I did the stupidest thing...somehow, someway, I lost/misplaced/chucked the instruction booklet to my new electric meat grinder. I have all these intricate looking pieces and no instructions. I know most of you have Kitchen Aids that have an attachment, but surely someone has an electric meat grinder!

I think I can put it together, but there's one perplexing thing...All three grinding plates, the fine, medium and coarse, are covered in icky yellow grease. Even the cutting blade inside (4 prong doohickey that looks like a small windmill) is covered. Now, I know that I shouldn't be pushing my meat through that grease, right? But is it there to help the mechanism turn or is it there to prevent rust? I want to try this thing tonight since I bought pork loin and ground turkey breast, and I'm running out of time for this COMPANY'S COMING situation! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif

Can someone please advise about the grease? And here's a dumb question, but I cut this meat in as small chunks as possible, right? I don't want to fry this new machine (brand Villaware) by washing off this grease on the blades, but I also don't want my meat touching it...do I? Help! I'm stressing!!

Jewel, I know nothing about meat grinders but can you find a web-site for your brand? If so, maybe they have a 1-800 number you can call.

Sorry I can't help you with this Jewel, I just wanted to wish you all the best on Monday (in case we can't post tomorrow!)! Please let us know how you are doing. I'll be thinking about you and know everything will be fine. Have fun this weekend cooking and enjoying your mobility http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif !! Take good care of yourself when you get back home from the hospital (BTW, when will that be?) and remember, your vacation will be just around the corner!

(Gosh, I hope these graphics aren't the cause of the BB problems? As you can see, that thought didn't stop me though! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif )

Thanks to the both of you for your good wishes! And...I got the little electric bugger to work! Had the cutting blade in backwards the first time (blush) but I did it. Grease be darned, I just figured it was there to keep the pieces from rusting. So far, I've ground 2 lbs of pork loin! Now I'm going to the recipe section and find out how to work with my Penzey's sausage spice and have at it!!

I'll be posting on this board as soon as I can after surgery...2 hours on the table and I'll lose another 3 or 4 lbs. Not a bad deal, huh?? thanks again! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
