I just tried doing a search for Bobby Flay recipes (was looked for the Chinese Chicken Salad one) and only 1 thread comes up which was posted on the "new" board".

I got my Grilling for Life just now so I was able to copy for a friend, but what is up with searching?

Yeah, it's pretty much messed up. I've found the only way I can locate a specific recipe is if I know who posted it (then I just pull-up all the htreads that person has posted on). Otherwise I get only old threads from the archives.

I think the search is messed up. I'm not having much luck either and I think some others have posted about having problems. Must be a glitch in the upgrade.

I emailed Jennifer about this earlier today and here is the response I got:

"The email function is now working, so I'm tackling search next. Right now, I have the search "rebuilding." It'll take all day, so I'll check to see if that works tomorrow. Also, I noticed, that "search all open forums" doesn't include the Popular Threads Archive since it's closed to posting, so that's part the problem. I don't think I can fix that, you'll just have to click on "Popular Threads Archive" as well.
There's the update.
Jennifer"

Jennifer is working hard and hopefully everything will be back to normal soon.

Thanks for the update! I hope that includes incorporating the Search function at the top of the page...the one that searches the Kitchen Asst on the homepage...it's not working either.

Hey everyone!
If you haven't checked it out lately, I think the search function is working now! I tried it again a few minutes ago and I was able to find an older recipe by just searching for a few words rather than finding out who posted it.

Yea! :D

I'm just glad I don't have Jennifer's job right now!

How are all of you typing in your searches. I have tried to search for recipes I know I saw in the last few months, and I either get recipes from yesterday or like 2 years ago. I typed in chicken (which I know is in a title at least once a week) and I got ones from yesterday, and the next back was May 05. I think it may still have some bugs in there (or I have some in here). Either way, if you have figured it out, any help would be great

Search is starting to work correctly again - although I needed to click on search, then click on advanced search. When that screen comes up make sure you click on the forum you want to search (like great food).

I was kind of hoping that with the big upgrade that the search funtion would be upgraded too. It would be nice to be able to narrow down your search. It looks like it may be the same as before.

I was trying to find the thread on blueberry-chipotle chutney and only could find it after I manaully went through the Good Food threads.

I'm having a rough time too. I have been trying to find an orange bread recipe posted by Laura B earlier this year and..... grrrr

I had been wanting to try it but was intimidated by the metric system. I recently found a really good conversion website and want to give it a whirl.

I'm getting the same results. I typed in linguine basil brie and saw a thread from yesterday and then the next was also in September 03. It's possible there aren't that many threads with those three words in them, but I know I personally started a thread with those three words, and that doesn't appear in the search results at all.

Maybe they are re-building the search database a little bit at a time, and still need to get some of 2003, 2004 and 2005 entered?

Is this it???? I think it might be because it is metric. Let me know if you need a hand converting.

"On Saturdays, I am taking an essentials of pastry class at the French Culinary Institute in NYC, and last Saturday we made brioche and this fabulous Orange-Cinnamon Swirl Bread. I would be happy to post the brioche if anyone would like it (it was lovely), but this bread was OUT OF THIS WORLD! We had friends over who said it was the best thing they've ever put in their mouths. I also made some banana bread yesterday in the bread machine. It was the first time I had ever even tasted banana bread, much less made it, and I thought it was yummy. It is from Beth Hensperger, and I can post that, too, if anyone would like it.

Sorry about the metric. Our textbook is all metric. You'll need a scale or you'll need to convert the recipe.

Orange-Cinnamon Swirl Bread

French Culinary Institute
Basic Techniques of French Pastry
Yield: Two 9 x 5 x 2-1/2 inch loaves

30 grams fresh yeast -- use 1/2 amount for dry or instant yeast
250 milliliters warm water
200 milliliters orange juice
1 large egg
60 grams butter
100 grams granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
zest of one orange
900 grams bread flour
40 grams dried milk (chef said you can omit this but it adds to the richness of the bread)
cinnamon sugar -- for filling

Dissolve the yeast in the warm water.

Add the orange juice and egg to the dissolved yeast.

Add the combined liquids to the remaining ingredeints, with the exception of the cinnamon sugar.

Knead the dough until smooth and satiny.

Shape the dough into a ball, cover, and allow it to rise in a bowl or on a sheet pan.

Butter two 9 x 5 x 2-1/2 inch loaf pans and set aside.

After 1 hour, turn the dough, cover it, and let it rise until doubled.

DIvide the dough in half.

Roll each half into a rectangle approximately 7 inches x 12 inches and even in thickness.

Brush the dough with water, egg wash, or melted butter and sprinle lightly and evenly with cinnamon sugar. Too much sugar will melt and run out.

Roll up the dough and place it seam-side down in the prepared pans, making sure the seam is facing down.

Proof the loaves.

Brush the tops of the proofed loaves gently with egg wash.

Bake the loaves at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes, until dark brown.

Remove the loaves from the pans and cool completely on a rack.

Special Instructions: Using warm or at least room temperature ingredients will speed up the rising time. When mixing by hand, make a well in the dry ingredients in a bowl or on the bench and add the wet ingredients to the center of the well. When mixing in a machine, add the liquid to the dry ingredients as they are turning. The amount of liquid required may vary depending on the flour and the humidity level. This is a fairly stiff dough, but not so stiff that it is impossible to work. The punching or turning of the dough helps the yeast ferment by moving it around and giving it new starches to eat. The turning is also important if the kneading was done by hand since it helps develop gluten. The dough is shaped into a rectangle so that the loaf will rise and bake evenly. Brush only enough liquid on the dough to dampen the surface and allow the sugar to stick. Other ingredients such as chopped nuts or dried fruit may be added with the cinnamon sugar. Do not add too many additional ingredients, or the inside of the loaf will not rise and bake properly. This bread gets very dark during baking. If a lighter colored loaf is desired, either place foil over the top once it has begun to brown or turn the temperature down 50 degrees when browning begins. The egg wash gives a nice shine to the top. Be careful when unmolding the loaves since some of the sugar will have melted and will still be liquid and hot. This dough may also be rolled and sliced to make orange-cinnamon rolls. The bread is best served the day it is baked, but not hot from the oven. The bread may be frozen after cooling for longer storage.

Evaluating the Finished Product: The loaf should rise evenly. The top should be dark brown. The seam should be in the bottom of the loaf and not open. The crumb is fine with few or no large air pockets inside. The cinnamon sugar should be enough to flavor but not so much as to prevent good rise. The cinnamon sugar spiral should be consistent and even. There should only be a slightly yeasty smell. The dough should not be gooey inside. There should be no sour aroma or taste."

I'm going to try to convert via the website. If not, I may take you up on your kind offer. Thanks for making my day!

Search still isn't working for me, and I can't get my signature to appear without code appearing around my blog's url. I tried to PM Jennifer (only way I know how to contact her), but her box is full.... argh. :(

You are welcome! One thing I would really like the serach to do is be able to put in "orange+bread" and you get the threads that just have those two words. I think at the moment you get evey thread that has the words orange and bread, and using the + or and sign doesn't make a difference. Also it would be good to be able to search within a particular range. I know you can currently do 3 months, 6 months, etc. but I am thinking more specific - maybe by date like Gail's Recipe Swap on BA. Another thought was that it would be great to search by combination - for example Laura B & orange bread. JUst some wishful thinking :)
