What do you use to make sure your cookies are uniform in size? I've always just either picked up a ball and rolled, or used a spoon to scoop the batter up.
I'm looking for other suggestions. Thanks!

I use scoops that I purchased just for that purpose. Pampered Chef sells them, as do most kitchenware stores. I bought some at the business Costco we have here, which sells all kinds of interesting restaurant and catering supplies--I love that place! Pretty much the only thing I use mine for are cookies, but it's nice because they do give you a very uniform size. Mine have springloaded handles for easy dropping.

Hi Jennifer!
I love the OXO Good Grips cookie scoops - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000CDVD2/qid=1123011209/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl60/102-6356491-1230503?v=glance&s=home-garden&n=507846
I have the large one now and the medium one is on order.

I treated myself to cookie scoops last Christmas baking season and loved them so much that I bought them as part of my friend's Christmas gift.
I like the OXO very much as the action is very smooth -- and as a lefthanded person, I really appreciate an appliance/gadget that works equally well in each hand.
I bought the small and the large. The larger size is WONDERFUL for filling muffin and cupcake tins.
If you really have specialized needs, restaurant suppliers have lots of sizes as they need for portioning in a restaurant but I think that's overkill. I also found the "action" in the OXO to be smoother than the professional models I tried.

OXO scoops are great, I have a small and a medium. I like to make small cookies if I'm making multi desserts. Otherwide medium.

I use the Pampered Chef scoops. I think that I have the small and medium (or do I have medium and large?) sizes. They work great!

Well, I bought one of the mentioned cookie scoops (didn't have Oxo at the store I was at, but some other brand). I love it! It's nice to have everything so uniform in size, I get a closer yield to the amount the recipe lists, and it's easier.

I couldn't live without my cookie scoops - I use the OXO brand - easy on the hands.

Hi, Jennifer!
Glad you found what you needed. I have three sizes, and I use the large for regular size muffins, the medium for mini muffins, and the small for...not much. (sadly). It sort of works like a melon baller in a pinch...but it's the one I use the least. Although, now that I think of it, it would be great for small cookies! I use the med. one for most cookies.
I just used the medium one today for mini lemon poppyseed muffins. Mmmmmmm..... :)

I have all three scoops from Pampered Chef. I use them all the time. It's great for uniform sizes and shapes. I even use the large scoop for dividing cake batter in pans (one scoop for this one, one scoop for the other, etc.).

I use scoops for everthing, meatballs, cookies, muffins. I even prefer to weigh portions of bread dough for loaves or rolls and layer cake batter. I guess I really just like the uniformity of it. The Pampered Chef ones are what I use, although I had to replace one with an OXO and like the rubber grip.

I've been wanting scoops for a LONG time! I guess I just need to buy them.
I'm wondering if the small size would work for making candy - like truffles, or the centers for dipping, etc.??

They sell a huge number of sizes at restaurant supply stores because they are actually being used for food portions from teeny up to one cup or more as I recall.
The scoops are wonderful for ANYTHING requiring portions. I wound up with the OXO small and medium and I use the smaller for cookies and the larger one for muffins -- it makes it so much easier and neater.
I am lefthanded so the restaurant scoops didn't work for me as they needed to be used in the right hand for some reason - like most scissors but the OXO work for any handedness.
I am so NOT a kitchen gadget person but these scoops are really wonderful even if you are only an occasional baker like myself because, like a really good kitchen knife or mixer, when you use it for the first time, you smack yourself and so WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO SPEND $20. :D - that's for BOTH OXO scoops at BB&B with one of the coupons of which I have a lifetime supply :D

I also have the Pampered Chef medium scoop. It's probably one of my most used kitchen gadgets! I use it for cookies, meatballs, muffins...lot's of things! I love how it makes a nice uniform size and it's easier to ration gooey batter into cups equally.
