should you like to have product on hand!
